- TimWLong50Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like Stark Gotto's stories. This one starts with high school students, including the shy Max, suddenly transported from their math class to a medieval fantasy world. The king of this new world tells them they have been summoned to defeat a Demon Lord. Each student gets a fantasy role like Paladin, Cleric, or Mage. Max, who becomes a Mage, struggles to adjust. Let's just say things go south when he makes a mistake and gives him the "Curse of the Betrayed," which attracts stronger monsters and makes his journey even harder. It's an excellent premise, and it hooked me pretty quickly.
Max is a quiet character who tries to avoid attention. At first, he feels overwhelmed by the new responsibilities. The story shows his guilt and remorse after the accident in the dungeon. This event affects him deeply, and we see him struggle with his actions. As the story goes on, Max starts to become more proactive. His development is clear, especially with the introduction of Snickers, a helpful and loyal kobold. Snickers adds humor and practical help to the story, making it more interesting. I guess you could say Snicker's really satisfies. heh.
The writing is clear and engaging, making it easy to read for all ages. The dialogue feels natural, and the interactions between characters are believable. However, there are some very minor grammar errors and awkward sentences that could use a little more polishing. This did not detract from my enjoyment of the story.
The setting in Run! Hero! is well described and the story is easy to follow. It has a relatable main character, a detailed world, and a mix of humor and action that kept me engaged. Recommended! - Eddie LRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not going to lie, and I'm sure the author is aware, that I got snagged by that excellent cover. I hope you paid extra for it haha.
But this book is more than a pretty cover. There is a solid litrpg underneath that gives me vibes of something like dungeon meshi in terms of its comedy content and flexing in the world building among the general story
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something more light hearted. - cszahnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I know it may be a little shallow to start with, but wow! What a fantastic cover! As to the story? I liked it. Somewhat reminiscent of Shield Hero at first, before it took an unexpected turn. We aren’t just focusing on one lone character being transported from another world, but a group of kids. Actual kids. Teenagers who don’t suddenly face an unexpected reality shift with gusto and an innate understanding of how to fight or strategize against monsters. In short - - I liked that detail quite a bit.
The style is fun. Teens with no idea what they’re doing getting in over their head, and one kid who makes a really dumb move almost immediately to show us there are actual stakes to being in the dungeon - - and leads to one of the most unique and fun elements of the story. The Curse of the Betrayed. All at once, we’re given a great hook. I can’t wait to see more of this.
The characters are fun. The king could probably learn to be a little more thoughtful and rush a bit less on his choices of summoning heroes - - especially given what we have for a ‘paladin’ and our main character himself, who does really grow on you really quickly as the curse takes hold. Kinda makes you begin to wonder about how one really defines a villain in a story. Do they mean to be evil, or do they just sometimes make really really poor choices? The path to Hell, etc. Also, I LOVE Snickers.
The grammar is not flawed, but I would like to see a little more meat in the prose. The author is going back through chapters and making revisions as they work, which I really appreciate. The beauty of a web novel is that it never has to be finished, it can be a living thing until the author decides they’re done.
Overall it’s fun. It’s an isekai in which you really feel more sorry for the world the hero is brought to, less than the hero - - and then a little for the hero, because he’s just. He’s a lot. - NolzenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: It is written in a very lighthearted tone with well-articulated settings and detailed and well-described surroundings that really immerse the reader in the story. It suits the high-fantasy well with a light tone that is perfect for the characters as well. The writing is able to blend elements of comedy well into the plot, really enhancing the character profiles.
Grammar: There were some instances of tense mistakes and spelling errors that did not affect the overall flow of the story.
Story: It is about a group of kids being transported into another world. Feels cliche? Well, perhaps. But the execution of it is what really hits the spots. The author has managed to really encapsulate the fact the kids that are being transported into this new world, are, well, actually kids. They don't know how to fight or have the insane guts to go toe to toe with the enemies, no, this story, is about the hilarious interactions between them and how they handle the world around them.
Characters: The characters are very realistic. Not in a sense that they are exactly the most relatable, but more of how someone would probably react in those situations. While that is the case, their interactions and humor are hilarious.
Overall: Honestly, it is worth a read, especially if you're just ending your day and want something to end it off. The chapters are episodic which makes it simple to understand and easy to stop for the night. Also, ain't the cover art fire! - OrthelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very funny story that starts off great. Maybe it’s just me, but I love when a story involves a school or class setting. Max, the super shy and introverted character, had me hooked from the beginning. His personality makes him super relatable, and I found myself rooting for him right away. The curse he deals with, along with everything surrounding it, is written really well. It’s interesting and keeps you turning the pages.
Max is awkward and clueless, making him the kind of character you can’t help but like. He’s definitely not your typical hero, which is refreshing in a genre filled with overconfident protagonists. Then there’s Snickers, who is absolutely hilarious. The interactions between Max and Snickers are some of the best parts of the story, adding a lot of humor and charm.
The writing is straightforward, which I appreciate. Honestly, I don’t know why I gave the grammar a 4.5, since my English isn’t great anyway. The story is so easy to read and enjoy. The vibe throughout the story is light and funny, even when things get a bit crazy. The author does a fantastic job of mixing comedy with action, keeping things light-hearted no matter what happens. The LitRPG and isekai elements are heavily present and done really well, making the story feel fresh and exciting.
Honestly, this story has inspired me for my own work. It’s not often you find a book that’s both fun and easy to relate to. Thank you, Stark, for such a great read! - SRadioactiveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall - This is not a dark tale, and it is not a heavy one. It is delightful in the author’s use of old-school rpg elements, humor, and interesting characters.
Style - The author’s tone is really great. It is immediately interesting, provides glances at conflict and humor, and jumps right into the midst of things right from the get-go. The flow does get a bit bumpy here and there with sentence structure or where descriptions are placed relative to events and dialogue. But this is not a huge deal and does not break the immersion.
Story - I don’t particularly like to write this part without experiencing more of the story, but being this many chapters in the setup for the whole of the story feels great. It has a very classic RPG vibe with a straightforward quest from the king and a big-bad looming just beyond. I think it is exactly what it promises - and it promises to be entertaining thought out.
Grammar - A few issues, but they have been pointed out and the author has addressed them. Needs a bit of polish on there, but don’t we all!
Characters - This story presents an unusually large cast - and I am loving it! Immediately we are introduced to several characters with unique voices and well-written prior relationships. Their dialogue is very realistic, especially for that age group. Of course, our hero is Max - a bit reckless but well-meaning, making an excellent protagonist. The writing is light-hearted enough that the character’s rather calm reactions to this different world do not seem out of place. But then, everyone dies. - dainxxonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5STYLE:
The style of the story was narrated in a 3rd person point of view. The descriptions of the setting was well-written and detailed enough for the readers to imagine the environment where Max and Snickers would travel, which makes this high-fantasy story rich and interesting. The litrpg system was also pretty neat. It was not complex and wasn’t forcefully slapped to the readers.
STORY:
It has an interesting plot for another litrpg story on this website. it also shares comedy scenes which were hilarious and suits my kind of humor. I felt mixed emotions between sad and “that’s insane!” while reading the scenes about characters who would feel the effects of Max’s powers. This makes the story appealing for its uniqueness, with how the MC negatively impacts his surroundings without knowing of it. What I would just suggest is to further describe the impact that Max leaves behind on his path in a more tragic way to get the readers symphatize the victims more, to portray him well as a flawed MC and the “God of Destruction.”
GRAMMAR:
The grammar was okay. There were some errors and a few missing words building sentences but they were manageable to read and doesn’t affect the flow of story.
CHARACTER:
Max is interesting and funny but I’m not a fan of his character, which is my way of saying that him being portrayed as a coward and a kinda out-of-touch teenager is effective and not just a mere description of his character to call it a day but the readers can feel it in the story. This makes him intriguing and I’m looking forward to his character development and to his future adventures with Snickers. - WinterwispRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall, this is a fun, easy-to-read story about summoned heroes that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you're into a flawed protagonist, who's trying his best and accidentally making life miserable for the people around him, this is worth a read.
We meet our MC, Max, on the day he is summoned to another world. Gaining the mage class, he is all set to go out on an adventure, but first he and his class have to go through a dungeon. Unfortunately, Max can't control his fireballs (we've all been there) and accidentally causes the death of many of his schoolfriends. With only five (six) heroes left to fight the demons lord, Max must go on a journey to become stronger. On the way, he will make new friends and leave untold misery in his wake.
Character: For what the story is, I think the characterwork is well done. Max seems like an everyday guy who's just a little out of his depth, and his reactions are often good comedy. It's a little unsettling how easily he brushes off the deaths of his schoolmates, but I can't really be too harsh when the tone of the story is overall light and wants you to just have fun with it. I can dig that.
Story: Although the story is somewhat generic, it's still interesting to follow because of the comedy and tone is easy to keep up with and just experience. You can see plot points being laid out as we go, and I'm looking forward to see if Max will ever be faced with all the misery he unknowingly causes, and how he reacts to it.
Style: I like that there are a lot of environmental descriptions of the areas that Max traverses, and that the prose is light and easy to read. That being said, the prose could still be improved with more sensory and emotional descriptions. Even if the tone is light, a lot of people die as a result of Max' actions and it's a little bit too quickly glossed over, I feel. While I don't mind it in the characterwork (Max is allowed to be thoughtless), as a stylistic choice I think there's room for improvement in how it i - Caz LewisRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall this is a charming and fun litrpg and progression story sure to entertain. The story gets right into and only slows down for the basics.
The story goes full pedal to the medal from the star while also setting the characters up as you go along. Plus the author does a good job with twists right from the start so you don't have to wait around for it to get good.
Characters are well made and very different making for good interactions. The MC does seem a bit slow but has his heart in the right place. So he plays off the other characters well.
I took a half start off for a few little oddly worded sentences, but for the most part very clean on the grammar side and nothing to pull you out of the story. Plus the author is responsive to fix things.
The style is very straightforward and easy to follow. I took a half start off because I would perhaps like a little more description or ambiance, but nothing egregious. When I read the story it does flow nicely so it is probably more of a personal preference thing.
If you are a fan of litrpg and progression definitely check it out as it is a fun, humorous romp from the start. - Kitsune71Royal Road★★★ 2.5It's... childish, character development is nonexistant and concequences are an afterthought. The main character reads as 15 but has no qualms with alchohol nor any difficulty learning ancient runes. It's terrible by most metrics, however, with a full rewrite im sure it could be a genuinely good read, all things considered.
