Summoned to be a Lord

Description

Meet Josh, a guy who barely scraped through high school and couldn’t get into a single decent college. Now, somehow, he’s a Lord in the magical kingdom of Pertis. And if that wasn’t enough, he got the lowest mana rating out of all one hundred summoned 'scholars.' With thousands of serfs and citizens put under his rule, Josh has no choice but to figure things out fast. Especially when every single one of those 'scholars' has the potential to become an Archmage.

What to expect:

-Kingdom building.

- War/politics.

-Unique magic system.

- Grimdark fantasy world.

- A MC that is morally grey.

- Well thought-out plot.

- Weak to strong or even strongest.

As I always loved kingdom-building stories together with progression fantasy stories, this is my try to blend the two together into one.

This is my rewrite of my first attempt at writing something more than 100 words for a school assignment. Feedback is very much appreciated.

Pretty standard isekai setting, for all intents and purposes so far. There are some things I wish would be better executed however. The exposition for the most part is relatively straightforward and understandable but it is not always immediately relevant which makes some scenes and explain run a bit long. The MC is a hothead who has the ability to think things through but doesn’t at the slightest provocation. Some things seem to trigger him more than others for no apparent reason, I would use his past to explain his odd temperament. Adults don’t go around punching strangers they had just met because they are frustrated, thats unhinged behavior. When he meets his superiors he knows enough at that point to avoid lashing out as he did. All points to his substandard impulse control which could be some trauma response or part of his upbringing, or even more interestingly part of his newfound powers. We know nothing of his past life so it seems a bit dramatic and exaggerated when it occurs. Both options could be explored narratively since there are gaps. The magic system and sparse combat is okay so far. The side characters are the strength of this novel, each with their own motivations and history that the MC is smart enough to key into when he isn’t in his feelings. That’s where the immersion break is because he acts in contradiction to himself. When he isn’t mad he is a farsighted and thoughtful adult, when he is he becomes a Pre-teen. As I have said before there is no narrative reason to why that is. While there are good novels with emotionally stunted MCs they always have reasons why.

So this story does show a lot of promise but there are still some interesting writing inconsistencies, nothing too bad but enough to jar me out of the emersion. (how does an elf know earth slang?) but anyways. I'll follow and keep an eye on this story, I like the emotional magic flavor here and am curious to see how to develops.
