- RekiuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An OP MC LitRPG with some great action, characters, plot. Best part of the series is the meaning of life concepts and discussions intertwined with the universe scale of the story. The MC struggles with retaining his humanity as he grows ever stronger, while his friends wonder how they'll be able to help him in their quest to save mankind from extinction.
- RogoshRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story so far with the end of book 3, really enjoy Liams progression as he fights for his friends family and humanity as a whole. I highly recommend this story, it is well thought out with an interesting long term plot with well developed relationships. We need more stories like this that make you want to keep reading every day chapter. I cant wait to see whats next.
- BDTJRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I didn't expect much at the start but after a few chapters I can see this actually going somewhere keep up the good work I usually hate reading, watching TV, even playing games but it grabbed my interest with how realistic it is explaining social media and how it feels to wake up in the morning
- proRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A Good Novel, In my opinion, its a very great novel, I enjoyed it, I had fun with it, a very good novel, thank you for creating this, I really liked it, it was a fun novel to read. ((I'm just going to extend this cause 50 words long is what the goddamn review want))
- audie9010Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has been a blast. The characters are new and interesting it is something I haven't come across before. I can't get enough of of the growth seen in both the MC or his best friend. The fights are fun and the author does a great job not being repetitive with them. The Stat page is very sleek giving you enough information without using it as padding for the word count. All in all I am going to recommend this be to anyone who enjoys game lit and plenty of people who don't. It is truly an enjoyable story.
- BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well, I would be damned. A fantasy novel where they don't just wing the plot. Did the moon turn red while I wasn't looking or something?
Anyway, onto the review. Got some stuff to say.
Style:
The style is, first of all, very intensive on character interactions. The people in the story talk a lot about various things, jabbering on about their day, talking as if its a normal day. It gives the reader a more natural entry into the world that the whole thing is set in. 4.5/5 for that. Though,I did wonder why the story has the swear words censored when the story warnings include profanity. Is it so wrong to say fuck instead of f*ck?(Example of this can be found at Encounter (1) near the start)
Story:
Along with an intensive look into the world, we get a more segmented piece of storytelling. What do you call them? Mini-arcs? Subplots that help lead the main plot on? I'm sure there's some kind of fancy name for them, but I just know they work well with what was worked up. 5/5 from me.
Grammar:
Nothing to say here. Good enough. No real flaws. 5/5
Character:
Gonna give this one an eh. With the more natural approach to the characterisations, I had initially expected to get more invested in the people doing the talking. Yet... that just never seemed to really work. I could clearly tell that thought has been put into them, that there was more than just superficial facts, yet I just never hit it off. Might be a personal opinion but whatever. 4.5/5 from me.
Also, am I the only one who noticed how many characters names started with A? Just something I couldn't get out of my head.
4.75 overall. Since that isn't a score I can give, it'll be 5/5 from me. - ThatDavenRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall/TL;DR: It's a great read as of currently how I am reading through it, great job! :)
The only problem I see is that the plot is sometimes maybe a bit confusing or could be a bit better? I guess I'll figure it out and tell yopu what when I find it :). Keep at it, it'll become a great read and you're a great author.
Style: I love the way you portray the protagonist, and the way you write around them and all that happens within the plot, it is an interesting read and I like to see how this protagonist developes throughout the story.
Story: It may or may not move a bit fast for my liking, but readiong it at my pace and soaking in everything I cna say it'd be a great short story written, nbut as this is a novel it can be improved in some ways such as the structuring of the events and the storyline is greatly done keep at it champ :).
Grammar: Almsot nothing to say, you definitely used a spellchecker or you're naturally fgreat with writing! The written structure flows and liocks together solidly and the spacing and pauses is enough to leave me on the edge of my seat.
Character: Now this may be a bit harsh, but I do believe your story needs a bit more character developement or a bit less, I am currently on the gate with this and it's basically depending on how I read this story to be honest. Although you could maybe wittle down the numbers it is great how your story flows around the protagonist. - AzurathRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Well, this won't be too long of a review, I'll get my point across quickly. The style and grammar are both good, I think some more variety for words could be used, but it's all very good.
The story itself is interesting and characters are somewhat cool too. I would say Liam is a little bland for my taste, but that's because I just don't know a lot about him yet. Otherwise, the story kinda pulls you in, and I had fun reading this.
If there would be any advice to give, I'd say maybe explore Liam a little more and further delve into the side characters, as I think they are currently not very interesting. I like the attribute system and being warped into a tutorial is something I don't see often so it was something I think was a great addition too.
Who I liked the most was Arthur, he seemed very interesting and mysterious like Liam, but I think we were given enough information to put together a mental image of him, unlike how with Liam, I am utterly clueless to what his past could be; he seems to be trained, but yet again, he is struggling to get work and is suicidal.
Now, I don't have much more to say, except what I repeated before for a conclusion. The story was interesting, I think delving into characters could be done a bit more. I haven't gotten to it with my story either, so can't blame ye much on that part. A solid 4 star for sure, and another half since I like this story personally, I will be tuning in for future chapters.
PS: As this was my first ever advanced review, please don't judge me for how it's made. This is my personal opinion, and please don't resent me for that. - TwelveGreatApesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's actually very rarely that I'm drawn into a story on this platform, but I really was with this one. Finished everything that had been done so far in one go,
So style, first off. The language isn't tremendously complicated, but its easy to read. The story pulls you in fast and the action scenes are especially well done.
The grammar is largely fine. Speaking very critically, there are a few mistakes here and there, and some of the formatting surrounding dialogue could have been done a little better, but by and large the text is very professional, and certainly some of the best I've encountered on this site.
As with any fiction, the story is what really matters. Last Star pulls you in with an action-driven plot, suitably surrounded with deeper themes of philosophy and absurdism -something that is very much up my alley! The main character spends a lot of time on the brink of death, and the treatment of this is refreshing, focusing on the thought processes behind what the character is encountering. This feels very real and helps to draws the reader into the moment, lending them a lot more investment into the character. The action scenes are captivating in general, as a matter of fact.
The one thing I would say -and this is entirely a matter of opinion- is that I disliked the RPG/game stats aspect of the story. I felt like presenting things as a video game (and hanging on that during the crescendo moments of action scenes) seemed to rob the situation of some of its gravity and drama.
For example seeing a character do something like lay aside their self destructive tendencies in the midst of battle, seizing instead hope and the will to live, and then having that defined as an in-game ability sort of... Cheapens the moment, in my eyes.
Of course, this is probably entirely subjective to me, and fans of the genre will likely enjoy the extra layer it provides. Others should likely learn to read the story tags more carefully before they are surprised by certain inbuilt elem - AsvilokaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story does touch on heavy subjects, so be warned.
Style: Solid, evocative, and does a good job drawing the reader into the MC's life. It's written in third person, mainly limited, but with some omniscient creeping in. I don't mind omniscient, so it didn't bother me. It has a vaguely light-novel feel to it, the way things are written out.
Grammar: Quite good. Has a few flaws, but overall there is little to complain about. Above average.
Story: Some events felt a bit abrupt and rushed. Chapter 4 in particular was more difficult to suspend diseblief for and once we get into the game part, the main character seems quite overpowered for someone in his situation.
After the very grounded and largely realistic intro arc, it felt jarring to be thrown into a more typical super special MC with unique powers story.
Character: I have a problem with two supporting characters being named Arthur and Albert; I keep getting them confused with each other. Thankfully, there are enough descriptors sprinkled throughout that it was only minorly jarring, but it's still worth mentioning.
There's a disconnect between the feel of him in his initial chapters and the version after attaining his system abilities. It felt almost like I was reading a different story about an entirely different person, with only occasional asides to remind us of who he's supposed to be.
Overall: Based on the intro arc, I expected to rate this story much higher. Unfortunately, the genre transition proved to be too jarring for me. Still, despite my personal falling out, the story is quite well done for what it's trying to be.
