- cade21Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0OVERALL: it's a great story that i've enjoyed very much, the first book was great, and i can't wait to see what the second book has in store!
STYLE: unlike other generic cultivation reincarnation novels, this one possesses something special about it, maybe it's due to the main character being a tree, maybe not. the world building is great too.
STORY: the story is great, it mainly resolves around the main character, Ashlock, and two other side characters. you get to see how Ashlock is dealing with being a tree and what he's doing, as well as how he's affecting the world.
GRAMMAR: great by all means, no real issues. just an occasional spelling mistake. these mistakes don't really take anything away from the story.
CHARACTER: the main character's a tree, what's not to love? it's very interesting to see all of the tree shenanigans that ensue because of this. there can be some issues with relating to tree things, as i don't think anyone reading this story is a magical tree, but i could be wrong about thhat fact. the issue with relating to the main character isn't as big an issue as in other novels though, as most of the important parts are fine. - AngryLizzardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very different take on a cultivation novel. I really enjoy that the author addresses the mental issues a human reincarnated as a tree has to face. The timescales a tree has think and act in really add a different element to the story. Good pacing and flow. Overall a very enjoyable read, I'm looking forward to reading more.
- ProtoFire8Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a tree. It's a cultivator. It's a cultivating tree with a human child for a friend. The author even admits it as an usual main character, but for some reason it absolutely works. Ashlock, which I think is a fantastic name for a tree, still gives off the idea of having a human mind, but has still come to terms with no longer being a human pretty well. Being able to see through the eyes of a possibly immortal creature can be entertaining and is usually thoroughly sprinkled with either jumps in time or logical fallacies just to make it a good story. Thankfully, the former is done well. It really gives off Divine Dungeon vibes, but is just a tree, currently, rather than a dungeon.
The grammar here is a lot better than most I've here on Royal Road, just a few small errors here and there rather than whole paragraphs being littered with ridiculous mistakes.
As is stated early on, our boy tree Ashlock hasn't really stepped into the realm of cultivation, not having a core yet, but even this boring time is still quite amazing. The relationship between the tree child and the human child is written well, especially being able to see both one-sided conversations, as though the person you can hear is muted on the end of the other who is on speaker phone.
Even she is believable. Though she isn't the primary character, and even has one POV chapter, she does well as a cultivated child. Though, that is a lot easier in a world such as this since their emotions can be fairly nonexistent, the dichotomy between child all alone with a tree and someone who has seen death, probably even murder, all her life is well described and even makes sense. - Salted_FyshRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall a very enjoyable story. The reading flow is smooth and I've found myself binging this non-stop rather quickly. While there are the occasional grammar and spelling mistakes, that is to be expected in a web-serial with a high-volume release schedule.
This story is more plot than character focused, but that's a good thing as the plot is fun to follow. The LitRPG aspects is very slight but enjoyable with the occasional upgrade of capabilities.
The characters all come with their own little (sometimes-not-so-little) character flaws and unique personalities. None are perfect and this makes them feel a lot more relatable. The character of Tree himself is ultimately well adapted to his life as a tree. What we have here is not some modern guy cosplaying as a tree but a tree with the soul of a modern guy. Relatable enough to the readers to understand him but tree enough to signify that he *is* different.
Is it the deepest story I've ever read?
No.
Is it a very intricate Xianxia?
Also no.
Does it have to be or would it be better off that way?
Definitely no.
Ultimately this is a nice little Slice of Life involving a perfectly innocent happy little tree doing perfectly innocent happy little tree things. - TelescopicBirdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An intriguing synopsis and premise got me to check the story out, and I was not disappointed. Mixing slice of life/humor and darker themes isn't easy to get right, but the author has done so splendidly.
Binge-read the story. The pacing is particularly well handled and made me turn the next page; as I wanted to learn what new way the author would progress the demon tree's cultivation, what new emotional beat with Stella would crop up, and how Ashlock continues to react to the world around him.
It is a 5 star for me, instead of a 4.5 star because while the worldbuilding is lighter than what I normally prefer, this isn't a story that relies on knowing what all the kingdoms are, who the dealers and shakers are, the structure of the cultivation system, etc. No. It is fundamentally a story that relies on the characters, and it lovingly delivers on character development and emotional beats.
Well done author. - TyphoonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reborn as a demonic tree is a really good book that I think many people should give a try. It has plenty of humor sprinkled in. The cultivation and power of characters is well thought out and I enjoy watching Ash, the tree, go through the world as a funky magic tree.
- bamjoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is easily one of the best I have read on RR. I normally don't enjoy stories that have non-human protagonists, So the fact that I write this one so highly should speak for its quality.
The only bad thing I can say is that the blue button stopped working. I can't wait for more. - bobumsssRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this series. You would think that having a main character that can only stay in one place and is unable to interact with the would would be boring, but it is in fact a wild ride. While the main character of this story is... well... a tree, he is able to connect and interact with the world around him more and more as the series goes on. The characters the get attached to Mr. Tree are erratic, crazy, and a whole lot of fun. ALL HAIL THE TREE! THE TREE IS LIFE! THE TREE WILL GRANT US SUCCOR AND WILL RIGHT ALL WRONGS!
The author manages to take what should be a boring main character and give him plenty to do, despite the fact that his super power from getting Isikie'd into his new world is a daily login gatcha game. Have fun in this wild ride where the villains are not even as evil as the followers of Tree.
The author is great about going in to fix any spelling error's and the story doesn't have any real grammatical errors. I think the biggest struggle the author has had is how to structure the typesetting in a way that makes sense for all the ways the characters communicate (like telepathy, thinking through a problem, or saying things out loud) they are getting better and better at is as the series goes along and the author gets his writing feet.
Thank you for the wonderful story, I eagerly await every new chapter that comes out - BananaPirateRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As can be expected from a story about a tree it starts off rather slow and doesn't really speed up much until around chapter 60. This doesn't mean it's bad though, the slow pace adds to the world building and sets up all sorts of fun plot elements.
I'd consider this a rollercoaster riding to the top, that which is to come promises to be epic. - Erebos05Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great story. The idea is fairly original. I have seen only one other story that matches this story's premise even remotely. In my opinion, the idea is also intriguing. What makes this particular story great though, is that the execution is done well too. Language is close to perfect. Pacing is neither too slow nor too fast. Characters and relations are explored nicely. World-building is also proceeding quite nicely. Even the system is not too overpowered. Really, the only major issue I have with this story is the lack of chapters but that is literally merely a matter of time.
