Description

At 23 years of age, Alexander has already broken a world record and is working at the top hospital in the planet. By all accounts and purposes, he’s living the dream- except for the fact he was born with the lowest affinity to fire mana in history in a world populated by Fire Elementalists. Raised as a human with no magic, he pursues the path of medicine, but when the legendary 9-colored flame chooses him, an outsider, as one of its inheritors, he is thrust into the machinations of fate.

Pulled into the currents of war, Alexander must decide if he is to stand on the sidelines or do the unthinkable and become a warrior. Whatever his decision may be, he must get stronger… or at the very least learn how to use fire.

The story is set in a universe where might is right, ruled absolute by clans of the most powerful magicians. Alexander, who is ridiculed for holding the record for the lowest recorded fire affinity on his planet of Fire Elementalists, works as a physician's assistant in a prestigious hospital. But his life is turned upside down when - as one of very few non-nobles - he is selected by the 9-Colored Flame, which expands his magical abilities and admits him into the powerful and warlike Agni clan. But can his peaceful nature be reconciled with the clan's ideals? Alexander must make some choices and finds new friends. I don't know yet (having read to chapter 13) but together they might be able to change the world.
It took me a while to figure out what the story was about, but now it promises to be a good tale of the main character's development that may have an impact on the whole society. The characters are well described so you get an idea of what motivates them. There is magic based on affinity to elements and colors which can be hard to figure out. The most powerful magicians are so strong that it seems overdone and I can't really relate to it (but that probably says more about the reviewer than the story).
All in all it is a good story with interesting characters that I would recommend. There seems to be a plan and I look forward to seeing where the author takes the story. Oh, and if you like stories with penguins you won't be disappointed.
