That Time I Was Mistaken For An Imperial Government Official

Description
The world constantly changes, and so too its people.
A typical fantasy world where Kingdoms, Princes and Princess', Heroes and Demon Lords, Magic and the Divine are mixed in with elements of the early 20th century. The seat upon which magic sits upon is threatened by the dawn of the industrial revolution. Machine guns face off against self-strengthening warriors, dragons and griffons challenged by biplanes and massive airships, the arcane infused with steel.
There are those against, while those embracing it. There is only one clear winner, and those are the ones who embraced the new era.
Follow Ries, a feline Beastmen, a Katzen, who fled from her tribe to prove herself worthy and suddenly becoming an important Imperial official out of the blue. With no experience, no connections, and certainly not very much willingness out of fear of being executed for impersonation. But at least the pay is good, right?
Becoming the first Beastmen to mingle with the upper echelons of Imperial society, losing her soul over paperwork, becoming a mouthpiece for the empire, and wore suits that cost more than the average family's. Ries never expected all of this to happen. Though now that it did, maybe she could use her position for change. Genuine change. It's not like politics is hard, right?
WHAT TO EXPECT:
-A fantasy world mixed with elements of the early 20th century.
-IMPERIALISM!!!
-Empire building-ish. MC is part of an existing government structure.

Style.
The storyteller's style is very good, I can't see the slightest flaw here.
What I thought first about this was the fact that I'm pretty sure that the author seems to be very fond of reading Japanese LNs, specifically some specific LNs that I'm very familiar with. The world was written so well, and I felt such a great vibe, it was clear to me that the author didn't seem to be a novice. The people are very much alive with their own interests, making the conflicts very plausible and interesting to follow. Every character other than the MC blends into the world-building wonderfully.
Gremmar.
The writing style uses 3rd POV with lots of details that are very well polished. It's so comfortable to read, it's even on par with Japanese LN writers and their official editors.
I'm not over-praising it or anything, but the writing is indeed very good for its kind.
Story
As of the time of this review, chapter 9.
The story starts with a small misunderstanding, which to me feels a little forced and I think there are better ways in the first two chapters, but of course it's still pretty good. I didn't mind or complain about it because in the later chapters the world-building felt amazing as if it was splashed with natural mountain river water when you realize that you yourself are just an office worker who keeps breathing in carbon pollution every day-it was very refreshing for me, because it was like a vacation after a long wait.
There are some comedic elements, but so far it doesn't seem to have reached its peak, as the comedic nature doesn't seem to be the main genre.
Also, this seems to be an isekai fantasy world with side characters transported to this world-not the main characters.
Meanwhile the main character seems to be on the opposite side of the defenders of the truth, rath - NelseumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It took me quite a while to write this review, it was not an easy task for me and it is why i will try to keep it simple.
To begin with, I feel in love with the setting our autor chose. I am an History graduate, and the whole story make so much sense to me, even if some could say the world building seem "simplistic" (A not-British Empire, French Demons, Autocrat Russian) it is so much more. Reference to historic event, administration systems, and the whole thing blended perfectly in "classic" fantasy. The way the empire works seems at first simple enough, like in most "villainess" or "Otome" story a powerfull empire, nobles and all the classical setting and the story is playing with those tropes.
Which is why when we see a group of Isekai hero, a vileness or maybe at some point a returnee we are not lost, the story still make sense and use those cleaverly to build a much more complex and fun world.
I would like to talk about characters and the way the story flows in this second part.
I ll keep thing simple, I love the MC, she's everything she should be in my view. Starting as an opportunistic outcast we can see her growth as a politician, and I think the way she struggles with everything that has been built in the past is so interesting.
Especially once she become Prime Minister, seeing her and her political views blocked off by her peers forcing her to be more brutal and then unable to work with more likeminded people is so interesting and keep us engaged.
The other characters are not as detailed as the MC, some may see this as a flaw which i could understand, imo it's not that problematic as we're following a politician, and her allies and ennemies are bound to disapear at any point, not knowing them also makes every decision they take much more surprising.
As for the flow of the story it self; I think the pathing of the story is very good, i love long chapters and every one of them feel relevant and important, even when we are swaping point of view.
To conclude I - Parkor94303Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I just finished binging this story, and really enjoyed it! It got me interested with the premise of inexperienced main character having to fake and learn her way through imperial politics, then truly sucked me in as it shifted into a age of imperialism political and war drama.
Style is good, it maintains a good pace moving between arcs at a good clip as it build up to the big event. A few character feel out of place in the otherwise relatively grounded world, but nothing too bad.
Story is where this shines. It presents this creaking and groaning imperial apparatus beset by problems within and without to which there are no good solutions and asks the main character to navigate it. Her path through and the numerous setbacks and missteps are what kept me gripped, and they are really well done, with the side characters helping zoom back in from the big picture the main character is dealing with.
Grammar: Its good, no complaints here.
Character: This is the one place where the story suffers. The characterization of the main character starts strong with a few interesting hooks but as the story becomes larger in scope and zooms out, with more time being given to side characters, this is somewhat lost. Some of this feels inevitable given the shift in the story but it still feels like a shame. To be clear I still really like the characters, and the main character's descent into brutal pragmatism is excellent, but focus definitely shifts.
Overall, I really enjoy and recommend this story wholeheartedly.
(I know Stolypin isn't a great 1-1 of the main character but both were reformers within an autocratic empire and I thought it was a funny comparison. Fingers crossed there is no left-CDLWP assassin). - bible accurate catgirlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the greatest novel ever, what do you get if you make a catgirl a high ranking offical in a ww1 era tech.
Genius and as a autistic british person i like imperialism and political bureaucracy.
So read this if you like a catgirl being BRITISH.
Also showing how a catgirl who hates the empire slowly becomes a impierist.
