Description
Five thousand kilometres from shore. A sea of leviathans snapping at her heels. Marisol has never felt more alive.
Nearly a century ago, rifts opened and giant magic-blooded bugs descended upon humanity. They were named the ‘Swarm’ for their fierce, insatiable hunger for human flesh—but born and raised in a small desert village, Sand-Dancer Marisol wants nothing to do with them. All she wants to do is sail to a legendary island city and bring a vial of healing seawater back to her sickly mama. Who has time to care about some distant war?
But just when she earns enough to pay for her once-in-a-lifetime trip to the city, a swarm of leviathans attack her ship and strand her in the middle of the sea, forcing her to pick a class from a system.
Three out of four classes will save her life and bring her home, but only one will let her stand on water, move forward, and save her mother.
So what if her system tells her she has a less than one percent chance of making the journey?
Marisol will skate to the city or die trying.

- sleepy gender fluidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Storm Strider is not the most complicated story you'll ever read, it's not enormous clashes of strategy and factions. It's still good though, because unlike many simple stories it doesn't try to be a mess of grand events. Simple, unpretentious, mostly fighting with a sprinkle of character and development for the larger story series.
Excellent. - classicdomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyed this one. The world is super detailed, the system’s interesting, and the fights are fun to read. The writing flows well and has solid grammar too. I didn’t click with the main character at first, but the story kept me hooked and paid off in the end—which is pretty rare for webnovels. Definitely worth checking out.
- mootcarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read up to chapter 7 and schoolwork is calling but this is a great story. I've been binging Unmaker (also by this author) over the last week or so and while that one is good, I am looking forward to Storm Strider even more.
Summary - So far I love the MC, she doesn't start extra powerful and intelligent like some stories, instead, she gains the ability to "interface with the system" of the world. The unique abilities that she has honed for years play a part in her "class" choice, and it's great from a development standpoint that her class fits her talents so well. I like the world the story is set in and I like the general style. Occasionally some things are a bit cliche in the writing, but that's okay with me. Go enjoy the dancing and don't make a big deal about it okay?? It's a good story. :D At least so far, it is developing more or less how you'd expect, and if you've read other works in the series you more or less know the end result, but again, I don't mind that.
Style - I don't have much to say about it because I got so lost in the story I didn't even pay attention - sorry. But good job!
Grammar - good, no mistakes I noticed, there were a couple of sentences in the first chapter or two that didn't seem to flow quite right but after that, everything seemed good.
Story - I like the world; I've been jumping in and out of it over the last few months. I like seeing the references between one story and the next, but I haven't been able to keep up with all of them due to my schedule. I think it's great worldbuilding, and the concepts are great, without knowing too much of the plot yet, I can't say much more but I am excited to read more.
Character - Without giving too much away, the first few chapters have cardboard characters mainly but that's okay. The MC is developing and seems to stay true to herself for at least this first part, which is good. When we see more people again I'm sure they will be more developed when we know them for a while.
Thanks for the s - sleep deprived catRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Maybe I'm just a sucker for breezy, Erin Solstice-like MCs, but this is my favorite story from Maradina so far. And the fact that this MC is a dancer / performer, something I relate to very much as a theater kid, just makes the MC even better in my eyes
If you're looking for a relatively light-hearted (although, with the author's track record, we're definitely going to get tons of climactic, tear-jerker chapters) story with a stubbornly upbeat MC, this is THE one for you!
Prose, pacing, and grammar are, as usual coming from Maradina, impeccable. Nothing to say there. For this story in particular, I couldn't give criticism even if I wanted. It's just been so damn fun so far. Def check it out. You exchange the risk of losing 3 minutes of your life skimming the first chapter for the potential of embarking on an awesome journey - LukenereclipseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A Wonderful read from beginning to end. Loved the writing, imagery, and characters. I read this entire novel in the span of two weeks. Thankfully you have many other books in this world. Loved the concepts of growth and the maturation of the characters. Thanks again for this great story.
- Xavius_NightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An absolutely amazing story, I found myself awaiting updates every single time I finished a chapter. For all that the author claims this is a simple story, it has an incredible depth to it, with characters rich in backstory and motivation, as well as antagonists you can just barely see the.point of view of - even as you cheer for them to finally stumble and fall.
And stumble they do, just like the main cast - nobody is perfect, after all. But Marisol, our main character? Well, she skates the line pretty closely. - magnaursaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is in its early days, so this review is up to only chapter 16. That being said, the writing is solid, with its own feel that flows nicely and in ways that feel natural. Time skips occur as appropriate, focusing on the important parts of the story and skipping chapters dedicated to minutia of training or uneventful travel. Attention is being paid to spelling and grammar, which is always appreciated, and edits to fix issues are prompt. Overall, I'm very much interested in following where this is going, but there's one thing that bothers me; the characters being inconsistent in their perspective towards killing. A character being hypocritical and experiencing growth when exposed to their own flaws can be an important part of a story, but she has someone giving her advice who is supposed to be extremely logical, so why aren't they advising killing threats? Maybe this will be addressed, but in the meantime it's the only major blemish on otherwise well-executed story.
- backgroundnoiseRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Enjoyable read that's at its best focusing on the main character. Choices made by some of the background characters/group can seem suspect tactically/strategically if you step back a bit. Those this may be because I do enjoy a number a stories that focus on that. That's not what this story is so unfair to judge too harshly because of it.
- RoxaraiRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Interesting premise but there are a few issues I have with the story. The first is the deus ex machina in the form of a book with new moves that she only learns when she needs an out. Secondly there is no down time to actually grow the MC. It is one problem after the next and it just becomes exhausting to read when the story is structured in this way.
- SecuutusRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Premise is great.
However, my main problem with the story is due to the FMC. Not that she is a bad MC, but that the writing falls flat when pertaining to her.
She seems to suddenly learn a new move to save the day suddenly right at the end, with almost no lead up or practice.
On top of that, the fight sequences seem rather flat. It just equates to: Run faster, spin more. There is not a lot of variety or detail to it.
Another minor criticism is that detail in other areas seems lost.
For example: I did not realize until Volume 2, what the outfit of the FMC's style was. I don't know if I just missed it, but it seems characters sometimes lack in visual descriptions.
