- StomachfoodRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Not bad but really nothing special. You have a story but it’s linear ad gets sort of boring. You have only the ups and no downs. There’s no real conflict other than mild tussles and politics. Even the whole familial conflict is dry and plain. You have a distant end goal with the promise of distant treasure but Its bland and nondescript. With the whole impending doom dealt with you have no real end goal for the readers to hope for.
Writing wise you have quite a few typos and mediocre grammar but nothing unreadable. Biggest problem is that you write everything including the dialogue in giant blocks which just makes me inclined to skim more than put any effort in reading.
The characters are also pretty bland. The MC despite his supposed hardships doesn’t seem that much worse for wear and just gives off the impression of a dick with a few principles. He’s a dick to his only friend and other than an unusually nice interaction with the basic side characters that run establishments but are otherwise worthless he is so lackadaisical towards other people that he becomes just a selfish prick. The MCs servant in no way behaves like either a servant or a friend and has no personality other than being reasonably pissed at basically everything. Those are basically the only two characters. The demon/boat has like 4 lines and a chapter of backstory but basically doesn’t count.
Overall everything is readable but boring. The one major gripe I have is your cover and title. You have a ghost ship as a cover and sailing in the name so this should have to do with sailing. It doesn’t. I was expecting pirates or sailing or fishing but instead I get a cultivation story that will probably never include any of the things implied with your name and cover. Technically the cover and half your title match at least a minor aspect of the story but really it’s just misleading.
