Description

There are no heroes in Wichita…

The heroes Terry Fairway once idolized have turned against him, hunting him down at every turn. His grandfather, the ruthless S-ranked necromancer who rules the city, watches from his throne as the people starve and suffer. Vampires stalk the streets unchecked, feeding on the innocent without fear of reprisal.

Terry always believed his family were the good guys, but Wichita isn't a city of heroes or villains—it's a city of power. And if power is all that matters, then power is what Terry will seize.

He’ll become powerful enough to drive the vampires from the shadows. Powerful enough to feed the hungry and defend the downtrodden. Powerful enough to challenge his grandfather and bring hope to a city drowning in darkness.

Because even in the deepest black, a single light can spark a revolution. And Terry's ready to burn bright.

Or burn it all to the ground trying.

I’ve read a lot of superhero fiction over the years, starting with ‘The Death and Life of Superman’ novelization nearly three decades ago. There’s just something about superheroes and the written word that mesh so well together, a feeling that comics and film will never be able to capture. Losing yourself in the story, disappearing for hours on end is an experience that holds no comparison.
Super Genetics is easily in the same category. This is a tale whose early chapters I’ve devoured with a voracity and intensity that I rarely experience anymore. The characters are fresh and endearing, believable and charismatic. The setting is unique, with a feel more akin to the old rpg setting from Aberrant. The line between heroes and villains is far more blurry here than it is in other stories, with it really being a matter of perceptions as much as actions. Into the middle of this comes Terry, the grandson of Necroton, self-styled Emperor of the free city of Wichita.
Already in these early chapters, a grand campaign has been laid. While any litRPG elements are only hinted at in these early chapters, the development of its setting and major players is by far and above worth the wait for more crunchy aspects. This is a tale that is building up to be something special, and I’m eager to see where it leads.
Style: More so than the content, the style of this story evokes a feeling similar to Super Supportive. If you resonated with that story, you’re probably going to get the same from this one.
Story: As mentioned earlier, the setting for Super Genetics is rather unique. The world as we know it is gone. Nations have fallen, and heroes have used their power to assert dominance over what areas they can, as either protectors, benefactors, or dictators, depending on whose asking. Dynasties have formed, and new battle lines have been drawn. Who exactly is good and who is bad isn’t immediately clear, at least not in what little has been revealed so far.
There’s more I could say on this

This is one of the best superhero stories ive read, the characters are real and believable. Also, the story has a value for being good, there is meaning and purpose, i love it. I’m getting tired of different but ultimately vain story that encourage selfishness, this story has a unique flavor to a overwritten genre that has the oomph to keep me hooked, im glad i found it

Man I’m enjoying the crap out of this. I don’t really know how to describe the story without spoiling what’s there now.
But there’s plenty of interesting story threads and I am eagerly looking forward to finding out what happens next.
This is great work by the author, keep it up 😄

Honestly, I was a bit put off by the title.  I thought it was some kind of eugenics-with-superpowers, or maybe a simple X-Men ripoff.  It might need a bit of a rework.
The story is absolutely nothing like what I had assumed.  Genetics seem to play almost no part in this.  What I got instead is a LitRPG that is rather light in terms of the RPG and heavy on the Lit.
The worldbuilding is quite deep and thorough.  The first superpowers appeared in the 80s, and predictably the world went to crap as a result.  Power is the ultimate authority and it appears that supers definitely took advantage of that.
There is a lot of lore between then and when the story takes place, revealed slowly as our main character Terry starts to discover things about this world, and his family, and his own place in it.
I have to say that the time period was chosen quite well.  Terry is too young to have experienced the upheaval of the first supers, yet close enough to personally know a few (his grandfather, primarily).  Which puts him, and the readers, in a prime position to learn about many aspects of the world.
And we learn about it mainly though the characters, and Terry's relationship with them.  The characters truly are the focus in this story.  And they've got such depth and backstory that I basically got mood whiplash every time I learned more about them.  I think it's masterfully crafted.
The System itself is still mostly a mystery, with most people who have power being sworn to secrecy.  However, that power seems to have little to nothing to do with genetics, which is why I'm still left scratching my head at the title.
The world itself is still unstable, and it's hard to truly know the motivations of other supers because they could be under the influence of the System, which has its own goals.  It, too, is clearly another mystery that will play a major role plot-wise, and not just a collection of numbers to go up.
Spelling and grammar are fine, only an occasional typo at worst.  Serious

I like it. There's some ups and downs and lulls, but overall, the concept is quite intriguing, and while I might be a sucker for Superhero LitRPG, that does not invalidate how intriguing this story is and how much you want to root for the MC. After all, isn't that one of the most important elements to any story?

Great progression and character depth. Lots of twists and turns to leave you waiting to see how it works out. Relatable characters that seem like someone you could actually know or meet in real life. The loose ends keep you on the edge and make you think of how things are going so you stay in the story

The char's are unique, well defined, and they don't meet any of the major tropes that many authors try to glomp onto, which I like. I prefer unique char's not (Jason 612,140,007)..... And the author does this really well.
The world from what's been shared is fairly unique in a very saturated genre. I like how the descriptions of powers, and their growth has been hinted at so far, and I look forward to the MC's awakening.
It amuses me that the MC is the grandson of the evil lich lord summoner of dark things, and dead bodies. The drama is nice and not over stated so far. The author keeps the story to one POV so far which I greatly prefer. I know it can make a story easier to fluff out if you tell things from different perspectives, and it allows more teasers.... But I'd much rather just stick to the main Char and take the world from their perspective.
The last bit I really laugh at, is how the world fell and things reverted to a more dark ages kind of feel. Cities verse cities, no major political factions, BUT there is still internet.

Really enjoying the characters and world building. Terry has been a solid protagonist so far. Waiting for him to have his awakening and the story to get rolling. Also interested in backstory on how everything ended up like it has become.
I will definitely keep reading to see where the story goes.

I started reading this story two days ago. I can say it's easily in my top 5 here on royal road. I wasn't hooked for the first couple of chapters but  on chaprer three i was hooked. The author has really created such a compelling world. The characters are interesting and have great motivations and depth. Truly feels like a wide world full of intrigue. Very very excited to see where this goes! Edit: the end arc of book 2 and where book 3 is at so far has had me leaving this story unread. Might pick it up again later.

I like what the writer is doing with showing the older supers not being what you expect Terry is a sympathetic hero even though his powers could easily make him arrogant he just needs to realise something about a certain person in his circle of friends now I'm just bumbed that am caught up and have to wait
