Some Other Beginning

Description
If someone built the System, they had to have a reason. They had to have the means. They had to have the insight. They didn't ask your permission before putting that voice in your head, so why where they so confident it was the right thing to do? This is that backstory.
It's a slow-burn apocalypse in a realistic context, with a magic system so carefully defined that it borders on science fiction. It follows a party of adventurers whose very actions and decisions will define the classes, archetypes, skills, and abilities that will be used for all time.
Where are we now:An ethereal, largely untapped form of magical power seeps into world, and its presence destabilizes the more fragile aspects of human civilization. But as the dust settles, an insidiously dangerous effect of this power begins to come to light.
Where we are going:This is a highly non-traditional LitRPG in the sense that nobody gets thrown into a ready-made universe of conveniently structured classes and powerups. Everything must be invented and there has to be a reason. The trappings of LitRPG arrive slowly, evolved out of necessity and assembled piece-by-piece by the very people who need them to survive.

- AlsoJohnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first "system (less) apocalypse had to occur some where, some when. Or perhaps it had to occur each where each when. In any event there is no store of knowledge, best practices and science painfully accumulating, and accelerating across generations. It's only reasonable that an apocalypse acquired concussion can provide context for tool use in the new stone age. I rarely rate a work 5 ✨ before it is at least one volume in. This well written bit of intriguing literature has me wishing 6 stars was an option just a couple of introductory chapters in
- LesaMooRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Interesting premiss and characters so far.
The apocalypse is as „natural“ in the main characters lives as a magic apocalypse can be and the story changes nicely between POVs. The characters are behaving believably for people expecting some kind of apocalypse and are already developed well so far even if the its early in the story.
I also like the writing style.
Looking forward to what is to come. - dan_whoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I get that stories with stat boxes are really popular, but most stories like that don't explore the system itself. Or if they do, it's more about if the system is hostile, benign, broken, etc. I've not seen anyone make a solid attempt at a story explaining the origin of a system, but that's what this story is moving towards.
The introduction of magic and the resulting chaos are presented through the lens of modern tools and understanding. It has a more science fiction feel to it because of that, even as they start to learn what the new changes involve. Overall, this has been a really interesting read and there is a feeling of discovery you just don't get with stories where the system exists. The story definitely gets into the apocalypse aspect of things and has people struggling to get basic necessities while also trying to survive the changes that are happening.
On the criticism side: there are some instances of repetitive exposition from a narrator perspective in some of the early chapters, and occasionally it feels like we spend too much time in one person's head. But these are minor criticisms and mainly in the earlier chapters. The story as a whole is solid and seems really promising.
