- Aaron Sofaer (aka Pastafarian)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Earns all five of its stars many times over.
There's a real dearth of crafting stories out there. Erios delivers this one with impeccable craft, making it one of the few stories that genuinely not only keeps me reading and full of joy but inspires me to write as well. - AcrinoeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: Erios909 boasts a very clean writing style that is extremely well paced, informative, funny, and descriptive. Her writing flows smoothly, not too fast and not too slow. It's a very nice blend of introspection, dialog, and action.
Story: The story starts with some shock and awe of crash landing on an unsurveyed planet. Fortunately our main character has some very advanced technology. Advocates of extremely hard SF might quibble over the amount of power/flexibility of the character’s multi-tool, but the author doesn't abuse it and operates within self defined rules of function that are consistent. The central theme is an addictive resource management, real time strategy, base building theme that requires the survivor to meet the many challenges of an unknown world. Lots of worldbuilding at play here with hints for lots more to come!
Grammar: very clean work overall, I did note a couple minor mistakes, but none were big enough to be bothered by. Most will not notice any.
Character: A very convincing main character, that's easy to sympathize with. She makes mistakes, she has regrets. She has a backstory that's slowly being realized. The only real issue here is lack of support characters to really interact. The aliens and AI assistant are entertaining and amusing but can’t offer a significant counter point to the main character. There are hints that the AI might become more important in the future and I look forward to that evolution!
Overall: This was a welcome binge read, but I can certainly see it working well with scheduled drops. The included art and lore drops were welcome additions, especially as the author has a distinct style that works extremely well to enhance the story line. Bravo! - ChaospatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0At first, it's a survival story with a cheat mode unlocked, but in a good way. She can create basic items with her Survival Tool, but the more complex items that are necessary for her long-term survival are behind a paywall.
And since she doesn't have an internet connection, she can't pay with her money. She manages to unlock some items by selling the information from her discoveries.
But once she managed to jailbreak her AI, she started playing Factorio. After that, the limitations are limited resources and construction times.
In second, it's an RTS with the help of a "professional player", the AI, against blue aliens who use magic. And she tries to ally herself with a group of giant spiders.
The fights are interesting, but there is no great emphasis on the strategic side. Maybe it will be better in the future because there haven't been many big fights yet.
I would like to say that "in third, it's an exploration game", but we have only seen three different environments so far. The generic big city she comes from, a perfectly normal dessert and a jungle habited by four or five species.
Perhaps we'll learn more about the aliens in the future, but for now the world-building elements are this novel's weakness. - Kody1259Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Such a fun and interesting start. A nice mix of survival and base building with some mystery to keep you guessing. I can hardly wait for more chapters. My only complaint is how fast the tech progression is going (military hardware and such) since it makes me worry how long the story will stay a survival challenge.
- Papa LegbaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is great. It is a breath of fresh air to the genre. Good progressing and a main character with a sensible and relatable thought process. I love the fresh take on the system being a paywall. It's a bit more depressing but makes a lot more sense and the tongue in cheek, humourous, whatareyagonnado aspect more than makes up for that. 😄
- Slender Snek1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0it's a sci-fi survival crafting story and it does it pretty damn well. in my personal experience every sci-fi story i've read with crafting elements always skip the small stuff. they mostly list things that are done and hardly ever step into the details of getting it done.
this story will give you hard numbers of resources needed and gathered, the process of actually getting them and rather then just saying a base was set up you get to see all the details of the setup process. it's a real breath of fresh air.
The ai in this story are also a real charmer to read, obedient to the user as a proper personal ai should be but with enough deviance to have their own personalities. and the idea that there are multiple ai with a central manager is neat to see. you are gonna enjoy these lil guys.
While this gives me satisfactory vibes at first i've come to see this is definitely a full world on it's own with sneak peaks at deeper lore and world building. and the way our MC reacts to nature and wildlife tickles my own semi pacifistic heart. love to see an MC with a conscience.
keep up the great work author and have a great read guys, you'll love it - TerebinthRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has been one of my favorite yarns on RR. Mostly because the Main Character is like an amalgam of 2 of my younger sisters, whom I adore. Smart, plucky, persistent, curious, and kindhearted. We always had animals around -- mostly cats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and cows as opposed to (spoiler:) spiders -- but its the principle of gathering useful pets and treating them like members of the family that sticks.
My family are also all suckers for space exploration -- Dad raised us on airplanes and model rockets.
My only major dislike is the high tension between the MC and her family. I hope that gets resolved.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes. - aka_MAXRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"Sigma 16" is an engaging and immersive story that has quickly become one of my favorites on Royal Road (RR). The meticulous attention to military specifications in the equipment and the delightful interactions between Talia and Neo create a well-rounded narrative, balancing detailed realism with humor.
**Detailed Focus on Milspec Equipment:**
The story's attention to military specifications (milspec) provides a sense of authenticity and nostalgia for anyone with a military background. This aspect grounds the narrative, giving it a solid foundation that enhances the overall experience.
**Character Dynamics:**
The relationship between Talia, the adventurous and somewhat spoiled daughter of a CEO, and Neo, her AI companion, adds depth and comedy to the story. Their interactions are a highlight, providing a charming dynamic that keeps the narrative engaging and entertaining.
**Innovative Genre Blending:**
"Sigma 16" stands out in the LitRPG genre by incorporating elements of survival and crafting within an open world. This innovative blend transforms the typical LitRPG experience, adding layers of complexity and freshness. It’s like adding fresh lemon and dill to a simple grilled fish, enhancing the flavor profile.
**Comparisons to Popular Games:**
The story evokes the vibe of playing various popular games. One chapter might feel like "Minecraft" with its resource gathering and base building, another like "Rimworld" with its survival and strategy elements, and yet another like "Spellforce" with its fantasy RPG aspects. This diverse gameplay feel contributes to the story's uniqueness and consistency.
**Engaging Protagonist:**
Talia is a compelling protagonist. Her initial portrayal as a spoiled and irresponsible character makes her growth and adaptation all the more satisfying. Watching her navigate the challenges of the unknown planet and evolve as a person is both fun and rewarding.
**Comedic and Relatable AI Companion:**
Neo, initially reminiscent of ChatGPT, quickly - stadsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0love the over all story and the survivor aspects of it
there is fun banter with the system and the discovery of friend
interesting planet with plenty of mystery and discovery to be had
character growth is fun to see and seeing the mc settle in her roll
tech development follows a fun path with both resource and points so nothing to OP - tomjel45Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is great so far with a strong and unique premise that evoke strong vibes of subnautica and metroid with the lone explorer/survivor aesthetic and while theres not a whole lot there right now it shaping up to be better than ship core with the way things are going though thats only my personal opinion it can't be helped as an avid enjoyer of survival exploration games such as subnautica and metroid prime the story is well written with no particularly glaring flaws in grammar or storytelling and while the chapters feel a bit short there is only nostalgia and enthusiasm as I read.
