Description
Five thousand kilometres from shore. A sea of leviathans snapping at her heels. Marisol has never felt more alive.
Nearly a century ago, rifts opened and giant magic-blooded bugs descended upon humanity. They were named the ‘Swarm’ for their fierce, insatiable hunger for human flesh—but born and raised in a small desert village, Sand-Dancer Marisol wants nothing to do with them. All she wants to do is sail to a legendary island city and bring a vial of healing seawater back to her sickly mama. Who has time to care about some distant war?
But just when she earns enough to pay for her once-in-a-lifetime trip to the city, a swarm of leviathans attack her ship and strand her in the middle of the sea, forcing her to pick a class from a system.
Three out of four classes will save her life and bring her home, but only one will let her stand on water, move forward, and save her mother.
So what if her system tells her she has a less than one percent chance of making the journey?
Marisol will skate to the city or die trying.

- sleepy gender fluidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Storm Strider is not the most complicated story you'll ever read, it's not enormous clashes of strategy and factions. It's still good though, because unlike many simple stories it doesn't try to be a mess of grand events. Simple, unpretentious, mostly fighting with a sprinkle of character and development for the larger story series.
Excellent. - LukenereclipseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A Wonderful read from beginning to end. Loved the writing, imagery, and characters. I read this entire novel in the span of two weeks. Thankfully you have many other books in this world. Loved the concepts of growth and the maturation of the characters. Thanks again for this great story.
- RedLikeBlackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story, while the first half took me around two weeks to get through and had some high and low points the second half (from around chapter 60 onwards) was all so intense that I finished it in a few hours, really looking forward to seeing Marisol again in the other Brightburrow stories, the story is so much better than I expected from the ad.
- TiberiusReignsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Do you crave a character driven story? Do you crave meaningful, measurable improvement of the character?
If so, this is for you.
Child of a single parent, living a different life with a different dream in an ongoing apocalypse, dares to challenge the universe to save her mother from an illness.
From the shining sands to the stormy seas, Marisol's journey will keep you at the edge of your seat as she keeps taking risks and doing the work to make them pay off.
Along the way, we not only get to meet more new complicated characters who help her challenge her expectations about herself and find ways to keep growing. - Xavius_NightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An absolutely amazing story, I found myself awaiting updates every single time I finished a chapter. For all that the author claims this is a simple story, it has an incredible depth to it, with characters rich in backstory and motivation, as well as antagonists you can just barely see the.point of view of - even as you cheer for them to finally stumble and fall.
And stumble they do, just like the main cast - nobody is perfect, after all. But Marisol, our main character? Well, she skates the line pretty closely. - classicdomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyed this one. The world is super detailed, the system’s interesting, and the fights are fun to read. The writing flows well and has solid grammar too. I didn’t click with the main character at first, but the story kept me hooked and paid off in the end—which is pretty rare for webnovels. Definitely worth checking out.
- flohogamerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best litrpgs I have ever read. The world building is great, the characters are great, the magic system is interesting (it’s so cool that you have to eat the bugs to gain exp instead of just killing them) the plot is gripping… Yeah. This is really good and the writer should be proud of themself for creating such an entertaining story.
- mootcarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read up to chapter 7 and schoolwork is calling but this is a great story. I've been binging Unmaker (also by this author) over the last week or so and while that one is good, I am looking forward to Storm Strider even more.
Summary - So far I love the MC, she doesn't start extra powerful and intelligent like some stories, instead, she gains the ability to "interface with the system" of the world. The unique abilities that she has honed for years play a part in her "class" choice, and it's great from a development standpoint that her class fits her talents so well. I like the world the story is set in and I like the general style. Occasionally some things are a bit cliche in the writing, but that's okay with me. Go enjoy the dancing and don't make a big deal about it okay?? It's a good story. :D At least so far, it is developing more or less how you'd expect, and if you've read other works in the series you more or less know the end result, but again, I don't mind that.
Style - I don't have much to say about it because I got so lost in the story I didn't even pay attention - sorry. But good job!
Grammar - good, no mistakes I noticed, there were a couple of sentences in the first chapter or two that didn't seem to flow quite right but after that, everything seemed good.
Story - I like the world; I've been jumping in and out of it over the last few months. I like seeing the references between one story and the next, but I haven't been able to keep up with all of them due to my schedule. I think it's great worldbuilding, and the concepts are great, without knowing too much of the plot yet, I can't say much more but I am excited to read more.
Character - Without giving too much away, the first few chapters have cardboard characters mainly but that's okay. The MC is developing and seems to stay true to herself for at least this first part, which is good. When we see more people again I'm sure they will be more developed when we know them for a while.
Thanks for the s - sleep deprived catRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Maybe I'm just a sucker for breezy, Erin Solstice-like MCs, but this is my favorite story from Maradina so far. And the fact that this MC is a dancer / performer, something I relate to very much as a theater kid, just makes the MC even better in my eyes
If you're looking for a relatively light-hearted (although, with the author's track record, we're definitely going to get tons of climactic, tear-jerker chapters) story with a stubbornly upbeat MC, this is THE one for you!
Prose, pacing, and grammar are, as usual coming from Maradina, impeccable. Nothing to say there. For this story in particular, I couldn't give criticism even if I wanted. It's just been so damn fun so far. Def check it out. You exchange the risk of losing 3 minutes of your life skimming the first chapter for the potential of embarking on an awesome journey - TheRNGeniusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved reading through this story! The heroine is very inspiring and relatable. Not all powerful, clumsy at times, but absolutely ferosious when it counts.
i also love the interconnected and terrifying world setting. The Swarm, the Hasharana, the different fronts against the Swarm.
i started with „The Unmaker“ and the „Worm Mage“ is next on the list!
Thanks for writing this story!
