- BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a single critism about this story. It isn't something that completely ruins it. It is only something that mildly annoyed me while reading the start of this story. It uses 2 instead of two... yes, I am serious. Most fictions never do that, making it a bit hard to adjust. Minor change. Everybody's happy.
Looking past that minor slight, I would say that this is a solid piece of work. Might be a little rough around the edges but whatever. 5/5. Gonna be 6/5 when you change the numbers - D.M. Rhodes (Razzmatazz)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0“Space Lord,” is a fantasy novel, focusing on Theo, an experienced, powerful caster who gets sent back in time to his early childhood after dying on the field of battle against the ‘big bad’ of the story. Theo decides that this time, he’s going to use his knowledge to take the wiser road and to do the things he couldn’t do right the first time around. This novel is clearly influenced by eastern novels, given the type of prose and systems used, whether you like that or not is of course, up to you.
What I always enjoy is when an author puts a glossary at the start of their stories, especially with these sort-of ‘cultivation’ novels that use a lot of web-work involving ranks and masteries. So I was happy to see that here as well.
The story itself has a really strong, heavy hook right in chapter one which really got me. The imagery is strong and while I’m not usually a fan of this type of prose, I found myself still reading on undisturbed by it. Chapter one really sets the mood for this story, there is a lot of fighting and combat, but also heavy, world-changing magic at play to counter the equally deviating threats.
The magic-system itself seems very intricate, so if you like that kind of stuff, I think you’ll enjoy this. Regarding grammar and spelling, I found nothing that screamed ‘wrong’ to me.
The characters are unique and separate from each other. We have the most screen-time with Theo, him being the MC of course, but he seems like a likable enough fellow all in all and it’s interesting watching the contrast between the ‘old experienced veteran’ that he was, now that he’s back in his childhood body and life.
All in all, if you are looking for an action and drama heavy fantasy novel, I think you’ll find something here for you. Please give it a fair shot! =) - Invictus21Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have always been a sucker for good reincarnation stories. And this seems to have all the right components to it. Though I have just started reading it, I have already marked it to my follow list. I have a great feeling about this novel and am gonna read it to the end. Would encourage everyone to give it a try :)
- TurtleKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall - 4.5/5
Story Score 4/5 - The story of this fiction is very slow-paced which is nice, although it often over describes the situations the character find themselves in as well as goes over events that aren't super relevant to the plot of the story. Now, that doesn't mean that this is necessarily a bad thing, oftentimes books contain sections that don't completely move the plot forward. The problem is this too prevalent and causes the reader to feel bored and impatient. Working on your pacing will be essential to improving your story. And by no means is your story terrible, but, personally, by cutting out some of the filler, I think your story can be improved drastically.
Style 5/5 - The premise of the story is interesting. I feel this way about most time-based stories, and the style of writing is solid. With a bit of polish, this is the type of story that has the potential to become very popular.
Grammar 5/5 - The grammar of this story is very good. This is why, I think, with some tweaks to the story's structure, this story has the potential to become very good. I read that this is the author's first story, and I can imagine that whatever he goes about writing next will be something that I want to read, especially if he learns from this first initial story.
Character Score 4/5 - The characters aren't necessarily bad, but they often overexplain the situation they find themselves in. This causes the character to feel not as real as they could be. I would recommend more interjections between characters and less explaining what is going on through their speech. Instead, possibly try to leave some of what they say to the reader's interpretation. - Nameless AuthorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style
The style of writing is reminiscent of a lot of other progression/cultivation novels I have read in the past, which is a plus for getting right into it. Flowery and in-depth description is not the focus of this kind of novel, but the flow of the writing, in general, is very good for what it is.
Grammar
Where the novel, unfortunately, suffers the most. While the chapters are readable, you will most likely find quite a few grammar mistakes and some sentence structuring problems every few lines. The author clearly has a handle on how to write a good progression story, but it's dragged down by a lot of these errors. Some advice I have as someone who is not a native English speaker is to use free grammar checker tools such as Grammarly. They will point some of the most obvious errors to you, and you're bound to learn how to not commit them again in the future.
Story
The premise of the story is standard for a progression novel, with a protagonist who has been reborn into his younger self. That being said, the author lays down an interesting and detailed plot for us to follow with Theo's training in the academy and his life in the noble circle. It might be down to taste, but I have always loved these kinds of stories and every chapter makes a good job of presenting more about the world and moving the plot forward.
CHARACTER
The author writes the protagonist very well and the dialogue with the various other side characters in the story is also a highlight in the chapters. The various interactions between Theo and the people around him are interesting and help keep my attention as a reader in what is happening in the novel. Unlike some other progression stories, the author seems to care about giving personality and life to the characters, which is always a delight to see.
OVERALL
This is the type of novel that I can see myself binging and reading for a long time as a fan of the progression genre. It's nothing you might not have seen before, but the story and characters - Arch SageRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The style.
Omniscient third person narration style. And the author is making a wonderful use of it. We are able to see the world of the merchant prince through the eyes of different characters involved. We experience their feeling and actions in a beautiful way. Well done.
The story.
The story follows Theo who was reborn as a twelve year old after his life was cut short when he faced the restoration emperor. As a lover of epic fantasy, I really enjoyed this novel. A truly captivating story that keeps developing in a brilliant way. A gripping story with a great storyline.
The grammar.
Top quality. No noticeable errors that could affect the flow of the story.
The character.
The characters are one of the strength of this book. They are well thought out and defined. You simply have to love the character of Theo. What a great character :).
Overall: This is a beautiful book to read. It has everything a fantasy lover would want in a book. From the synopsis, which is captivating, to the world building which was well planned, the book didn't disappoint at all. Try it. It's highly recommended by me.
Excellent work. Keep it up, author. - trianman67Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Interesting. It's slow and deliberate. Sort of a jack of all trades, master of none.
Style: The style is basic light novel style, leaning more towards the "novel" than the "light." It's from a third-person limited, so you don't always get to see what's on Theo's mind, and that might make or break the story for people. More of this is in the "Story" section. Also, some details aren't always very specific, and it would be nice to get more "Specific" ideas when it comes to worldbuilding, but that's only every so often.
Grammar: Some grammar could be touched up. That's it. Maybe I would have preferred italics as opposed to single quotation marks for thoughts to make it similar, but that may be just personal preference.
Story: You can always "guess" what he's thinking, but it's as if you're watching his life go by, and like life, things aren't always super "eventful" even when they are. This can make things seem "slow" and "boring" sometimes. Whenever you have "power creep/isekai" like stories, even if there is a large goal to get to overall, there are also smaller goals/antagonists in the meanwhile. In the story, you see the ending threat that the main character has to face, but you don't really know what his "milestones" are, other than learning more magic and whatnot. This can make it feel a little aimless. But the magic system has been designed through and through, so it's impressive and even a little fun to see how the magic systems work. Some people love that. There just isn't the goal to remember.
Character: Characters are likable, although the mc can feel a bit of a "stonewall." He's someone who's curious enough to ask questions, but also knowledgeable enough to be the smartest person in the room at times, and from there, the story may feel like it loses a bit of edge because you never really know how much in the dark the mc is. But there isn't anyone "unlikable." People feel like people, and not "characters," which is nice. And it is fun to see the mc take the t - Blind_WatcherRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I am not sure if the author is a native english speaker or not, but the earlier chapters remind me a great deal of when I used to read translated Xiania. Not a criticism, just something I found interesting and a bit nostalgic.
Style and grammar blend in together as the same pool of general issues from my point of view. The Author is somewhat over descriptive, which can cause issues of repetition or bog down the narrative. This isn't the case all throughout, but it is certainly a problem in the earlier chapters where the author is istablishing themselves and the story as a whole. It is actually one of the things that reminded me of translated xianxia, as it tends to do the same. It does improve as the story goes though, so fixing the problems may just be a case of enacting a minor rewrite to trim the fat.
I really like the premise of reincarnating into the past to save his family. I know it's an incredibly overdone trope, but I still like it. It is popular for a reason damnit! It would have been nice to see some earlier preparations on the MC's part, but it is understandable to a certain extent that his options were jusifiably limitted.
The characters are more or less exactly what you would expect after reading the synopsis. True to the established tropes but in a unique setting. If you are hyper familiar with the subgenre, you probably know what I am talking about. Having said that, I still like the cast of characters and particularly apreciate that the MC seems to genuinely care about his family and isn't just paying lip service for the sake of ticking boxes. It goes a long way to adding to the likeability of the MC.
The overall feelings I am left with after reading all the currently available content, are conflicted. There are mistakes and certainly room for improvement, such as streamlining dialogue descriptions or trimming down the narrative. But I still found a lot to enjoy while reading this story.
I don't think this story is for everyone just yet. However, on - ThousandLeavesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Review swap, up to chapter 20 .
The main difficulty is that I do not like slice of life and this goes heavily in that direction, thus I will rate it somewhere in the middle in order not to push it down too much because of my bias.
Grammar and style are good, there is no need to speak about those two much. At the beginning there is a problem with lorge infodumps, but it improves later on.
Characters and story . .. The start is good, the main character is about to fight an uphill battle against his main enemy, but the fight simply does not start. The whole thing just kind of rolls back and forth with many descriptions. We are told many things expecting to need them in the MC's struggle shortly, but in the end we actually don't.
The MC himself does not give an impression to be interested in his plot, just exploring magic with no clear goals in mind. When I look at the MC in later chapters, I do not believe he is the same character from the first two chapters.
I would try to recommend something, but I do not know the direction where the author wants to go with the story, for me this story is too slow and lacks direction, but it may be how the targetted audience of the author likes it. - UnderloadRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0We have three years of school to get through. Theo might skip school after a year, maybe not. And he might go learn in a better place, but he'll surely be doing something.
For a first fiction, it's not bad. Most importantly, the story moves. At least the character isn't spending his day in limbo thinking about things.
Style and Grammer: The style is simple and stable. It doesn't change for better or worse. The author picked a pace and he's sticking with it. I know it's a difficult thing to do because it personally took me a long time to understand. Don't expect complicated expressions and convoluted descriptions. Not everything is described, but the author has done a fine job nonetheless.
The grammar on the other hand can definitely see some work.
Story: The prologue tells us our destination, the book is about the mc's progression. The mc goes to school to work on his strengths and to make loyal followers. There is nothing wrong with it, but just like the style, it makes so that the plot is also pretty basic, at last for the first 10 chapters. However, what I like is that there are an actual plot, and subplots. I found three sub-plots. One is about the nobels, the other about the monsters covering the river, and the last is about his childhood friend teresa.
Character: A lot of characters have been introduced in the first ten chapters. most of them were mentioned once, but a few of them managed to leave a lasting effect, like his sister and mother. I'm sure the rest would develop nicely. I hope Leonard will be a complex chapter after 100 chapters and not a shallow and simple follower.
