Saga of the Reborn Demon King

Description
In the pathetic last moments of the Demon King Malachi’s life, there was only one word he could use to describe his life: regretful. In his death, he left behind him a life devoid of happiness, a world ravaged by the pointless war he waged and the demons he ruled over despised as enemies by every other race on the continent of Nicaea.
Centuries later, in a small, unassuming village in the demonlands, Luqa, a half-demon, is born to a human mother. Very soon, he realizes that this is not his first life.
In this new era, on a continent still scarred by the Great Demon War of the past, the saga of new heroes unfolds, centering on Luqa, who inherits the knowledge and wishes of his past self — of Demon King Malachi — to fix the world he ruined and to live a life without regret.
Saga of the Reborn Demon King is an epic/progression fantasy, with a heavy focus on the characters and their development, especially the main character, as well as having a large fantasy world with different cultures.

- AJ FluffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Saga of the Reborn Demon King is just that: the story of a Demon King reborn as a half-human-half-demon boy... who has no memory of his previous life. He's always been more aware than other kids, but slowly, bits and pieces of his life as the Demon King start coming back to him. During that time, though, he lives his new life. He lives with his mother, meets friends, and learns magic. And it's all so domestic and sweet, but there's so much hidden tension and compelling mysteries lurking just beyond this happy bubble.
Luqa is a reborn Demon King, not that he knows that (just yet). He's precocious and a bit of prodigy, but he's not the only one, which balances out. He's also a half-demon, but (again) not the only one. Lucia is the stuff of my nightmares and I will bow before her, my Half-Demon Queen XD We've also got on older boy, Var (I cannot remember the long name, I'm sorry) who's an ambitious young swordsman hoping to get out into the wide world someday soon.
The style isn't quite to my taste (a bit too repetative sentence structure), but the descriptions are amazing. Vivid and emotional imagery abound here!
Grammar's fine. I didn't notice it really, which is how it should be.
This is a fascinating exploration of the reborn trope. I liked that, while Luqa has a certain awareness to his existence that hints at rebirth, he doesn't immediately remember his past life. This allows him to be a kid, if a precocious one. :P - DischtopiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Malachi, an oddly nice and sympathetic demon lord, dies on the floor one day and comes back 300 years later as an uber smart baby named Luqa.
Style: The style of Saga of the Reborn Demon King is reminiscent of classic pulp fantasy. The prose is smooth and effective, and clarity is prioritized over grandiose stylistic flourishes and complex sentence structure.
This is to the story's credit, because it keeps the plot moving quickly without anything to get in the way of readability.
Story: Undoubtedly the story's greatest strength. The premise of an ancient demon lord reincarnating as a boy with all his intelligence intact is endlessly appealing, and the author keeps interest high by aging him up quickly and leading into a well-written training mini-arc. The boy advances quickly, tempting readers to wonder just what the future has in store for young Luqa.
Grammar: A few minor issues here and there, but nothing that overly damaged my reading experience. The author is very receptive to feedback, so I'm sure what few issues there are will be rectified in short order.
Character: Luqa is obviously the main draw, and his demon lord inner monologue is very entertaining. Clara is another standout, and her expressiveness is shown well through dialogue.
One thing I noticed is that people's relation to eachother is repeated perhaps a little more than necessary. Ersham is Helena's husband who is Ersham's wife who is Lucia's mother and so on. It's a small thing, but I feel as though these ties need only be mentioned once or twice to get it sticking in readers' minds. It's helpful, don't get me wrong, but when overdone it can lead to ponderous prose (unless it's something quick and organic like "Lucia stuck out her tongue at her cousin")
Overall, Saga of the Reborn Demon King is a fun read with a great premise. The feeling of progression is strong even at this early stage, and I'm sure many a reader will enjoy tagging along with the newly-risen demon lord on his rise to power! - DuvilRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There's a lot to love here. The concept is one I think many will immediately gravitate towards: an incredibly powerful and regretful demon king on the brink of death transmigrates his soul to a new life, hoping to live a better life one day. And so begins our story, full of powerful magic, ancient memories, and meat skewers.
Style:
Pretty good. The story reads comfortably, though sometimes it can be a bit strange to discern the exact perspective or tense being used, nothing that can't be remedied with a quick edit, and certainly not a detractor.
Story:
Oh I love this sort of thing. There's plenty going on, and at the point I've reached, there is a hint of overarching story related to the demon king's soul that may soon come into play. I feel it's inevitable our protagonists will eventually leave their comfortable little village, and I wonder under what circumstances that might happen. Besides that overarching story, there are seeds lain for other events related to humans, as well as Luqa's journey of self discovery he will undertake related to his... let's say eventful past life.
Grammar:
nothing to complain about here! Solid and well done, nothing jarring or blantantly noticeable.
character:
I really like the archetypes that show up here. Mothers, mentors, childhood friends and mean little girls. Luqa is also a pretty good protagonist, boasting a maturity beyond his age (for obvious reasons) while still being his own person in a way. I am excited to see the characters explored with more depth and see their growth and evolution throughout the story.
Overall, an experience best described as "really solid!" I hope to see a creative world and story come to life here, and especially to see Luqa reach even a fraction of his potential as the once-great Malachi. Good stuff! - KinAkira1996Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this concept of a deeply flawed individual making right the wrongs they enacted upon others. I found the development and introduction of the Demon King very engrossing and I'm legitimately curious about how he will try to fix the world.
The style is very concise and succinct. It made reading the chapters a breeze and helps with the pacing. I think that there is the right amount of time to develop his early years but I would definitely like to know more about how he trained and overcame certain obstacles.
As I stated before, redemption stories aren't new, but good ones with interesting concepts are hard to come by. I feel like this falls into the latter category and just from the few chapters I read it seems that a lot of care is being taken to humanize the Demon King.
I didn't see any major grammar issues.
Characters are introspective and feel very human. Meaning they have flaws but try to make the best of their situation and work to improve themselves. Really great job by the author.
I'd recommend this story for people looking for something substantial in terms of character development stories and worldbuilding. - Ryan GeeverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review covers the story up through Chapter 3:
I started this novel and felt like it read like novels I had used to read when I was much younger--in the sense that it brought to mind feelings of just sitting down with a book with characters I hadn't known with concepts like demon kings and magic and just letting my imagination fill out this vast world. This isn't to say this story is derivitive, but moreso inspired, in the best of ways. Seeing elements like reincarnation and inheritance used in the ways this novel does definitely makes me want to read more. The author has a tight grip on their visual descriptions and as previously stated it draws on that normal imaginative way to really immerse the reader. - StainedGlassThreadsRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Luqa has a bit of a problem, from the moment of his birth. That probablem being, he probably shouldn't be this self-aware as a newly-born infant, nor should he be capable of fluent speech. Nor should he be aware of how bizarre this is. As he grows older and has strange recurring nightmares, he begins to suspect that this is not the first life he's lived...
Saga of the Last Demon King is, as one may suspect from the title and description, a reincarnation story about the demon king who once wrecked the world being reborn into that same world, hundreds of years later. I can't say much about the plot or characters yet with how early we still seem to be, but I can say I'm interested in learning more about Malachi's past and what drove him to become the feared Demon King, as well as what Luqa will do with this information upon recovering it, seeing how the scars of Malachi's war are still apparent in the world's present.
Grammar is excellent, and style is also very good. The writing style is straightforwards and to the point. It spends quite a bit of time on Luqa's childhood, but does not spend much time on anything I can easily identify as 'unncesessary'. Most of the story thus far has been spent on either the magic system and world, developing Luqa's character and relationships, or foreshadowing future events and the world beyond. In fact, occasionally it could stand to go into a bit more detail about things directly outside Luqa's life, but this isn't such a problem that the world feels flat or underutilized. We are still in the very beginning, and Luqa's world is still very small.
Fans of fast-paced reincarnator stories, particularly ones where demons are more misunderstood than evil, should check this one out. - Thornwell NebullaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The characters are top tier amazing. Luqa so far is my favourite, he is the MC and had the most screen time so there is that. I like the foreshadowing in this series.
I was afraid that Luqa was going to turn out to be an OP MC that flexes on everyones without working hard for the power. However, seeing him get whoop in a fight settled my fears. - I_AM_VRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I believe the author can do something very nice with this story.
Demon lord gets reincarnated because of spell as a kid. A tale as old as time yet one you can't quite get bored of. The fantasy and magic elements of the world seem to be more complicated than most such stories which I'd say gives this an edge over other similar stories.
The writing reads smoothly but sometimes it switches up on you with the tenses. Sometimes it feels like a usual first person in past tense yet it switches to first person present and kind of feels like a fourth wall break. But this is the only glaring issue with the style of writing and grammar that stood out to me. Otherwise the reading experience is smooth.
The character work feels promising. It's too early to tell whether the characters are good or not, generic or unique but if you were to ask me I'd say the direction things are going is good.
The story, even though relatively generic, is a mainstay for a reason. It allows you to look at a world through the eyes of someone that almost brought it down and assuming the writer is capable bad tropes can be avoided with ease. - fantasyretreatRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0A light-hearted read, though I feel the stakes get higher as the chapters go on. Luqa is definitely a great character full of potential and curiosity--his curiosity being what draws me to him.
His level of understanding and wisdom as a child is also interesting. The writer clearly did not make him infallible just because he was reincarnated or worldly-wise as a babe.
His need to explore and learn is captivating enough for me to want to know more about the world.
The style of the writing and exposition could use some proofreading. And the great blocks of exposition could make for great scenes and dialogue. As the old adage says, "Show, don't tell." But all in all, it didn't subtract much from the story.
The story is yet unexplored. One could tell that the writer has given much thought to the principles and laws of magic that everyone operates on. Up until the fourth chapter, the story still feels light-heart, but there are whispers of dark days ahead.
The grammar--as with the style--could use good proofreading, but it does not take away much from the story.
The characters are well-developed. Luqa is an amazing MC with astonishing potential and I hope the author wields his character to make for a great story.
I'll definitely be back to read more of the story. It's an interesting find. - CapaluchuRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I really love the premise and set-up for this story. I demon lord dies and uses the last of his magic to send his spirit forth so it can inhabit another body in the future. Hundreds of years pass before Luqu is reborn with the Demon Lord’s soul.
STYLE: The writing style is very young. Flat declarative sentences like “Deep within the forests, two brave adventurers faced off against a large serpent.”are pretty common. Dialog is frequently wooden as well. Additionally, there is almost no narration during the dialog. People just speak without descriptions of what the characters are doing while the discussion is taking place.
STORY: The development of the story is interesting. Knowing just how powerful the soul in Luqa is, makes the anticipation of what he could/will become compelling. He is gain powers but he does not feel like he is an OP powerhouse right out of the gate.
GRAMMAR: There are some tense and sentence structure errors but overall nothing too bad.
CHARACTERS: Unfortunately for an older reader, the characters in this story, both young and old, speak like children. This blends them together so for the most part, they all seem like the same character, besides the MC.
I think this story has a great deal of potential but I do think it is aimed at a young audience.
