Superluminal (Volume 1) - The Dream

Born to a broken home, Leo Walker, a fan of his world's superheroes, tragically loses his parents. If you mix in an S-ranked supervillain's superpowers into this already volatile mix, is it inevitable that Leo becomes another villain? A villainess seeks her rebirth. Will she tempt Leo to embrace the void?

Adding to this tangle, Leo suspects that he's actually a girl on the inside. Thankfully, to balance things out, she has her loving Auntie Goonie and cousin Quinn to guide her, albeit her new sister isn't exactly a role model. She grows with their help to become who she was meant to become, Leona Ramses, an active and courageous young woman.

While finding herself, she discovers love with a girl named Sarah Namias, an irresistible catgirl. While she fills Leona's heart with love, Sarah's words and actions mercilessly tie Leona's brain and guts into knots!

Meanwhile, far away from Earth, the entire universe is under siege by shadowy other dimensional beings bent on changing it for the worse. There are many dots to connect before this tale is over. What form will they take?

This is a light novel project that I've been hoping I can get published. At this point, my only option is to self-publish. I figured I might as well see what Royal Road's readers think about it.

This is a polished and expanded version of what I released onScribblehub. Just volume one is ready to post for now. Because of the constraints of my editor's free time and lack of it and a series of rejections by a publisher, I have since started working on another project. This version has been ready to go as it currently is for about half a year, but my self-confidence has been plummeting lately.

Editing by myself and AlliterativeArts. The current edition has adjustments/changes suggested by the publisher I submitted this to.

For readers of this review, I've helped Rella out on this project as an editor so I'm absolutely partial to it. It's been a huge passion of hers and I know she'd appreciate any constructive feedback any of the rest of you can provide. Please do try to explain why you might feel the way you do though, it drives us nuts trying to read feedback that's too simplistic.
Things start out fairly "low-powered" in that we're dealing with almost exclusively mundane issues in a superhero world, but as the story really ramps up so does the exciting stuff. It's a story that starts with a bang then talks about the very real fallout that occurs in a normal person's young life. It's definitely a story that builds so you may have to stick with it a bit, but the priniciple characters are all interesting and we get to know them more intimately as we go on.
Anyway, this one gets an honest recommendation from me. I wouldn't have spent hours and hours helping out on this if I didn't think you wouldn't get something worthwhile out of it too.

Very well written with well-rounded characters.
The characters are cute and relatable, their development is mainly what is keeping me reading.
The pace is slow, with primarily character/world-building and little action. A b-plot is included in the first part with some action, but it falls somewhat flat as we don't know the characters, and it goes a little too fast with big jumps in the timeline.
The second act of the MC plot is more action-packed, with some conflict, even if it is still shallow. The setup seems exciting, and I can't wait to see the payoff.
