ok so i’m all caught up to chapter 6 and GUYS. THIS STORY IS DESTROYING ME EMOTIONALLY. in the best way possible. going back to chapter 1 now?? hits like a truck. the awkward lil beginning where Theo can barely talk and Dani’s just this scary eyeliner goblin?? yeah now i know too much and i cry over all of them.
first off, LUCA. my man. i love how he’s so chill and jokey in the first chapter, and then later we find out about his chronic pain and how he writes 20k word fanfic while using crutches like it’s nothing?? absolute legend. chapter 5 with lyric and him was sooo cute 😭
and don’t even get me started on Dani’s flashback in chapter 3. the dnd fight scene?? the yelling?? her parents?? i genuinely had to close my phone and breathe. the way her ā€œi don’t careā€ attitude in chapter 1 is actually armor? yeah. i’m emotionally unwell.
also Haylie’s dream sequences are eating me alive. the one in chapter 2 where the dani was like so mean?? why are you like this 😭 she acts so calm but you can feel the fear under the surface and it makes her whole ā€œmom friendā€ thing even sadder. and then when she was all scared of dani in chapter 5
chapter 1 was just the start of all the chaos and friendship and hidden pain and spoon cult nonsense. 5 stars easy. i would tattoo this story on my soul.

This story is so fun to read, and I was hooked from the first chapter. The writing style is clear and engaging, making it easy to follow along, but it also has a lot of personality. The characters are well-developed, and their interactions with each other feel natural and real. There’s a lot of humor throughout, which makes it even more enjoyable to read, and the dialogue feels authentic for a group of teenagers.
The grammar is solid, with very few mistakes, which keeps the flow of the story smooth and uninterrupted. It’s easy to get lost in the world of the characters without being distracted by poor writing or confusing sentences.
The characters are definitely the highlight of the story. All the characters and they depict different struggles pretty well. Like Theo with his social anxiety, Luca's insecurities and chronic pain, Dani's PTSD?, Lyric's OCD, Aspen's cute little nerdiness but also having a lot of depth with his father's situation and stuff, as well as Haylie's anxiety and her determination.
The plot itself is fun and unpredictable. The mixture of D&D elements with real-life struggles and friendships makes it stand out. There are emotional moments, though sometimes I felt like they could have been expanded upon for more impact. Despite that, the overall pacing is great.
In conclusion, this is a really fun read with fantastic characters and a well-written plot. I would definitely recommend it! 4.5 stars.
