- DBoddenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed what I've read so far, and I'm going to keep reading. I think most of the horror stories I've read have been about normal people in bad situations, and about giving the reader the opportunity to face their fears in a safe way.
This felt different. The characters are changed in was that are reminiscent of Lovecraftian horror, but the change isn't as grotesque. It's more of an uncanny valley than a B-movie monster, like if in Mimic we thought the man in the trenchcoat is a giant cockroach but instead turned out to be a misguided accountant who listened to the wrong music and became a cannibal.
Each chapter is a self-contained story. The feel of them is quietly tense, and they always accelerate exponentially right up until the end, but it's a smooth increase, so that you almost miss it until you're fully submerged. Well done. - Orion DuskRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is quite a good read if you're looking for some fast paced, light horror. Each chapter is a self-contained story. Because of their fast pace, they don't bring on full on terror or dread. There's just not enough time provided for that kind of build up. Rather, the horror developed is an uncanny and unsettling feeling. And that's why I call it light horror.
There is a tremendous variety provided in this anthology. Some of the horror comes from virtual reality scenarios which calls you to question variety. Other stories delve into the dark potential of robots, medicine research gone bad, discoveries which should have been left untouched, etc.
I do hope the anthology continues, and will keep reading.
