Description
In the year 2057, the world has become a corporate-run utopia for the super-rich, and a hellhole for all the rest. Catherine 'Cat' Leblanc is an orphan that is about as far from super-rich as one can be. When the Incursion alarms start blaring and the sky starts raining hungry xenos, it's just another blemish on an already piss-poor afternoon. A cyberpunk magical-girl alien-invasion LitRPG. It’s exactly as wild as it sounds.

- JubileeFiveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I adore this series. To be fair, I am an easy mark for Ravensdagger. Give me cuteness, sapphic vibes, and some sillyness and I am basically smitten. That said, this series is so much more. It's a system apocalypse that's steeped in cyberpunk styling. Fans of The Sprawl Trilogy, Snowcrash and some of Phillip Dick's more cyberpunk works will find themselves recognizing the world Mr. Dagger has created. I found the system, introduced by alien AI, to make a lot of sense in context of the world and its effects are felt throughout the society, even if only a few individuals have access to the system.
Fans of leveling and numbers may feel a bit disappointed, but the progression in this series remains clear cut anyway, just without labels. The samurai shown have vastly different amounts of personal power, and we see Cat grow stronger and stronger as the story progresses. With lots of super fun epic battles against a variety of alien (and non-alien) menaces that really show off how much stronger she gets through the story.
One thing that I am less interested in is the Stray Cat Smut. I personally don't think the interlewds add anything to the story for me (although I suspect many folks look forward to them). I prefer the sweet downtime we see with Cat and Lucy over the more explicity sexual scenes. Luckily for me (and, I am sure, disappointingly for others) these only appear occasionally and don't detract from the story even if you, like me, aren't into that type of story. On the other hand, the constant inappropriate comments from Cat and other characters throughout the story are great and really show us who Cat is, and the super sweet relationship between Cat and Lucy and the Kittens really adds a fantastic contrast to the intense action that makes up most of the story.
And in story time, its hard to believe its only been a few days. Someone please get Stray Cat a cat nap. - Jotun RRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First thing I gotta say is that the world building in this is amazing and extremely funny in the tragic comedy way, the world might be ending but that doesn't mean that we can't have a laugh about it.The story might say cyberpunk setting, but it shares very little in common with cyberpunk stories, this is more of a superhero setting, with colorful characters saving the day (or making it interesting at least). The plot is alright, but not the real focus of the book, the vibes are what is king here and RavensDagger crushes it in that regard.100 megatons / 10it really makes you feel like a samurai
- BookMouse515Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Pretty good twist on the normal System plot, both in the setting of a futuristic distopia and in the main character by an author whose already proven he has great writing skills. The dialogue is believeable, the fights thrilling, the cliffhangers wrenching, and the characters sympathetic. Can't recommend more, and I promise that you'll be entertained if you give this story a try.
- DatateqRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just finished book 7 and you can say what you want, but the story is very entertaining and the characters are relatable. The LitRPG elements are fairly light but the system is more alive within the AIs. The fact that the basis of the story has sparked so much fanfiction, not out of impatience or irritation, but out of inspiration is telling in and of itself. So kudos to you for lighting off a phenomenon! Thanks for sharing you time and creativity.
- AspenJoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love this story, really great stuff. That's coming from a girl that dosen't really enjoy sci-fi stuff all too much. A also well done story, magical girl gunslinger, that I read before this said it was inspired by this one, so I'd thought I would give it a try.I've also read some of your other stories like cinnamon bun bun and same with that story, the characters in this seemed great overall. I felt like the other orphans besides Lucy sort of fall by the wayside. Overall loved it, thanks for the great read!
- HabenzyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great characters, and surprisingly wholesome with a generous helping of badassery. As a Vermonter I was also tickled to see a full chapter set in Burlington, VT. My only complaint is that there was a billboard in B-town, and that’s illegal in this state! Gritty cyberpunk megacorps and imminent threat of extinction from evil alien plants is all well and good, but if anything shows the dystopian nature of the future it’s that! Overall I’m thoroughly enjoying this story.
- Danzafan37Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'll start with my biggest critique because if this is a dealbreaker, I find it a small one. Especially in the later chapters, it's kinda clear it is dictated because the tense will slip into present tense, usually 0-3 times a chapter. That, and I don't mind the horniness factor but it's also a bit much sometimes.
So what's good about it?
The characters really do feel more like people than story vehicles. The biggie there is the MC is often conflicted and confused but not in a late-stage Jason Asano kind of way, more of a "I guess I'll see if this works and hope it doesn't blow up" kind of way. It's useful to see her perspective and how it's not as though she believes she's doing everything right - it's just a person with honest thoughts, many of which are a bit too horny but still 😅
The humor is wry but not dry. Like there are a lot of horrific things but there is still a lot of joy and fun and joking. It's one of those things where it keeps you coming back because it's uplifting despite the horror of what's happening 😅
The setting/world-building/system is really unique and I think that is partly why it's spawned so many fan fictions on here. It's just something really cool to play in. There's a ton of flexibility but with some established rules but those rules are changing at the same time as the world evolves. Even though it's only been a few weeks 😅
If you are looking for funny + cyberpunk but without all the really weird dark elements and racism, I highly recommend :)
Honestly, I give the story a 5 despite being in 3K+ pages and it only being across like a month if that (I think it's under 2 weeks). The pacing is really great but it doesn't feel like there is a ton of earth-moving events across that timeframe. She is also a small-fry in the greater scheme so there is a ton of power runway. - HikinBearRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started, stopped, and started up again reading this story many times since the beginning of 2023. The first two books were uneven and couldn’t hold my interest. The shear number of Fan Fictions drove me back to finish the main story. And the shear size meant a serious time sink, but ultimately worth it.
Most LitRPGs have a mysterious “System” watching the characters and allotting Stats for Strength, Health, etc. Here the author introduces the mysterious “Protectors” that gift some people with a personal Artificial Intelligence (AI) that guides and interfaces with these Protectors and allows the characters to purchase wondrous Tech for Points. Tech so advanced that it passes into the realm of Magic. These people with an AI are known as “Samurai”.
The Main Character, Catherine (Cat) is a Sassy, snarky, combative young girl who grew up as a disabled child in an orphanage. She knew in surviving there is no giving up, so when the Aliens attack her group she successfully fights back and earns her place as a Samurai. She slowly earns enough points to fix all of her disabilities and learns to fight in earnest.
The MC is also a lesbian and perhaps too focused on sex. The early chapters on buying advanced sex toys is cute, but the tone is consistent throughout the books as an endearing female lech.
World Building: This is where the author shines. Few authors make the effort to create a fully immersive, working, live world so fully realized that others want to play in it. We have over a dozen so/called Fan Fictions. Most in the same world, some outside of it. Some are outstanding stories that are well worth reading as stand-alone stories by themselves.
Style: The style in mostly first person and pretty consistent.
Story: The story is huge and told well. Some sections aren’t as engaging as others, but overall it is excellent.
Grammar: Very good.
Characters: Excellent MC and lots of well drawn side characters. Overall Excellent. - JimRoyalRoad2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great unique content with something for everyone. It's quite enjoyable and the writing is really well done--it's very vividly descriptive and easy to picture. I'm a fan.I would love it if the chapters were longer in length, but this is the only (quite minor) issue--the story grabs you and you constantly want to hit "next chapter" and keep reading.
- KaladoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just started but damn, this is so good. You just gotta love when the world/setting is instantly unique and feels so fleshed out and believable quickly. Amazing setup, characters and system. I think "alien gifting a system" might be my new favorite genre, should look for more. But I don't think they can all be this good
