Description

Rina shouldn't exist and that's why they killed her.

But, for her, death is just the beginning of her problems...

Turns out her soul is... artificial. And unwelcome in the afterlife. What’s more, the deadly forces seeking to erase her from existence will come after the memory of her, too.

That means everyone she loves and whoever knew her are in danger.

Desperate to change her fate, she chooses to climb the Soul Nexus, a deadly tower world, to find answers and earn the Nexus’ prize: a wish. The stakes? Succeed and live. Fail and be utterly annihilated.

But it’s not all bad… turns out, to aid her in her ascent, she’s granted incredible powers and abilities.

Rina must climb the Soul Nexus and grow strong enough to stop those who seek her death from killing those she loves… but also strong enough to find those who made her soul and ‘thank’ them for what they’ve created.

For fans of Isekai, weak-to-strong progression, tower climbing, comprehensive world-building, a detailed system, and bone-crunching action…

I’m enjoying the story this far! With its first person storytelling it stands out in the jungle of novels out there.
The depth of the characters also struck me early on. You get a good feel of their different personalities and I’m enjoying reading about their interactions with each other and their foes.
All in all, this is a story well worth reading. It’s well written, intriguing and just a great story!

This is an extremely well written story about the story of a young woman who’s thrust into a world beyond her understanding by godlike beings who see her as nothing more than a tool or a specimen. She must continually push herself to the brink of insanity to protect herself and the few she holds dear, and although she is nearly immortal in body every decision she makes puts another crack in her psyche and unlike most story’s they don’t get healed after she accepts that she made the choice not are they magically mended by the power of friendship. This story will make you cry, laugh, rage, cheer and cry some more and yet as soon as you dry your tears you’ll go straight back to reading. I have read dozens of stories on this site and hundreds more elsewhere and yet this still stands apart as one of the seldom few that I want to forget just so I can read it all over again. The sheer depth given to every main character and the constant acknowledgement that even though people are your enemy you will seldom find someone that can truly be called evil are enough to see this book as great. The tackling of the emotional complexity of trying to stay humane and good in a world that will torture, torment and maim you until you beg for the sweet release of death then tell you that it’s not done with you is magnificently planed and executed down to the last sentence. TLDR: I really liked how well it was written and pray to whatever god has inspired Black Cats that they will come back and write volume for like they said.
love your work Cats, can’t wait to read whatever it is you write next

So, there is not much to say about this book. Though the main character is female, she doesn't feel like a weak character, and her struggle is well written. The most surprising thing is that it is written in the first person, which is quite something different, but after a while you get used to it and it suits the style of the book. The author writes regularly, and I haven't seen any major grammar or spelling errors. So, good job. Give it a try, it may surprise you. This is one of the few good new light novels that are not just the same generic copy-paste bull****.

A Thrilling Tower Climb with Deep Characters and Solid Progression
Soul Nexus by 13 Pitch Black Cats is a refreshing take on the LitRPG and tower ascension genres. It masterfully combines immersive worldbuilding, engaging character development, and well-executed RPG mechanics, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.
The premise is simple yet compelling—Rina, the protagonist, finds herself in the Soul Nexus, a mysterious tower offering a wish to those who reach the top. But what sets this book apart is how well the world is developed. Each floor of the Nexus presents new challenges, creatures, and factions, keeping the journey unpredictable and exciting. The tower itself feels alive, filled with secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Rina is a strong and well-written lead, neither overpowered nor helpless. Her struggles feel real, and her growth—both in abilities and mindset—is satisfying. Supporting characters like Shadara and Killa add layers to the story, each with their own ambitions and conflicts that intertwine with Rina’s journey. Their relationships evolve naturally, adding emotional depth without slowing down the action.
Unlike some LitRPG stories that rely too heavily on numbers, Soul Nexus strikes a great balance. The augmentation system is unique and well-thought-out, allowing for strategic choices without overwhelming the reader with stats. Combat is intense and well-paced, with each fight pushing the characters to adapt and improve.
The story moves at a steady pace, never feeling rushed or too slow. Each challenge Rina faces feels meaningful, whether it's a brutal fight or a key character moment. The writing is clean and engaging, with well-described action sequences and just enough detail to paint vivid scenes without dragging on.
Soul Nexus is an excellent addition to the LitRPG genre, offering a gripping story, compelling characters, and a well-structured progression system. Whether you’re a longtime fan of LitRPG or new to the genre, this book delive

Okay, so I started this story on a whim when I first created a Royal Road account. I'm glad I did. This is an enjoyable LitRPG that doesn't try to overcomplicate things, but focuses on story and character instead. The story feels well thought out, and the system is very straightforward and easy to understand compared to some others that I've encountered. Definitely recommend.
The author's style leans toward commercial fiction, and the story is told through first-person POV--which, admittedly, I'm partial to.  The plot is original and not just a cookie-cutter isekai. The pacing is solid and doesn't lag for too long in any one place. Action is well described and visceral.
The characters are all well-written and three-dimensional. The MC, Rina, has depth that is apparent from the start. Her goals/ motivations are believable, and her dialogue feels natural. The side characters are also thoughtfully crafted and appear to have their own motivations and backstories.
Grammar is good overall, with very few punctuation errors.  There are some wording/ phrasing hiccups that could be easily fixed to reduce the occassional clunky sentence, but it's not often and not bad enough that it would turn me away from this awesome story.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to continuing on with it.
