- ashewyntrRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Excellent pacing and tone. I'm constantly wanting to know what happens next.
Excellent worldbuilding and character depth. Situations escalate, characters learn and develop.
Author does his research on his science. Grey goo, space elevators. And, of course, consistent when breaking the rules and then staying with those bounds.
I am enjoying it immensely. I highly recommend it. - ElmvreyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has good plot, update speed, and feels thought out.
No grammer issues, No excessive plot armor for the FL, but
she develops with the threat of tragedy, and while some are not temporary, they aren't permanent either, so it does seem like they are killing people off for the sake of
plot.
Nice story, appreciate reading it. very fews stories on RR manage to produce story that feels as well thought out as yours with even half of the same themes\plot points, net alone a story that ties back to proir events without having the plot move like a wheel. Plot placement is good, and new characters are not forgotten, but instead get some screen time dedicated to them, not just purely when interacting with the MC
98/100 overall
10/10 would reccomend - Things4funRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's good to find a fun syfi read. I've enjoyed the character development as the young AI learn lifes basics in the middle of the star nation's conflict. This has not been a hard syfi even though it has touched many future science topics. I'm excited for the upcoming drama and has resparked my interest in futuristic storytelling.
- AaradurRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am someone for whom SciFi tends to b kind of hit-or-miss, and this was a definite hit. In particular, I found the setting to be extremely compelling (and somewhat remniscent of a game called Starsector I used to play).
Another big positive for me was the combat, which really worked into the space angles of distances, different weapon types, missile salvos etc. to be some of the best space combat ive read in a long time. I also always felt like both sides in a given engagement were strategizing competently, which is a big plus.
The pacing of the story I really liked, it is very variable depending on what is going on. Parts are more slow paced, as Alex gets her bearings or focuses on industrializing her base, while others are extremely fast paced strategic combat and warfare. I like that variability a lot, and think it does a lot for immersion, though others might feel differently.
The characters are well written too, not quite as amazing IMO as the other aspects ive mentioned above, but still quite good.
All in all, if you like SciFi stories, especially ones with a lot of strategic combat, then I highly recommend ShipCore. I certainly have enjoyed it so far!
- Goblin_KunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An amazing read - I always smile when i see a new chapter pop up.
I love the characters and their quirks.
The AI generated art is a nice touch to the story line, quite nice to see those pop up.
Can tell the Author puts in good work into this story. - Avid reader TimRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was shocked at how the twists and turn this story has maintained. One chapter you may be starting to lose interest then hooked back in as a new twist comes along. The next thing you know a character from another part of the galaxy is coming into the story with another twist. When the main character and the new one meet you know fireworks are coming. Keep up the creativity and look forward to what else you may come up with. Wonder what type of new ship the main character is going to get. Small sleek and fast or a big brute of a thing.
- precinctomegaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A slow and predictable start gradually acquires pace towards a compelling narrative in an inviting and intriguing universe.
STYLE
The writing style is workmanlike in the best sense. The author knows how to construct a good sentence. It's not flashy or literary but solid and professional.
STORY
The pacing is a challenge at first, but not unjustifiably so. The first arc is very sparse for characters and the mysteries are so dense that the plot - linear as it is at this stage - almost disappears behind the slow burn of world building.
The story picks up rapidly in the second arc as the cast expands and at least some of the mystery of the first arc is stripped away, allowing what remains to fall into the background while an actual plot and several character arcs get started.
GRAMMAR
The author's spelling and grammar are almost flawless and they get a rare five stars from me for the imaginative use of font and colour to good (but not excessive) effect.
CHARACTER
Probably the story's weakest element is the characters. They aren't bad (still rating 3.5!), but they are a bit trope-y... OK, they are a lot trope-y. But they are still extremely likeable despite that and the author does a good job of injecting a real sense of stakes into the plot even when, if you strip away the sci-fi flash (which is, make no mistake, very flashy), it's basically a magical girl fantasy. - callmesteveRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This was a fun story to read. It's definitely on the "soft" side of science fiction, in that it's not particular bothered with hard maths or physics, but that sort of thing isn't really needed either.
Expect a combination of slice-of-life combined with bizarre combat scenarios and harrowing escapes or victories. The main character is a somewhat borked AI that's more human than most, while still able to build high-tech ships out of random scrap in hours. Unfortunately, the other AI are less nice and have had a much longer head start...
My only complaint is that there's not a lot of downtime despite being a relatively slow-paced story. There's usually an unbalanced fight going on somewhere, leading to the reading experience being a bit stressful. - MaxxumusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Obviously most of the content so far is a rough draft of an eventual final product, but I've been obsessed with this story for the past week. It's a boots on ground level of space opera that I'm in love with that plays with a variety of concepts from wider sci fi as a genre. Taking a toolbox of good foundations and building brilliant characters and story elements on top of them.
