Description
Hoplite Thirty-Seven had thought he was going to die, that his long career of serving Terna and the Eighth Arm had come to an end after the antimatter bomb had detonated... Yet that had not been the case. Instead, he had ended up on a back-water world where nothing made sense. Magic wasn't supposed to be real, neither were elves or other fantasy creatures... yet here on Ahkoolis, that was reality.

- 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The contrast between the super-soldier protagonist and the fantasy setting lead to plenty of amusing situations and dialogue, while an engaging plot moves along at a strong pace. There is a great cast of complex and interesting characters already, while worldbuilding has coalesced spectacularly. Extremely fun and well crafted start.Since my initial review, a few more chapters have come out, and parts of the beginning were revised, while maintaining the core structure and quality that I love.Give this story a read!

- Bassassasin06Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Incredible. I was so disappointed when I caught up. I read all the way up to Nate’s chapter on 05/25/2025 and was so freaking disappointed that there wasn’t more to read. Truly some good stuff. I can see this going on for a looooong time. Perhaps finished within 400 chapters with All the world building. Sadly took my 3-4 days to read, though I read non stop about 8 hours a day. Now I don’t know what to do, o can’t wait for the next chapter. I’m so happy that the author is still going.
- ArockalypseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Basically space marine and a batch of astra militarum get isekai’d. And it’s really flipping good. Tons of depth and thematic mechanics in the magic system, both the flame that’s available to all mages and the shounen style system of the pillar-born. Prose is a lot better than baseline competent, actively contributing to immersion. Character craft is great, character growth is top tier, it’s hard to find better on RoyalRoad. Plot points are also top tier, sure the overarching path is given but the details really keep you on your toes. Great use of foreshadowing and payoff without being predictable.
One minor nitpick is that some of the comedic sequences overstay a tiny bit, but honestly that’s easily preference. - BasedChiefRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book was a very fun read especially with a group. Characters and setting were awesome and easy to dive into. The setup for the sequel is very prevalent and done well to draw you into the quest. Especially with all the connections made between the realms which keeps you wondering. Really looking forward to the sequel!
- ChilldylRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Read the entirety of Books 1 and 2 without an account, but loved almost every chapter of it regardless! This story alone has inspired me to read more and has shown me that reading isn't just for dweebs and women going through their mid-life crises! Also I love all of the main cast and they seem to be written with a lot of thought in mind! I know he considers the readers' opinions as well so he gets a plus for that too! Very glad to have found this story and this author at the time that I did!
- CitrusyyyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Everything about this story had me hooked after the 3rd paragraph or so. Definitely shaping up to be one of the best stories on RoyalRoad. It just needs a Patreon and bonus chapters now. Story 5/5. Grammar 5/5. Characters 5/5. Amazingness 5/5. I am looking forward to where this Hoplite will take us on this Fantasy world.
- CopperKastRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall/story:
This has become my current favorite story on RR. The main story lines are well written with no glaring plot holes I could find, as well as very few continuity errors which are a personal pet peeve I try to find in everything I read. The scenes are exceptionally well detailed (admittedly almost to the point of bloat but not quite) and once action starts the author doesn’t bog down the pacing with too much detail, but there is still enough to thoroughly immerse Yourself.
The first of two negative things I wanted to bring up was the lack of information in the first book. There are a few major things that aren’t explained what they are until rather late into the read compared to when introduced, which can make understanding what is being talked about a bit frustrating as you are left in the dark on principles important to the story, however you do learn about them eventually or using contextual clues you can figure it out on the way.
Characters:
The characters are as well written as the story, being diverse with their own unique personalities and flaws as well as well paced growth. The only thing lacking in any way character-wise(in my own personal opinion) might be the main big bad up to this point not having quite as much depth as they could but overall that isn’t much of a problem as the story revolves around the main and side characters (obviously).
Grammar:
As I stated previously, it is well written, and I only found minor errors such as an incorrect tense or a missing possessive apostrophe. These errors happen infrequently (maybe once or twice every three to four chapters), and are of no real issue towards the immersion of the story. There are occasional run-on sentences, however they are infrequent and do not break up the flow of reading.
Style:
The second of two slightly negative thing I could say about this particular story (it is very slight and subjective to personal taste in this case) is the style of writing. There are some parts where it ca - CrowThreeWingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started reading, as the under and overtones of halo, mixed with a dnd world setting, intrigued me. Read ch.1, then ch.2, before long I was hooked by its unique take on the themes and was left wanting.
Your info dump is just the right balance, while the action is given in small and powerful bursts. Just a suggestion if you must make a long fight sequence try and break it down into a series of bursts, for settings such as pitched battles or full on war campaigns.
Other than that, the character progression is just right.
You have all the stars I can hit, on this review. - GwalmeichRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you like adventure stories with a lot of fighting, this is for you. The world building is fairly decent and the characters are fleshed out quite well. The author describes in detail the events of the story. If you like super marines kicking wizard asses, you'll be just fine.
