Rising Moon: A Pokemon fanfic
Community Rating
Description
Bo Moon was as good a pokemon trainer as you could hope to find. The type of trainer that raided little old ladies' trash cans & closets for spare potions. The type that stumbled into terrorists and criminals during everyday trips to the city. The type that battled Champions & challenged Legendaries. What he was not, was a hero. He did not save the world, beat the Champion and become beloved by all in every region he entered.
Now, after failing worst than he ever has and with his grand journey on his last legs, will he fade quietly into night? Or, when the rare opportunity to become a Gym Leader appears, will Bo and his closest companions seize the chance to rise once more & become legends?
Author Note: In the event that you were not already aware, I do not own Pokemon in any shape or form. This is purely a fan fiction written for personal enjoyment.

- JoshERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Damn, I got caught up right as it stopped updating?
It's a good fic with fun vibes and well written characters, but it's on hiatus right before the action started so that's rough.
I like the world the story is fleshing out, and I'm really hoping it updates again.

I have to say that I have become addicted to Pokemon fanfic since I read borne of caution, and this is the best one I have found.
For context this follows a similar situation to Rock Hard, starting the story with an Elite fully formed protagonist and team.
With well-rounded characters both Human and Pokemon all with distinct personalities interests and motivations with deep relationships with each other. The characters are by far the best part of the novel they are incredibly well done. I can not praise this category enough considering the incredible amount of characters that we have.
The narrative of the novel is somewhat basic but extremely functional there is a tournament for a major gym slot. Sweet simple and effective, works perfectly, no need to overcomplicate it and the pacing of the story is pretty solid.
The style of the novel is complicated, the chapters flow extremely well, and the author manages to weave the descriptions, inner thoughts and dialogue seamlessly. It is the same with the comedy and the drama. But everything gets bogged down by the onslaught of Names, the legend Name > Pokemon at the end of the chapter helps is not enough. Probably it will fix itself with more chapters so I can automatically remember what Pokemon is what name but it is my biggest current issue.
I did not find any grammatical issues. The sentences are correctly structured and without misspellings. But I do have to say that English is my second language.
This story belongs at the top of Royal Road give it a try, it will not disappoint. - La GurkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5TL;DR It's a simple but well executed Story with amazing characters.
I really like this story. It is by no means perfect, but definitely worth the read. Let's get into why:
Style
The style is, in my opinion, the weakest part of the story. Since it starts long after a full hero's journey, there are a lot of names and events mentioned but never really explained. This makes the story feel real (after all, why would someone just have an inner monologue explaining, in excruciating detail, what happened 10 years ago?), but it can be quite hard to follow early on, especially with the names of the 30+ Pokémon across all of our Main Characters.
This all gets better as the story goes on and after 10 or so chapters, the Author started including a legend of all the names and species, but it is still a bit much. I strongly encourage anyone to still give this story a shot and stick, at least until the first Interlude, since that chapter did a LOT for me to get to know the Party.
Story
The Story is very simple and mostly works as a reason for the Characters to interact. This fic is very much Character driven, so the story just being there to make everything happen works quite well. A quick description of the story and how it facilitates the Characters interacting can be found in the spoiler below:
There is a big, Team-Based Tournament going on. Our Main Character and his Grandfather really want to win it, because it will get them their dream of having their own Gym.
They, however, do not have enough capable Trainers to have a chance at winning, so our MC needs to reconnect with his Best Friend and his Ex after what is heavily implied to be an incredibly haunting event that caused them to split apart.
Grammar
Not much for me to say. English isn't my first language, but I didn't notice any glaring mistakes or typos.
Characters
I saved the best for last. The Characters are, by far, the best part of this entire story. Every single one of them (including the 30+ Pokémon) feels like a r - ZromakRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Much to be desired. Finally got a character list last chapter so we can understand who is who but the author makes to many assumptions. I don't have the same knowledge that you do writing this or thinking about it all the time so you need to explain stuff. Also havnt really seen a battle yet which doesn't help. Feels a bit like a crack fic but not funny
