- Ellen TaylorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great apocalypse litrpg. It ticks all the boxes, while still managing to keep it fresh.
I'll go through each and explain my ranks. The easy is Grammar. I'm really not that big of a stickler on grammar. As long as it isn't glaringly bad and pulls me out of the story, I give five stars. The grammar was fine.
The style was great. Told in third person mostly through the mind of Alex, our main character. I was never confused about where I was reading, and the author did a great job making me feel the suspense of this place. Also, not sure if this is a spoiler, but I'm going to mark it as one anyway,
whatever font for those glitches, those were cool and definitely added to the suspense.
As for the story, it's excellent! I'm actually going to combine my reasoning for both story and character, because I feel like they both are better explained together. I enjoyed reading about it. Alex dies and discovers himself to be in a place that is way deadlier than he can possibly survive. But unlike other litrpg apocalypses I've read, this one actually feels like a struggle. It is clear Alex is in way over his head, but he's determined to survive and use more than his muscle to do it. Though he does admittedly still have some great muscle, he also uses his brains.
Overall, this is a no brainer pick for anyone who wants to read an apocalypse litrpg. - GeoKosinusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I realy can't tell more than I like verry much the story cose of diversity of perspectives, characters and planes of action , I have to sau that I begin to read to conserve the rythm în witch I was read another story and I and up sucked completat în this story ... I have I high-end hopes for The fluture of this adventure ...
- Mr MoreporkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I had planned to give myself a few days to read this but once I started I couldn't stop.
I was immediately invested in the main character. The story of his background painting a picture of who he is and his motivations. Plunging that MC into an overwhelming situation and seeing how he overcomes makes for a fantastic story.
The action is captivating and had my heart racing. The subtle changes in pace giving you a breather before the danger ramps up again. The author does a wonderful job of melding real life martial arts with superhuman abilities, magic, and some very well done litRPG elements.
Beneath the action and character is a deeper mystery that adds another level to the stakes. As I follow along on the journey I find myself trying to piece together the mystery of where the MC is and what the implications are for everyone else on earth.
I will following along with this story. I would wholeheartedly recommend you do too. - ElectrikBlueRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Soul of Blades is a fiction written with palpable passion. While it may require some rework, for my taste, the first few chapters were a captivating read. The initial chapter immediately drew me in, sparking my anticipation for a promising journey. While the story didn't fully meet my expectations, the potential it holds is there.
Style:
The author's skill in describing actions is commendable. The fight scenes are vivid and evocative; you can almost feel each punch and visualise every move. The story's focus on fights is why I rate it so highly -- the style effectively serves its purpose. The use of literary devices further enhances the descriptive imagery, adding to the immersive experience.
The only things that bothered me were the overly detailed descriptions at times and some repetitions, such as the frequent reiteration of character traits, way too often. But this seemed to subside as I kept reading. I'll adjust in the future if need be.
Grammar:
Nothing to note; I encountered no mistakes.
Story:
The story outside of the first chapter seems pretty classic for now. Even for someone not versed in LitRPG. However, some aspects, like the character development and the unfolding of the 'system ', still make you want to keep reading because you feel the potential for a more engaging and unique narrative.
The system didn't make much sense to me; I think it's on purpose because there is still a lot of mystery surrounding it. Or maybe it's because I don't know enough about this genre of stories.
I rate it four as I almost dropped the story at some point because of the drop in rhythm around Chapters 3-4-5. The story dragged for a time and suffered from the repetitions I outlined in "style". But then it picked up again. But those chapters need to be tightened, in my opinion.
Again, I might change the rating as I keep reading.
Characters:
Alex is interesting, especially in the very first chapter. He sometimes thinks in ways that make him feel more like he wants to convince - GeneralTree51Royal Road★★★★ 3.5Good story, but too many really short chapters during action scenes and too many interludes as well. Feels like the author is desperate to extend scenes into multiple chapters. Really pulled me out of immersion. Some of the characters are pretty 2 d, but the author will also go into deep dives of enemies during fights. Bit of a weird balance.
