The atmosphere is thick with tension, and the descriptions are effective in setting a dystopian, almost apocalyptic mood.
The opening sets a gripping pace with a city on the brink of collapse, teetering between technological failures and human tragedy. The backdrop of Ravetham, with its mix of traffic jams, wrecks, and paramedics scrambling to save lives, feels realistic yet surreal, a reflection of the chaos eating away at the city's core. The combination of modern elements, like a livestream, with fantastical ones, like dragons and duchesses from the Underdark, adds an intriguing layer of complexity to the world-building.
The plot itself progresses smoothly from Kaelen’s helpless observation of the city's collapse to the introduction of key characters who hint at an even bigger threat—a shadowy force distorting reality. The shift between urban disaster and supernatural interference is seamless, keeping the reader engaged with both the personal stakes for Kaelen and the larger looming danger
Kaelen is portrayed as a thoughtful and responsible protagonist, though clearly burdened by his inability to keep Ravetham from unraveling. His dynamic with the various characters—Seraphis, Loren, Aelira—adds depth to his role. The tension between his personal feelings for Loren and his duty, along with the brewing conflict between Seraphis and Aelira, keeps the interpersonal drama alive amidst the chaos. This layer of emotion humanizes Kaelen and offers moments of relief from the intense action surrounding him.
Seraphis, with her regal dragon persona, is a standout character. Her fiery pride and quick temper make her a formidable ally but also add tension, especially in the moments

This is a fun and fast urban fantasy that falls somewhere between "Arcane" and "The Dresden Files".
The story follows the young Kaelen Valrath, a young man trying to build a criminal empire using nothing but grit, determination and psychic powers. This world sees D&D races and magic clash with our own modern sensibilities, and the result is a fantastical yet gritty setting.
Kaelen is the classic underdog. His gang, the Last Strays, is outmatched at every turn, and his climb to the top involves dealing with everything from werewolf druid producers to nercromancers.
The action is really fast and fun. The opening chapters, set in a supernatural fight club, is an action-packed thrill ride to behold. There's plenty of fun characters, and the melding of the criminal underworld and supernatural underworld is one of the web fiction's strongest traits.
While the style is generally effectively - especially in action scenes - there are a few times the word choice feels a bit repetitive, especially for long stretches of prose. But this can be improved in subsequent chapters.
Overall, this is a really fun and fast-paced urban fantasy, with a mix of criminal and superhero elements to boot. It’s clear the author is having a good time, and so am I just reading it!
