- Lucian T. EinarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
"Soul of Blades: The Transmigrated SwordMaster" by Godlyskeleton offers an engaging and action-packed LitRPG experience that is sure to captivate fans of the genre. With a strong lead character, Alex, at the helm, readers are taken on a thrilling journey through a fantastical world filled with mysteries and challenges.
Style:
The author showcases a solid command of English, delivering well-written and action-packed scenes throughout the story. While the prose is engaging, a suggestion is made to include more introspective moments to add depth to the narrative and character development.
Story:
The narrative unfolds seamlessly, blending elements of LitRPG, action, and fantasy to create a compelling tale of survival and growth. The gradual implementation of stat-heavy elements and the introduction of intriguing mobs and quests keep the story engaging and worth following.
Grammar:
The author demonstrates a strong grasp of grammar, with only minor typos that do not detract from the overall reading experience. The text flows smoothly, enhancing the immersive quality of the story.
Character:
Alex shines as a formidable and relatable protagonist, drawing readers in with his combat prowess and introspective musings. While he is undeniably a badass, there is room for further exploration of his psychology to add depth to his character development.
In summary, "Soul of Blades: The Transmigrated SwordMaster" is a standout addition to the LitRPG genre, offering a thrilling and well-crafted adventure that will keep readers eagerly turning the pages. - SkarabraeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: While there is a slight lack of literary devices, the style is really good apart from that. The author's word choices complement the story incredibly well, it sets just the right tone for it, and the author has a unique way of writing. It is incredibly good.
Story: The story develops exactly as it needs to and at just the right place. It is an Isekai, and it is full of action. The story also is a LITrpg with the MC getting stats and upgrading them with levels. If you like a lot of action and LITrpgs, this is the right story for you. It'll probably slow down sooner or later as the MC encounters other people, but that's to be expected of pretty much any story. As is, the story does what it does incredibly well.
Grammar: I couldn't find any grammatical errors. If there are any, they were minor enough that they didn't interfere with the story.
Character: At the point in the story I read, the MC is the only character aside from monsters. He is honestly very well-developed. You get a great insight into him and his personality by reading this. He has some unrealistic personality elements, but he is incredibly realistic for the most part. He is also a three-dimensional character with a number of aspects to his personality. - CodexClericRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Great story so far . I like the fact that the main character has past exp with the path he is going for. The sword and need to improve while going for the new universe. Can't wait to see where this will go. The beginning chapters have a great hook for getting the reader interested and invested in the story
- One Way JusticeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Yup, there could be only one title for this review: Alex is a badass.
He is thrust into a strange world after an untimely and unfair death. What does he do, panic? No, he grinds mobs. Gets them stats. Gets nice and stacked. Seeks out danger and then more danger to test himself. Does he have psychological problems? Undoubtedly. Is he a badass? F yes.
Overall score is 4.5/5 in the generous royal road rating system. This is good/great classic LitRPG action, with a well-designed system and enticing mobs (alpha wolf!) and quests.
The style score is 4.5/5. This is a well-written and action-packed story. The prose is good, although I would prefer to see more introspective moments (elaborated under Character score); these sorts of contemplative moments tend to lend themselves to philosophical/psychological explorations of the character and his/her surroundings, which can lead to nice-sounding and profound prose that adds to the style. It's a minor gripe, and probably just one of my idiosyncracies.
Grammar: 5/5 Good... occasional typo maybe but that happens. The author has a solid command of literary English.
Story: 4.5/5 Alex is a grindlord and we love to see it. Very nice and gradual implementation of the stat-heavy side that is part and parcel to the LitRPG genre. The action remains compelling throughout the chapters I have read (up to 7 atm of review). Worth reading for sure!
Character: 5/5. Alex is (have I mentioned this!?) a badass. But he could do with some introspection here and there, not just combat-analytical musings (which he is admittedly a savant at). So a bit more attention to Alex' psychology would do him some good.
In summary: Soul of Blades (...) is a very fine addition to the royal road fiction library. Every LitRPG fan should seriously consider picking it up. - RevanchisteRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I like the MC. Can be a bit hyper-focused and miss obvious stuff sometimes. Power system might need a bit more fleshing out to tie everything together. The pacing is a little slow but i hope it all pays off in the end. Great story all in all. Would definitely recommend to anyone
- AGWriterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5(This is a review swap but it’s still a honest review)
Overall:
The story has done a great job introducing the MC through his actions and thoughts. We get to see the night of his passing and what awaited him in the new world. The first chapter was slow and dull compared to the four chapters that came after. The pacing picked up with plenty of action in the next three chapters before the reader gets a breather in chapter 5. It’s a very fun adventure and I would recommend people to give the story a try. Go past chapter 1 if you have to because I felt that chapter was arguably the weakest of the five chapters I read.
Style:
The new world feels very interesting. The XP gained by the MC in chapter 4 was from kills mostly performed by a Venus Flytrap like creature. If one can be credited with kills through others doing the actual killing, I can see the story develop in ways where using others is more effective and keeps one’s hands clean without sacrificing the rewards. When mechanics make use of things like this, it does feel like there’s a lot of potential as to how future combat or kills can come about.
We also get to see the debate of the MC between what stats to improve in chapter 5. This debate isn’t boring and does highlight how the MC, with his experiences and observations, may come to a conclusion. This also gives the reader an idea of what the stats do without just descriptions straight up saying what the stats boost.
Story:
The action in the first chapter could’ve taken place earlier as we can be introduced straight into the fight between MC and muggers from the first paragraph. Leaving it near the end of the chapter feels like a lost opportunity to hook readers, especially those who want to get a taste of what combat is offered by the story. Then, there’s also the lengthy world building aspect. It feels like the chapter is trying to pack a lot of things that can be better sprinkled in later. For instance, a training session later may remind him of his stifled - Adrian CassiusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style:
There are some witty lines here and there. For example, "He didn't think he'd be able to live with the embarrassment. Or die with it, for that matter."
The descriptions are good and utilize the senses well, but there is a fair bit of repetitiveness in the descriptions.
The vocabulary is by no means lacking, but it didn't make me look any words up. This can be a positive or negative, depending on what you want from a novel.
Characters:
Alex is a fun protagonist. He comes off as obsessed, arrogant, and slightly humorous. Now, that may not sound like a good thing, but I think it leaves room for character development. I also happen to share his obsession with combat sports, so that may be (absolutely is) a factor in my positive opinion of him.
It's also intriguing how a character who has previously in his life just practiced and hasn't had many feats is thrown into a world where feats mean everything. It's a really good dynamic between character and world, in my opinion.
The main character's musings in Chapter 5 about the system add depth to his character and show the planning that has gone into different aspects of the world.
Grammar:
The grammar is sound for the most part. Though there are some peculiar errors with capital letters (no capitalization at the beginning of a sentence) and spelling (including misspelling of words such as weird), as well as faulty usage of punctuation here and there.
The author also seems to write in UK English, using the letter s instead of the letter z in words like realize, as well as not using the Oxford comma. That's wholly irrelevant, though, when it comes to reviewing a book. I just felt like writing it here because I have nothing better to do with my life.
Story:
The story isn't anything revolutionary, but it isn't unoriginal either. For example, I'd never had the experience of reading an exposition dump about martial arts at the beginning of a story before I read Soul of Blades. That's not to say it was bad. I actually enjoy - TheJournalistRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have only read up to chapter 5 so far but even with just this much I can see potential oozing from this story. As it's not only captivating but also leaves you nervous and at the edge of your seat due to how well-written the fights are.
From what I could tell the grammar was absolutely impeccable, and if I were to have any issues with it it'd be just that.
The story is very immersive as it follows a Sword's Master journey in another world after dying an untimely death. The details and the depth the author goes into when it comes to both fight and sword philosophy with all of its accompanying features is commendable and will surely be appreciated by a lot of people.
I think the best thing about this novel is how the character is both introduced and portrayed that makes you immediately become interested in seeing what he will be up to next, especially in such a dangerous alien world.
Overall, I think a lot of people will love reading this, especially those who love fighting scenes and seeing numbers go up up. Anyway, I do recommend it so do give it a try! - SomeRandomBirdRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The new fiction is definitely good but I prefered the previous version. Right now I'm wondering if it will still follow the original storyline but with the new characters or go in a completely new direction? ARRRRRGHGHGHGHH wait still not 50 words long yet? honk honk honk honk honk honk honk honk honk honk honk honk honk
- Sorejack.Royal Road★★★★ 3.5sadly this story falls into the trap many authors make in creating competent characters and making them do incompetent things.
this story starts well, its characters are enticing, and the premise is good, yet issues that hammer against the suspention of disbelief hammer at it, shaking lose the details you can see the rails beneath the gravel. the author seems to have an image in their mind they wish to get out regardless of how recklessly he gets there. there is nothing iherently wrong with wanting to write these epic scenes, the question is how do you get them there, and thats where things can fall flat. at times the author can neglect the trees for the forest, and that isnt bad at first those deails pile up on each other to drag the reader away. like having a backdrop in a movie scene that keeps changing every scene, or if characters had an inexplicable wardrobe change mid conversation, it's throws you out of the story into the meta, and that is harming this otherwise excellent story.
