- silsurfrRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sara King jumps Right Into The Story. The depth of the world she creates is, Mind Blowing!! I am Always finding new meaning to all of her books. If you start into her worlds.... hold onto your preconceptions of what you Think you might like to read and let her show you something different.
- BeritahnayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read some of your other amazing reviews, and the words your readers use to describe your works and the places you take them are genius and portray exactly how I feel during and after reading what you share. Unfortunately, I don't have the same way with words, but just know, this is AMAZING! The way the story is introduced, the original elements and how it ties together...I'm in awe, as usual. I cannot wait to see where this story takes us!!
- ChaosKerriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The tale is wonderfully complex, the magic is very intriguing as we are beginning to understand it as it unfolds. The rough go some of these characters are struggling through so far is relatable albeit dark, yet there are light and funny bits along the way that provide balance while deepening our understanding of them.
The added artwork is wonderful and well done in that it is eerily close to my imagination version as I read the chapters, which not only says something about the artist, but the author's ability to tell a rich and vivid story.
I'm greatly enjoying the threads of this world being dispersed in careful measures, each eventually beginning to cross and intertwine. It forces me to slow down and savor things, even as my reading speed tries to increase because I desperately want to know "…and then what happened?". My mind is storing away the nuggets of information as they are dished out along the way, in well-timed intervals, like little "aha moments", it's wonderful and very engaging.
The various characters are all developing and gaining such depth as each chapter progresses, my empathy and rage at times is palpable. I am invested wholeheartedly in them, wanting the ones I love to prevail so badly, and the villains to not only be thwarted, but have their justice be public, epic, and gloriously befitting of their sins.
It is SO refreshing that this story doesn't dump paragraphs of narrative backstory and useless/tedious descriptions of the environment. Only things relative to moving the story forward are included, no silly summarizations in here!
The majority of the story so far is quite polished, with minimal issues that distract from the telling. - ComtutorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the deep character-driven writing. The new name is much better too. Ewwww - sippers! I'm also really hating on Laelia for Aneirin's death. I'm hoping for Saebrya to save Ryan and for them to hook up with Maelys and the fire drake to ... bring back the balance of/Ganlin's power. I can't wait to read the finished work!
- DarkSpaglesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story flows nicely between chapters, even with the frequent changes in characters. It's like it gives you a puzzle piece in each chapter to gradually help you piece together the world they are building. I imagine this will be at the top of the rising stars unless they burn themselves out or something unexpected happens. If you are looking for a new story to delve into, instead of the no-brain reading that most of us end up doing, I suggest picking this one up!
- DraukuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is so good that I wanted to make sure and write a review so it is higher on the trending list.
Update as of Chapter 46 below.
A seemingly complex soft-magic system, characters with varied and interwoven histories, terrain that still has stories to divulge. This book so far has it all, and is grammatically well written to boot.
One of the best parts of the writing style is a propensity to SHOW instead of TELL. This is a massive breath of fresh air in the incredibly stale dungeon that contains most RR stories.
As long as you can palate a bit of a dark story that does not shy away from character death, give this world a shot. You will not be disappointed.
UPDATE:
I almost dropped this after reading half way through chapter 46. If you get there and there has not been a revision, you'll probably understand why.
Thankfully the author is quite receptive to feedback. See the ch46 comments thread for more details on the why. - ElentravitraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am totally enjoying this story. I love stories that have my brain trying to figure things out, see where things are heading.....let me become immersed in another world. Lol, hating the end of each chapter because it means I have to leave the world she's weaving me, to deal with poking the button for the next chapter! I don't want to leave the story that long! So if you have time to loose yourself, this is a good story to loose yourself in.
- HunterccRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As of this writing I've only completed 16 chapters, but I can't get enough. I've been hooked since the first chapter and can't wait to see what happens next. I get a strong feeling that the Wheel of Time has mixed with Game of Thrones, and we get this fascinating story that I have to force myself to stop reading so I can function in society. Maybe I can catch up this weekend!
- Joshua2415Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sara King amazes me. She really does. Each and every world she's created in her various books have leapt off the pages and simulataneously slapped and hugged me. Her characters are intriguing. Her plotting is effortless and smooth. I don't know how all of these worlds and characters live together in her brain. And now she has forged ahead into old school fantasy. Bring it on! I can't get enough. This book gripped me from the first page and never let go. Highly recommended!
- KaarianeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The characters are interesting. The more I learn about them, the more I want to know.
The magic system is new and different. It's not just more of the same old fantasy tripe rehashed.
In fact the only thing I don't like about this story is that I have to wait for the next chapter to come out :P
