Description
Sophie is reborn into Cyberpunk 2077 with a Mercenary System. She must claw her way to the top of the world, becoming a living legend. The Shinigami. Of course, who's to say she can't enjoy it and make some friends along the way.
This fic is inspired by stories like Ghost in the City by Seras, Neon Dragons by LunaWolve and others. None of the characters nor settings are mine, outside of my OC's.

- GuthanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The reviews are far too harsh. They think this is ghost in the city when it clearly isn’t. There is a comedy tag for a reason. The adventure is a fun romp, not an ultra serious SI. I am personally enjoying the story so far.
Author, please keep up the good work and continue writing. Merry Christmas! - EncodedRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I love reading stories like these, like Ghost in the City by Seras this is a happy slice of life with little stakes. A happy go lucky girl that goes though life while having OP powers and influence the characters around her.
The system is mostly here to provide drive to the story via leveling up different classes as other than this the MC does not have an actionable long term goal.
Small nitpick is that I cannot believe any adults would take a 8-10 year old seriously enough to give them any missions of importance. Maybe adding 4 year to the MC would remove this. - MalkirionRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story is getting a lot of negative reviews for what amounts to only 30 chapters written so far. I dislike this as it has a good deal of potential if a few adjustments are made.
Overall, the story is a mix of cyberpunk 2077 with a leveling system that gives character traits that are themed to a class design. The rewards for these quests give rewards to the character that allows them to overcome the significant limitation in that the character starts off at 8 years old.
Pros
- The system gives potential for continued advancement of the character to keep things interesting
- The author has done well so far in establishing relationships with several characters that keep the story moving forward.
- Framework and world development have proceeded fairly well
- Has potential and no flaws made so far can't be adjusted to fix the story
Cons
- Rewards from the system are a bit bonkers at start and give some significant cheats that have made difficulty trivial at times
- The author went a route of having the character have no background. This has stalled the introduction of new characters (MC doesn't have a brother with Tyger Claw ties or a friend with Corpo ties like in Ghost in the Shell) and the MC needs to develop a lot more new characters to keep the story alive.
- Author has relied a bit too much on the system to keep things going forward rather than have the character make new relationships
- As other reviews have mentioned. The story lacks tension.
- Author is a bit plot focused instead of character focused. Character personalities are morphing a bit to fit the MC's needs rather than following their own mentalities and personalities.
Recommendations
If I could speak to the author, I'd have them start to introduce new characters asap. Also, think more about how the characters you introduce from the original Cyberpunk 2077 would act rather than having them foil the MC too much. Think through what personalities and attitudes your character have and have them follow th - MrNoodleRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story is fine. The grammar is great, the flow of the story is okay.
The MC is 8yo to start with, however it doesn't really feel like it as everyone is fine just hiring her for thiefing/assasinations. Vik doesn't really say anything about installing chrome onto her, even if normally in lore that is a massive big no no, so much so that even corpos don't do that (publicly).
The system is underutilized and over relied on at the same time. The base set for the system is interesting, reminding me of Remnant's class system, but MC speeds through the jobs and skills so fast that it all feels irrelevant and disjointed. A lot of times you can see that the author has a vision of the future of what they want for the character, but then just speed through the why the character wants something with no stopping to think of other options. Like MC creating some chrome and the MC goes straight to what they want even after being told they will not be able to use it, not stopping to think of other options that they might be able to actually use.
So, again, the story is fine. It's not a masterpiece, but enjoyable enough to read. - Davey daveRoyal Road★★★ 3.0At first I was excited as I have enjoyed "Ghost in the City by Seras" and "Neon Dragons by LunaWolve" the two main aledged influences in the description.
Do not go into this thinking the system elements will be like those, well balanced and their to facilitate a nobody to being useful.
It is far more alike to corpo age, where it is far similar to a power fantasy set in a cyberpunk world. Nothing wrong with that if that is all you want, but it doesn't seem to have any stakes that aren't artificial really.
In the first few chapters she gets. A system(fair enough the premise), the ability to be invisible to tech, ability to aquire a legendary/perfect cyberware piece of her choice. - morde24Royal Road★★★ 2.5Interesting idea. Takes inspiration from great places.
Absolutely absurd carry over. MC becomes almost instantly OP and anything that happens is clearly driven by some act of God as opposed to in universe events.
My recommendation to the author is to sit down and flesh out the universe around the MC, and then how the MC might interact with a couple key people and see how the story develops from there. Maybe someone thinks it's ludicrous for an 8 year old to be doing merc shit and so the MC now needs to prove themselves. Etc. find some in story motivation for things to happen because right now there is no plot, it's just a bunch of random disconnected things happening. - TheSandsOfDeceptionRoyal Road★★ 2.0Something that I think about sometimes is that conflict drives.a lot of storylines. Whether it's war, an apocalypse, a bunch of loose dinosaurs or your boss being angry about you and your buddy getting stoned and eating the pizzas you were meant to deliver, something is usually going deeply wrong.to give the cast of the story a nudge towards adventure.
The grammar and style here are alright. Nothing stuck out as particularly good or bad, and that's enough said about that - nothing to justify a (charitable) two stars. The issue is that the story gives the characters absolutely no opportunity to grow. This is not a story where a rising hero has to overcome adversity in new ways to save the day. It is not a story where an aspiring villain has to outwit do-gooders to enact their doomsday plan. Absolutely nothing is going wrong in this story. In every situation, the main character is effectively handed a nuke and told to go hunting for rabbits; they do not need to be particularly good or remarkable or interesting to kill the rabbits, the rabbits just die.
A main character's life generally sucks. Think of all of your most loved series, and their main characters: Frodo was heavily traumatised by the time the ring was destroyed, Luke Skywalker had an arm cut off, and Harry Potter went through hell to finish school. This story is a notable exception, in that the main character's life is objectively awesome, and any conflict that arises is quickly solved by sheer dint of how awesome the main character's life is. All.setbacks are very temporary, and all triumphs are permanent
If that floats your boat then this is the story for you. Otherwise, it gets old somewhere around 10 chapters in.
