Synopsis:

A brave hero and a Saint of the Immortal Flames join forces to face the most powerful being in the universe, the Celestial Emperor. However, all they manage to do is separate a piece of his divine artifact, the book Tales of the Creation of Heavens and Earth.

Unexpectedly, Tristan, a kid who has been locked up in a dungeon for two years by his stepmother, ends up receiving a fragment of this book.

He realizes that this alone is not enough to change his situation. Nevertheless, it rekindles the flame in his heart and motivates him to stay alive to seek revenge and find out what happened to his mother.

And perhaps, thus began his ascension in this hellish world.

I’m really enjoying the story so far, I waited until I read all of the current released chapters before giving my opinion.
Tristan has had an incredibly tough life and yet, he’s pragmatic and thoughtful. Decisive and sensible, it’s so interesting reading a character who is young and yet has sense.
I’m not sure how the magic system works just yet, does everyone have access to the system or is everyone a cultivator. I’m not sure, but I really like how well Tristan can defend himself as well as fight. Characters should be self sufficient and reliant.
I’m not sure how the sects play into this story but I’m happy to stay for the journey and figure it out along the way. There’s something about a budding MC who has the world set before them and all they have to do is keep moving forward.
The fight scenes were good, the pace and rhythm solid. The sequences were good and easy to imagine, I think we have the potential of a really good story and I’m enjoying watching it grow in front of me.
It reminds me ever so slightly of World Seed and if you’ve read that, you’ll know how good this story can become!

All right, for starters, this is a great story. If you’ve stumbled upon this and are trying to decide whether to read it or not, you should go ahead and give it a try. The first five chapters are a bit rough, but it gets better. After chapter eight, the story starts gaining momentum, and it becomes harder to put down.
Story:
Honestly, I'm a reader with average taste, and for me, the most interesting aspect of a book is the story itself. Characters, world-building, and the magic system are less important to me. As long as the story is engaging, I won't complain too much.
The story follows the main character, Tristan, who was a noble tortured and then imprisoned by his stepmother. He was a genius cultivator until his cultivation got blocked. This trope is familiar to me—a talented genius who falls into disgrace—and usually, these kinds of stories lead to sweet, sweet revenge later.
This story is still in its early phase, but it’s engaging enough to keep me reading.
Characters:
I think Tristan is cool. He’s smart and full of determination, and while his emotions burn bright inside him, he can still stay composed. There’s a moment where the MC almost dies, and instead of challenging his opponent (his stepmother), he gives her the satisfaction she wants. To me, that’s different from other cultivation stories, and it’s kind of refreshing.
Since the story is still in its early phase, it’s focused mainly on Tristan, but there’s also some good characterization of other characters. It’s kind of a spoiler, but I really pity that old man.
So, even if the characters aren’t too deep, I think the author knows how to make them more sympathetic, and I’m one of those readers who don’t demand too much character development.
Grammar:
It’s all right and readable. Good enough for a free web series.
Style:
There’s one aspect of this book that kind of bothers me, and that’s the dialogues. Not how the dialogues are written, but how they’re formatted.

My Biggest Compliment
In this story, one of the most striking elements is how nothing is handed to the protagonist, Tristan, despite his discovery of a divine artifact. While many stories featuring artifacts often lead to immediate power and overwhelming abilities, Tristan's journey remains refreshingly grounded. He doesn't simply unlock immense strength at the flip of a switch. Instead, he must painstakingly work, research, and struggle to unlock even a fraction of the potential his artifact holds. His intelligence and determination become his true assets, as he deciphers ancient knowledge and experiments with different techniques, despite being young and in dire circumstances. This approach creates a sense of realism in a fantastical world and highlights the theme that true power is earned, not given. The balance of hope and struggle in Tristan's journey deepens the narrative, making his eventual progress feel all the more rewarding for both the character and the reader.
Criticism
While the story does an excellent job of making Tristan earn his power, there are moments where the pacing feels uneven. The time Tristan spends researching and deciphering the artifact, while necessary to show his struggle, occasionally slows the story's momentum. Some scenes delve deeply into philosophical or mystical explanations that, while intriguing, can feel dense and hard to follow at times, detracting from the immediate tension of his dire situation. Additionally, there could be more exploration of Tristan's emotional state—his fear, desperation, and hope—beyond his intellectual determination. This would add further depth to his character and heighten the reader’s emotional investment in his journey. However, these are minor criticisms in an otherwise compelling and well-written story.

The story so far is pretty captivating, especially with how it mixes this mysterious fantasy vibe with a really personal journey for Tristan.
The author does a great job of pulling you into Tristan's world, where he's stuck in this grimy dungeon and trying to figure out a way to solve his pretty unique problem.
It's a bit refreshing to see a main character who's cautious and thinks things through instead of just diving headfirst into danger.
Tristan's journey with the Darkness element feels pretty well thought out. It seems that darkness and shadows would be his main thing, and if you like characters like that, then this is a great catch. The execution of this trope up until now has been great, but we'll see what the future holds.
The pacing of the chapters is solid, with a good balance between Tristan’s inner thoughts and his actions. The action sequence are greatly detailed as well. Overall, the story has a nice blend of world-building, character development, and suspense, making it an enjoyable read.
Also, [A brave hero and a Saint of the Immortal Flames...] the brave hero is using "Shadows" and the "Saint" is from the Immortal Flames. Idk man, I might've seen a similar setup somewhere else as well.

Very good start to a new story.
In the beginning, the main character, Tristan, is starving in a dark cell, lamenting his predicament. The author takes their time to provide you with the circumstance of how he got there, and the problems he’s currently facing. Food, water, ect. All pretty much within the first chapter.
Story: The story so far is quite interesting. Like I mentioned, the author efficiently goes over the basic things you need to know. How he got where he is, and the reason he got where he is, all while maintaining the mystery and keeping you wanting to read and know more. You then find out the cause of his core issue, and follow him as he tediously tries to solve the problem himself. Something the plethora of healers before couldn’t do. I also would like to note that the item he receives isn’t just some get out of jail free card. It’s something he really needs to utilize creatively to achieve his goal. (I like that alot.)
Style: The author’s style is really smooth. The whole beginning is basically introspective thoughts and actions. But it’s done in a way that is easily readable. I never found myself bored.
Grammar: The grammar is good, I haven’t noticed anything that really stood out to me negatively. If you don’t include the occasional censored swear words. (Thought that was great.)
Overall: I really am enjoying this book. I can’t wait to read more and explore what’s behind the blocked core and evil step-mother.

The idea behind this story reminds me quite a bit of 1001 nights. It's not a direct analogy, but the way that the MC utilizes the wisdom in the stories to effect his plan for escape is reminiscent of the constant stays of execution that the storyteller in that classic employed.
Or perhaps the story is more like The Count of Monte Cristo, in which a prisoner obtains power and wealth and sets out to enact revenge upon those who falsely imprisoned him.
It's too early to tell exactly where the author is taking this story, but I'm very much looking forward to finding out. I gave five stars for the Story and Character fields because I firmly believe that this story deserves them. The tale of Tristan struggling in his captivity is compelling, and I really enjoyed the first major arc of this story. I won't spoil it, but it's worth reading.
That said, this story isn't perfect. I detracted a point from the grammar section because there were a number of mistakes which I spotted during my read through. As a general rule of thumb, for every mistake that I spot I assume that there are ten or so that I do not. I'm a writer not an editor, but from my experience that rule of thumb is fairly accurate. That said, the grammatical issues didn't seriously detract from my enjoyment of the story.
In terms of style, I feel that this is the area in which the author could improve the most. While it's an enjoyable read and great story, it gets hung up too much in the technical details and has a tendency to info-dump.
Overall it's a great story with Xianxia and LitRPG elements and I recommend it to fans of those subgenres.

Interesting world, well written. The MC is a child who has been severely physically and emotionally abused and has lost most of his empathy and trust in others, but is managing not to be a murder hobo despite this. He is somewhat feral, morally gray, but also resourceful, brave and determined and I find myself wanting him to not only succeed but thrive. Hope MC will grow and heal. Good characterization and plot. Worth reading.
P.S. Another good story on hiatus. And stopped on a bit of a cliffhanger - arrgghhh. Ah well, I really enjoyed your story FallenMoon3; be well, God bless and good fortune - and a hug because hugs make everything better.

I enjoy the premise and the character for the most part, however, the author has a bad habit of swapping perspectives at times when it doesn't need to, and time jumping without telling us either what happened, or how long it's been. Several chapters feel like either a chapter prior is simply missing, or in some cases reversed.

I will admit, i did not get past chapter 2 or something, but already there several steps in logic have been skipped or glossed over. Definitely not my cup of tea. If you like xian xia you will probably like this though
For me, as i said logic is glossed over, not fully explained. So a 10yo on the deaths doors suddenly developes a proto cultivation technique in span of couple of months with help of fairy tales. That like a rando creating gingerbread recipe based on several versions of Hans&Gretel.
Then there are the little inconsistencies. In one paragraph the MC looses track of time, in the next one it has been clearly a week. Not so much as 'unknown to him a week has passed' or something.
Or one moment he stresses over being forgotten since no food has come and eats a 15cm centipede. Next moment 2 months pass with no mention of food.
I haven't gotten far in the book so cant tell if it has potential. All i got was frustration cuz of above mentioned stuff.
Id say wait for rewrite, but as it has been flagged 'inactive' i dont think its comming
