Description
So my name is Neesha, or rather Princess NeeshaAstrites Panval Helenides of Trieste, and I am not happy...
Neesha is the archetypal spare - the youngest princess of a backwater kingdom being shipped off to marry some creepy old man, but when her carriage crashes and she miracuously survives she sees an out - in the melting pot city of Malin - and resolves to quit royal life and see if she can make her fortune, or at least a living...
Of course then she's attacked by bandits...
Secret Abdication is a LitRPG fantasy adventure I'm writing for writathon. It's based on an idea I've had for a while so hopefully I can keep up the pace!! There will be archery, sword fumbling, systems, murder most foul, doubles, levelling, cynical middle aged men who think they are old men, well meaning older brothers, classes, amused older sisters, carpentry, doubles, cross-dressing, dramatic reveals, doubles, romance and silly songs and more doubles.
Timing is both good and bad - I'm off to hospital tomorrow so have a day to write as much as I can and then there will be a break but then I have all that boring recovery time off work to try and motor through some more!
Chapters will be about 2500 words in length (if you've read my other work you'll know that for me this will be a challenge in itself!) and posted as I write them during writathon...after that we'll see!

- AsorasoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Neesha is a princess. To bad that she realy does not like the hole princess thing. So when she is at one point on the road her carredge is ambushed and falls down the clips.
Presumed dead, Neesha the adventurer takes the opirtunity and travels as Neesh to a City where the guard is in the process to pick recrutes.
A wonderfull writen story with good MC that is not the next powerfantasy but has charakter.
I can only recomend this story.
Sadly here the review/tribute takes a sad turn. The author has cancer, the bad one. He continued to write while getting the treatmend. Sadly it did not work as intended and he couldnt continue. He wrote a last chapter to give a overview where the story would have gone, but he could not finish his story.
So if you dont like to read unfinished storys think twice if you want to start (it is defnetly worth it.).
So finaly a shoutout to massivebacktrack if you are still alive I wish you a relative plesent and painless time with your family and if you died then rest in piece. In any case thank you again for your wonderfull story and your determination to write on even when you were in bad health. I loved your story and would have gladly read more of it. - Dead NettleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Started this story somepoint this morening at reached its most updated post by the evening. Therefore my biggest warning be that you should be prepared to be dragged into the story world, finding yourself procrastination (not a bad thing).
This story is a gem to read, combining two fun genre's that I struggle to find together but enjoy equally. It has decisions being made by the main charcter that lead to understandable consqences. In the event where the consquence's are lessened, the author has managed to make it believeable by either explaining it in the narative (without breaking charicter) or by ahving the story occur in a style where it would be unresonable to expect such things to be seen (yet).
This helps to create stakes in the story, often without them feeling forced out.
With all of this said, I can easily say that this has become a story that I am truly looking forward to seeing progress, and will be looking forward to the uploads. I feel like this story has huge potential and will likely become popular if given enough time, and support. This being said, I also have seen how stories of this quality can lead to authors burning out or being pressured. So on the of chance the author reads this (or even gets this far) I would like to say, thanks for the story, and please look after yourself, even if you stop right now it was well worth it for me.
...............WARNING SPOILER........
In regards to the stakes I especially enjoy how its gone and shown how the charicters initally decision to leave her life as a royal has not only affected herself and her home, but also how it has affected the city state she has moved to, her new bosses, and her now ex fiance. This is an area I am hoping will be expaneded upon, especially how this has affected her home country and family (I feel these groups could show more of a reaction to her "death" but I also understand that her family still believe she could be alive, so wont yet put out a national announcement of death) bu - either_wayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was an amazing story which I loved. The character was extremely likeable, and the writing style was interesting. The story is told mainly from the MC's perspective, as they fight to find their place in the world.
The book ends in a Q and A session. That being said, although it ends prematurely it is still worth the read, with the Q/A clearing up any lingering questions. It is unfortunate that the story will never be finished, and I give my condolences if you knew them. Cancer is cruel. - luda305Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is great. Some plot elements similar to Mulan set on a western fantasy LitRPG. With some light elements of YA coming of age. It's well written and catchy. Not to cringe and hilariously funny at times. I'm not really sure where it's going, but it'll be a good ride. Can't wait for the sausage jokes.
- tyniultraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this book as its plot is pretty simple but can definitly go somewhere and the main character is nice. so far it has been super entertaining and I havent had any problems with the spelling/grammar. I really like the slice of life parts and the author is good at writing fights. I hope the auther continues working on it!
- OdunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm surprised this story hasn't gotten more of a following. It's quite excellent, with a likable noble child, who doesn't want to be a noble, and manages to, at least for now, escape her fate. The world building to date has been very well done, the "system" is fair and developed, but doesn't seem like it will be overly complicated, and doesn't see excessive posting by the author to eat up space / word count. If anyting, I could go for a little more of it, but what has been shown is appropriate for the story to date.
I don't write many of these, so doubt I'm doing the story justice, but the MC is easy to root for, and there are a cast of secondary characters that are slowly being developed that I can get behind as well. There are no true mages in our MC's orbit at this time, so the focus is more on skills, but expect we'll get there in time. - Zoro50Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you've got luck, you've got everything.
The Good: The System in this LitTPG is relatively unobtrusive and slightly different than others I have tried. Skill checks are described and I have enjoyed seeing this mechanic in action more than I expected. It really describes how MC plot armor works and somehow makes it interesting. Neesh as a character is also not annoyingly pushing her morals and simply lives in her world as best she can. Malin is also a great setting and I have really appreciated that the story so far has been centered there, giving us a chance to get to know it.
The Bad: Neesh's rapid ascendancy in reputation can overshadow the normal gain of skills and progress.
All in all it's a fun ride and I intend to ride it all the way to the end! - FastFoodNationRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Hate being a princess, I feel you. The Tao teaches that in every bad thing that happens to you, there can be a good thing. This is certainly what happens to our main character, who will have to be strong, to make it through the trials of live.
Characters feel lively, worldbuilding feels fleshed out and adventure guaranteed from what I can see. Fighting feels raw and relistic so far. The pace is probably the best part of the story, neither too fast or slowing down. Nothing bad stand out, a fine piece of story. Thx for the hard work! - KoboldPatrolRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a story about a tomboyish princess who uses her presumed death in an accident to start a new life without an arranged marriage. Neesha disguises herself as a boy and goes to a big city in a different country. There Neesh finds an interesting job, meets friends and has adventures.
The story is very well written with a good storyline and nice characters. The events that play out are usually not something unexpected for somebody who has read many stories, but that's not a bad thing. The worldbuilding is good and all those well-fleshed-out characters act in plausible ways like real people. The interaction between the MC and her friends and comrades are both friendly and believable. Some long sentences could be broken up bit and there are a few typos, but everything is easy to read and it captivated me instantly. The pacing is fine. How some scenes turn out could strain a reader's suspension of disbelief, but since the MC has an unusually high luck score, it still fits. About that luck score, yes, this is a LitRPG story, with skills and stat boxes, as well as the outcome of skill check rolls, but that is secondary to the prose. While devouring the chapters, I was just happy to follow the MC as she grew both in skill and reputation and had exciting experiences.
The really bad part of this story, outright horrible in fact, is that the author has been fighting cancer for a while and has a much lower luck score than the MC. This means that there will be no further chapters and we will not be able to accompany Neesh(a) on the way to save the country any more. @massivebacktrack: We readers thank you for making us happy while it lasted. We wish you a happy remaining time without suffering, and we will miss you - Uncle RetRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I find this story entertaining and engaging. Unlike so many stories where I either don't like the protagonist or eventually lose interest in them, the storytelling has kept me wanting to know what happens with Neesh(a) next. For that, I'm giving it 4 1/2 stars.
The half-star being deducted is due to some aspects of the story stretching beyond what I consider believable. Some of my doubts could be unfounded if some of the things I believe have been hinted at develop further in the story.
