Hugo wakes up on an unfamiliar island, with no memories of how he got there. He’s given only one piece of information: “This is an elimination game”. Then, he’s shot.

He wakes up on the same island again, as if nothing happened. In fact, no matter how many times he’s shot down, he always finds himself back at the starting point. He’s forced to retry the game over and over, without end.

To get out of this hell, he must shoot down all other players and be the last man standing. Easier said than done. For how long will he have to endure this imprisonment? Will he be able to retain his sanity throughout the ordeal?

Well worth reading for a fun time with great characters and excellent pacing. This story really captures the wondrous curiosity of a new world. All the characters feel very real and all the motivations and actions make sense. It really balances having fun exciting moments without needing anyone to hold the idiot ball. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this tale goes next.

Overall: Given how much I enjoyed Angel Beats, it was probably inevitable that I would take some enjoyment out of this. There wasn't really a weak link in the novel, but nothing particularly outstanding that jumped out at me either.
Style [4/5]: The novel is easy to read. The point of view character makes his thoughts clear and doesn't really beat around the bush, or purposefully leave thought "cliff-hangers" for the sake of drama. It's quite refreshing.
Story [4/5]: It's not something overdone. To me, it seemed to resemble the anime Angel Beats, given the immortality of the characters as well as the situation. The story wasn't groundbreaking, but nothing detracted from my enjoyment.
Grammar [5/5]: I didn't find anything wrong with the grammar during my casual read, so I wouldn't take anything off. Honestly, grammar is easy to score?. Did bad grammar catch your attention? No? Then there's really no reason to comb through the story looking for a mistake.
Character [4.5/5]: When I first started the review, I thought that characters would be the weak link in the novel. That's really not true. While the characters may feel one dimensional at first, they all have some depth. The novel also delves into the human psychology and outlines the results of a good thought experiment. However, what kept this category from scoring a 5 is likely the love interest, which seems the least developed of all, serving only to aid the main character's development.

    Setting: 4/5
It is similar to Angel Beats in the context of the setting.
    Plot: 4/5
It is neither bland nor outlandish but I didn't like the fact that the ending is a bit loose.
    Character: 4/5
The stereotypes are quick and easy to understand but characters are not delved into deeply.
