Splinter Angel [Book 3 Onward]

Description
Ana just wanted to get home. To slip out of her dress and her heels, take a shower, and get into her PJs. Maybe have some hot chocolate before bed. It had been that kind of night. Instead, the kid she was bodyguarding got dragged through a hole in reality, and she went with him.
The bad news is that once the smoke settled, once she’d dealt with the idiots who dragged them through time and space or whatever, Nic was dead, Ana had no way home, and she had to deal with magic and floating numbers and a forest full of demons.
The good news? The locals are friendly. When they’re not trying to kill her.
What to expect:

- rrreaderzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve been enjoying the reveal of this new world alongside the protagonist. I really like her drive to get stronger, and the mechanisms we’ve seen so far. I’m a sucker for a totally broken class. Side characters are definitely engaging and the interactions come across as natural. As the stakes have ramped up, I’ve been looking forward to new chapters!
- AlsoJohnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0And it turned out they were being modest.
In the very first chapter of this "Suddenly summoned" 'TF is happening? Kill or be killed story Standard situations and characters seem like they may be a little bit more than the stereotype. The author isn't satisfied with that They totally break what you suspicions Suggest.
Interesting System, Interesting gamelit world of guilds and magics, MC has a class and backstory that promises a lot Given the first chapter There will be a lot. It will break expectations. - JmbfarmerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This started out alittle slower but it has picked up in the later chapters. The MC comes across very clinical and calculating at first as it goes on emotions are coming through. I'm enjoying the character growth, my only complaint is I read all the chapters and now I'm waiting on the next.
- JutsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story was a surprise. I was a bit put off by the cover but am glad i was wrong.
Strong character work, solid writing, a cool premise. Im not sure it is something that can stand up past the first arc with how OP the main character seems to be becoming but it certainly could surprise me there too.
The world and characters are definitely the more interesting thing here. The litrpg stuff is sadly a bit uninspired (so far) and fairly typical. More of an if its not broke dont fix it approach I guess. - OrlonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0[I'm not in the Patreon, this review is when I hit chapter 21.]
One way to rate isekai stories is by how much peril the MC is in after chapter 1, and how capable they are of dealing with it. Chapter 1 here sets the tone, with peril and confusion, but also some 9mm solutions.
If you prefer stories where the MC is thrown in the lowest pit of Hell and has to die 274 times just to level up enough to win a fight, this story is not for you. On the other hand, if you prefer an MC who starts out a little stronger, you might enjoy this one! Definitely the type of isekai where the MC mostly falls in with friends and the peril is manageable.
The system is an interesting one, sort of a soft class setup. People can choose classes based on the skills they have. You can reset and start over after learning new skills, if you don't mind dropping back to level 1. Seems that you keep the gains from your old class as high as you took it, and only start getting benefits from the new class after reaching a higher level than before. Experience can be used or sold. I don't remember seeing anything about a maximum number of skills. Looking forward to learning more about the system.
The world building is solid, and has some ideas I've not seen before.
Aside from the numbers going up, I'm enjoying the MC's introspection, conversations with the other characters, and the overall storyline. Splinter Angel is a well-written and enjoyable story. - SchusfusterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best Aro / Ace characters I've ever seen, it really captured the lifelong struggle I've had with wanting connection and affection, but not actually being able to feel social bonds or identify belonging.
Also just really well written and developed, solid character development, great action and energy. I'm so pleased to add this to my ongoing story library. - AThinkingCubeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am such a fan of badass female leads and this is a SHINING example!!! Anastasia is a deep, complex, interesting, queer, and TOTALLY AWESOME main character. She develops throughout the story and I'm here for it!!!
The supporting cast is also amazing and well characterized. The world building is still a bit mysterious, but feels very realistic -- there's no long expedition dumps, only experiential decorations.
Can't wait to read more! Excellent writing, 10/10 recommend - MechalichRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Splinter Angel is, to this point, a well-written, well-characterized, and well-structured isekai LitRPG. It is one of the best versions of that approach I've encountered and has just enough personalization - mostly through the specific mixture of traits the protagonist is carrying around - to not feel entirely generic. It's a very strong opening and if this level of quality is maintained, it could be one of the best examples of the genre out there. There are no major complaints with regard to style, grammar, or characters, and the story is reasonably paced with a good mix of action, drama, and exposition.
However, this story appears to be very much a creation of its genre and insofar as it has any issues, that would be were there are found. Specifically, this is an accidental isekai. The protagonist is just here, along for the ride. This makes it somewhat difficult, at least for me, to really hook into this story. It's a common issue with stories of this kind, and it remains to be seen if this one will overcome that. - nifboyRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Splinter Angel is an isekai story with the usual eclectic mix of action, slice-of-fantasy-life, drama, world-building, romance, and making numbers go up. Boy howdy do I like seeing numbers go up.
If that seems like a lot of different modes for one story, you'd be right. There's a lack of focus here that makes the story feel like a grab-bag of shorts at times. While none of its sections are particularly objectionable, there aren't a lot of memorable high points either. The melodrama in particular is not to my taste.
The cast is maybe the best part, a similarly diverse mix of personalities - particular attention is paid to ensuring that the MC is integrating herself into an existing community rather than dealing with a parade of individual characters, which I appreciate. The characters themselves can sometimes seem a little one-note, however.
I don't regret reading Splinter Angel, but I don't know that I'm going to remember it in six months' time. - YulifeyRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Splinter Angel starts with a promising hook: a protagonist who is emotionally detached and highly competent in a harsh, unforgiving world. The grammar and writing quality are consistently excellent throughout, and the fight scenes are genuinely some of the best parts of the story—well-paced, impactful, and clearly written. If you’re here for action, you’ll find it satisfying… at least early on.
Unfortunately, the story loses its footing the further it goes.
The clearest issue is the dramatic shift in tone, character, and genre across the first two books. What begins as a gritty, character-driven story quickly pivots into a romance-heavy narrative that overtakes nearly every other aspect of the plot. This transition doesn’t feel organic—it feels like the story changed authors midway through.
The protagonist, originally defined by her emotional distance and pragmatic coldness, suddenly transforms into someone almost unrecognizable: a relatively well-adjusted, generic hero being awkwardly swept up in a clumsy romance. It doesn’t read as a slow realization or meaningful development—it reads as a full rewrite. It’s jarring and undermines the earlier work that established her as someone different.
The romance itself is poorly executed. The love interest has little substance beyond being clingy, constantly focused on the protagonist, and always emotionally available. As more and more page time is devoted to their relationship, the rest of the cast suffers. Interesting side characters are quietly dropped from the story, and male characters—who were already rare and sidelined from the beginning—remain background noise or vanish entirely. The supporting cast shrinks down to focus almost exclusively on the relationship.
Another odd shift is the protagonist being handed leadership over a group of survivors seemingly just for being willing to kill. It feels unearned and primarily serves to keep her at the narrative center, rather than emerging naturally from the story. This mome
