- LAScottRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style makes for a very easy read. The author does a good job of showing rather than telling and has built up a believable make-shift family of assassins. There's definite points where you're suspicious of people's motives, and even during the more exposition heavy parts the author has worked in layers to keep you on your toes.
The briefcase sequence in the prologue was also just plain fun.
Story: I feel like it's a story about assassins first, and magic second. I was pleasantly surprised to see magic take a bit of a backseat. Magic can sometimes make things a bit too easy, but without giving away spoilers I was pleased to see in one scene that the assassins aren't all-powerful due to their magic. They have other skills, which appear to be a bit more of the up-front focus.
The only minor suggestion I have is helping to provide a bit of scale to the greater world. There's some fast travel in chapter eight, where some of the travel just seems a bit easy. If there's a bit of scale to show how arduous a journey to a target can be it might add a bit more dimension to the greater world. Though I will say the same route in chapter 8 is also travelled in chapter 5, where it's drawn out by an overnight scene, which does go a long ways to helping to show the distance. More content like this definitely helps!
Grammar: Nothing major stood out to me from a grammar standpoint! Keep up the good work!
Character: Honestly, I love them all. They've got depth, and, more importantly, they have room to grow. There was a split second when it almost seemed like there were too many characters coming into play but the author refocused on the core group fairly quickly.
Overall: This is a definite follow! I was hooked fairly early on by the characters and I'm staying for the story. The author has done a great job of presenting a moral-grey area that will be fun to explore as the story carries on.
