This is one of those fanfics that does some of my favourite things: taking the original setting and characters, and saying 'nope! This is my story now'.
AU stories tend to get a bad rap, though I personally don't know why. I love seeing a setting through a new lens, with new characters and new situations, close enough to the original to feel cozy, while different enough that there are no preconceptions in the way.
So, that's my thesis about AUs, sorry. On to the actual story itself!
Disclaimer: I haven't checked to see what all has been posted here so far; I read this story elsewhere in its entirety, so my review applies to the story as a whole.
The Twisted Force is a complete redo of The Force Awakens, with everything ... well ... twisted around. xD Raey is a scavenger dude and adorable fanboy, there are some stormtroopers who get actual stormtrooper storylines, and the Knights of Ren are given a seriously scary makeover into actually-dangerous.
The writing style and grammar are entirely competent. I have no complaints on that score.
Characters are vastly different from those you might expect, but internally consistent with themselves and each with their own arcs and drives. There are a few who stray toward author-favourite territory, but on the whole they're distinct and enjoyable to read about.
I'd say the pacing tends to vary a bit much in a few places, which holds the story back from a higher rating. That said, I have enjoyed reading it multiple times and eagerly await the sequel. Write faster, Xovinx! ;)
