System Glitch

Description
Joe’s world changed in a heartbeat. One minute he and his dog, Bixby were filming for his YouTube channel and the next, there were strange scrolls appearing in his vision and monsters from legend were chasing them across a strange stitched together landscape. The System had arrived and somehow, Joe and Bixby were left out of the tutorial with no information and no idea what’s going on.
**Author’s Note**
This is anApocalyptic LitRPGstory that began after I found the genre and devoured books from the likes of Tao Wong, JF Brink, Tom Larcombe and Noret Flood. Here you will find a version that incorporates video game as well as tabletop RPG elements.
Additionally, I had in mind the classic dungeon crawling D&D adventures I enjoyed when I was younger, so it is written with that type of nostalgia in mind. It deviates from a lot of stories like it in that the main character is OP for a reason but not God-like. For me the real story is in the relationships with the rest of the characters and watching them all learn, grow and become kind of like a classic adventuring group.
I added the traumatising content tag because I am unsure of what may trigger people. There is death, dismemberment and people in danger from other people, but I will never write a rape scene or go into horror levels of graphic detail when it is human on human drama.
Also keep in mind that I am not a trained writer, but I know how to tell a story. Please be kind in your review as I am still learning.

- 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you're familiar with the LitRPG Apocalypse genre, you'll probably like this story. Characters act rationally according to how they are developed, growth is consistent and frequent, and there's plenty of action and exploration to flesh out this changed world. I appreciate that the protagonist is not a murderhobo, and I love his wholesome bond with his dog. There's also some plot points set up for the future, such as the glitches that caused Joe to skip the tutorial. Overall, a good read, and I definately reccomend it.
- Celeste CliffordRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoy the fact that you actually use the blue screens for the status, etc. I love the interactions between him, the system and the meddlesome busybody who messes with him and the system. I was a bit worried when I saw that there would be romance, but so far its been very fun to read. Can't wait for a new chapter!
- Rune RalmeceoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this idea
the main characters are easy to relate to and a joy to join them on their journey
I love the people they've met and all they've done
I will definitely buy this book once it's available
I applaud your efforts to write on top of all else you've dealt with and hope you'll write more but will understand if you can't or don't want to
smiles and good tidings - ThefurbRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story starts with standard premise but has lots of promise. Definitely worth the read as of chapter 8.
Nothing ground breaking yet and the MC is not OP from the start with realistic reactions to the system apocalypse. I enjoy that the MC is not immediately figuring things out and struggling. - ZeroCultivationRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0For people checking it out and wondering if this is worth your time. I think it is! Has a charm to it, the friendship between MC and dog is really sweet, MC himself is a pretty good guy and not some annoying edgelord, the concept is fun, and the writing well done overall. Give it a chance.
- bwfoster78Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, kudos to the author for using "System" and "Apocalypse" in his title without putting them together in a certain order.
Honestly, I'm really liking this one so far. The level zero/deferred experience thing isn't really my favorite, but there are a lot of positives here. I especially like the character. In a lot of RR litrpgs, the protagonists can come across as very emotionally stunted. This guy actually cares about people and builds real relationships.
Overall, very solid story. I'm looking forward to see where this one goes. - MechmanasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I didn't really have any issues with the way it was before. If I did it would be that joe didn't ask more question later on the story. The instant liking of Iona and Joe was a bit weird. But it's a system book so go with the flow. The rewrite is as chapter thirteen still the same. I really liked the fact that the arc with the giant is still the same. Really looking forward to more. The growth of the author is a good one for the update looking forward to more of this.
- readswellwithotherRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The best compliment that I can give this story is that it is interesting enough for me to get caught up to the author's releases in just a couple of days.
The most frustrating part of that is now I have to wait for more chapters, and find something else to read in the meantime.
All in all the story is keeping my interest. My favorite part is the interactions between Joe and Bixby. My least favorite is that so much is still a mystery such as what is causing the glitches, a better understanding of the system, and now that Joe has found his sister and gotten a class what is the long term goal or purpose. I mean why is he becoming so powerful when there is no big bad to fight. - DrPhilly_cheese_steakRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5It is a bit wish-fulfilling at times, not that there's anything wrong with moderately OP MCs, as long as it's in moderation. I'll give it to the author: Most of the characters are real to the touch, and most of what this story lacks is polish! I just hope that this work doesn't become some type of asinine bull. I see many flaws, but nonetheless, this is a truly captivating work in the making! My only real advice I can give as a fellow writer is to never fall to far into romance stereotypes, or any normal tropes for that matter, or at least, never too far into them. You've managed to imagine the characters not as carbon copies of their preconceptive molds, but as people! Writing is like a tree or flowering shrub; you plant a seed, and if it takes, you nurture it with ideas and concepts, with a light drizzle of imagination, while simultaneously grounding it in reality. Next, you create branches of characters and personalities and plots and schemes, all tied together in the world you are building and the lore you are weaving. While pruning to make sure it never grows too far off track, of course. You're also making sure to leave enough shrubbery for it to grow naturally on its own. I can see you're new to writing, and by that, I mean writing professionally, and that you are also receptive to constructive critisism and ideas. I think that's great, and kudos to you!
Here's what I thought of the categories of this novella of yours overall, though:
Story: Where is it?
I don't see much of where we go from here. It's simply too early, too nascent. Will there be romance, politics, dramatic intrigue?
I realize Joe wants to find his family and keep them safe, but what will his role in this new world be? A Savior, for a displaced humanity? An Avenger, for his family and good friend the Jotun, BFG? A Friend of the Forest, future Ent ambassador? A predecessor to the most badass Goblin Slayer spinoff I have ever laid my time-weary eyes upon, after that oath he swore? And what if th - ClavitaRoyal Road★★★ 3.0TL;DR If you don't mind OP MC that mostly occupies himself with beating up some over leveled monsters, you'll probably enjoy this one.
I'm frustrated by MC. At the beginning I was willing to overlook some of MC's quirks, but the farther we delv into the plot the more I'm irritated by his thoughtlessness and the sheer plot armor. Although overcoming foes that should splatter MC without breaking a sweat is a popular trope in LitRPG (and I've even come to enjoy it) there really should be some kind of limit. While MC does occasionally injure himself fighting superior enemy, it's very easy to take those encounters as victories since MC doesn't learn from them. He doesn't wonder what went wrong or how to improve, he collects the cool gadgets and sprints towards next over leveled loot-generator.
MC is supposed to be a survival expert, but his expertise glitches with the System.
He doesn't seem all that concerned with water supplies, he cooks worms for lunch even though he has a perfectly suitable bird meet right next to his ass, he naps on cold ground even though he built a few shelters in the vicinity just before System Initiation.
MC also claims to be familiar with RPG games, but
willingly enters the dungeon to check it out and dismisses the notification he's in a freaking level 100+ zone.
It would probably work better, in a narrative sense, if he was NOT an expert on those things, but a dog trainer or something.
The plot is confined to basic survival and leveling style that characterizes the LitRPG niche. There's not really any higher goal in MC mind - there's a mention of family at some point, but it comes across as an afterthought rather than a pressing concern. This lack of goal is an issue, because without a plot the reader doesn't have a choice but to focus on character growth - which is non-existent. MC is fully developed pretty much from the beginning. He also get OP so quickly I might still be experiencing a whiplash.
Also, it might be just a "me" problem, but
