Note: My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. We have been at non stop appointments and she has started chemo. So I'm still working on this book but I'm behind on chapters. More soon.

"A hilarious, sauce-stained isekai with just the right amount of flavoring. Further proof that there's no problem chicken wings can't solve."--Matt Dinniman - the New York Times best-selling dude who wrote Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Can this former dark lord transform from the scourge of the realm to its most beloved tavern owner?
Vincent Logan's day couldn't get any worse. Fired from his job, almost dying of a heart attack, and then suddenly thrust into the body of the recently defeated Dark Lord Morthisal? Talk about a career change.
Now, trapped in a fantasy world with powers he can barely control and a reputation that precedes him (in all the wrong ways), Vince has to navigate a post-war kingdom that wants nothing more than to see him dead. But he's got other plans.
Armed with nothing but his wits, a few magical artifacts, and an insatiable craving for chicken wings, Vince sets out to open the most unlikely business venture for a former evil overlord. His mission? To buy a tavern and create the best hot wings the kingdom has ever tasted.
The companion novel, The Dark Lord's Guide to Hostile Corporate Takeover (A Reverse Isekai), hasbegun!

- BardLyreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you're in the mood for a wild, humorous, and unique fantasy ride, then this is a must-read. Imagine being Vince, an ordinary guy getting laid off by The Bobs in a frigid corporate conference room, only to be yanked into the body of an evil dark lord in a fantasy realm. Yeah, it's as crazy and fun as it sounds.
The story kicks off with Vince facing the axe at his job, then spirals into an unexpected fantasy adventure. One minute, he's dealing with job loss and potential heart issues, and the next, he's in a dark lord's body, surrounded by orcs, goblins, and a snarky dark elf named Thalindra. Vince's journey from corporate drudgery to navigating a world of magic, portals, and epic battles is both hilarious and thrilling. The plot twists keep you hooked as Vince learns to wield power and survive in a realm that’s both fantastical and dangerous.
Vince is a relatable protagonist with his sarcasm, wit, and everyman charm. His transformation from a laid-off office worker to a powerful dark lord is packed with humor and unexpected depth. Churl, the goblin with a surprising amount of heart, becomes a loyal sidekick and adds layers of humor and warmth to the story. Thalindra, the enigmatic dark elf, provides a touch of mystery and tension. The cast of fantasy creatures, from orcs to dark elves, are well-crafted and add richness to Vince's new world.
This is a delightful mix of fantasy adventure and modern humor. It’s perfect for anyone who loves a good laugh and a unique twist on the classic fantasy genre. Vince’s journey from ordinary to extraordinary is filled with memorable moments, making this book a standout read. If you're ready for an adventure that's as funny as it is epic, give this book a shot. You won’t be disappointed! - FarbmondRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review is part of a review swap, I have read it up to chapter 5 (10000 words). I like the story so much that it will stay on my personal follow list.
What the story is about: Vincent loses his job to an AI and his life to a miserable healthcare system. Things can almost only go uphill, can't they? But what kind of story would that be? Exactly - a boring one! And this one definitely isn't. Instead of saying goodbye to his life, Vince involuntarily swaps roles with a movie-worthy villain and is now busy hiding in a completely alien fantasy world.
Character: Likeable main character and endearing supporting cast (can I have a pet goblin?).
Story & Style:
Pleasant pace, not too fast not too slow. The story line is easy to follow, the style is very pleasant to read. The author succeeds well in capturing the mood of the various situations. You almost find yourself there and can empathize well with the protagonist (termination meeting, yikes). A good mix of action scenes, humor and inner monologues makes the story never seem boring and the time flies by (oops, 5 chapters already?)!
Grammar: Easy to read, I didn't notice anything distracting.
To summarize: A really well-written story with likable characters, a good dose of humor, and enough action to make you want to keep reading at the end of every chapter! - KitFalboRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Vincent is hit by American-health-care-Kun the biggest truck of all and in his state of distress he gets Freaky Friday'd by an Evil Dark Lord. Now stuck with the dark lord's troubles He has to get away. This leads to an adventure of him playing a human and deciding to find a settled life away from the troubles using his social skills and gifts of modern cooking.
Style- This is very much a Cozy Fantasy vibe aligned with things like Legends and Lattes but with that Isekai spice. Playing off his modern colloquialisms as a head injury. That way you get a hit of familiarity with the fantasy setting.
Grammar- Noticed no issues.
Story - A solid start to a Cozy adventure with the potential to have the consequences of the body he inhabits throw wrenches into our protagonists plans to settle down for a cozy life. It doesn't seem to have a set-up for a deeper arc but it is still early.
Characters- A solid lineup who were introduced. Possible romance complications.Could their be a harem? probably not but you know how those shippers get.
Overall a story with lots of potential and a slower cozier pace. Give it a try. It floated my boat enough that I'm giving it a follow. you should read that and do it too. - LokiTheQuickRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of those novels that you really have to accept for exactly what it is. The author makes it quite clear the marvellously ridiculous tale he's telling, and if you get on board, it'll absolutely take you for a ride.
This is a story about a silly man, who makes a silly place in a new world. Part of what it makes it funny and enjoyable is that the world he's brought to isn't that silly. Yes, there's funny people (and orcs) in it, but there's also war, and bloodshed and tragedy.
It's this contrast that makes the MC so much fun, as in the middle of all this deadly madness, he thrives doing something simple that he loves: cooking. Isekai is so often filled with people finding their real purpose slaying monsters and conquering worlds, it's surprisingly refreshing to see someone find so much more joy feeding people and opening a small business.
If this sounds simple--it is, and yet you'll find yourself cheering him on as he finds interesting spices and making friends while making stew.
I don't want to undersell the interesting twists and turns along the way. The MC is definitely dealing with more than just a normal life as a medieval chef, and the challenges he experience will keep you worrying about his secrets and his life while he's worrying about getting the seasoning right.
Definitely check out this book. Read a couple of chapters, and find yourself reading the next one without thinking about it. The only criticism I'd give is that I wish he started cooking earlier. The story feels a little aimless until he finds his path, but once it does, you're hooked. - RaiethRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This fic makes a rival food stall "doing better than you" have the same stakes and intrigue as a full on battle for the town. Not to say that there aren't bigger stakes (there is a doozy of a secret waiting to be unleashed after all), but the small town/business issues make everything feel closer to home and more down to earth.
It's cozy, and exciting, and I always look forward to a new chapter. - RathgillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the first cozy novel the author has written. However, he is an experienced author with several other books under his belt, and it shows! I definitely don’t want to give away much in the way of plot points, so this isn’t a summary by any means. It begins as a standard isekai story with The main character getting yanked out of modern life and dumped into a fantasy/medieval setting. Instead of continuing in a litRPG leveling system advent, or becoming another spin on “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” he goes about the new life he’s in with a pretty unrelenting optimism and a work ethic to match. (Well, okay, he does use a few amazing recipes he takes from modern times so it is a liiiittle bit Connecticut Yankee!)
An excellent read. Do yourself a favor and dig in! - Stark GottoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, I must say that I am a huge fan of TimWLong5, and I was thrilled to dive into this novel, "Dark Lord's Last Call." What mostly stood out was the dialogue just like in his other works, it is incredibly engaging and well-written, sprinkled with a layer of humor.
The writing is very smooth, making it easy to follow. The pacing is perfect, neither too fast nor too slow.
I didn't notice any grammatical errors, the text is polished and very professional!
The story follows heart-attack-kun getting another victim who finds himself in the body of an Evil Dark Lord. Now he has to figure out what to do in his new life, the plot is very unique and funny.
The characters are very enjoyable. Our protagonist in particular is a very fun, down-to-earth guy, who just wants to be let alone. The supporting characters as of yet aren't many around but they show a great promise for further development.
Overall, "Dark Lord's Call" is a great, cozy fantasy that blends humor and action. It is perfect for readers who just want to relax and laugh. I highly recommend it, give it a try, I guarantee that it will bring a smile to your face!
Great work author, keep doing amazing work! - bans9352Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0this is what fantasy slice of life dreams are made of.
there is no bulls*it. it is not boring like most slice of life stories. it maintains excitement throughout the story and is adequately funny without even trying too much.
it gives the exact feeling of excitement and contentment you have while having friends are at your house for staying over and having noodles late at night while playing video games and talking about life. - damienrjamesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0From getting laid off to becoming a lord of darkness. You see this scheme play out a lot of times on RR but this one was certainly entertaining and funny! I liked the fact that he had to hide himself among the lord's enemies. Reminded me of a certain story here on the road as well :)
Style: Easy to follow and digest. No complaints here. At first there were a couple characters, but then it zeroed down to two, which made it easy to follow as the world building developed.
Grammar: I don't think any issues popped out, just some strange word choices. Maybe not exactly strange, but not as flowy choices that sometimes made the sentence harder to read. Other than that, nothing really pulled me out of the narrative.
Character: the MC is still exploring himself in his new role in this strange endeavor, so I can't really comment too much on him. But everyone else, except for C, was pretty good. Chur seemed to be rolling with the punches, I didn't really see her personality shine, however, I'm sure it'll develop as the story does. She's already a great supporting character.
Story: Action packed from chappy one. I like how we get both a decent amount of background for him that helped with insight on how he will handle things in the new world. Which is nice, because a lot of authors on this platform don't do that. They skip the character backbone and go right into the power fantasy.
So far it is a fun read, fast pace, but it still gave room to develop the world and characters! - natashainwoodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you've been curious about cozy fantasy but have been hesitant to dip your wrinkly goblin toes into the water because it seems a bit too clean and tranquil, have no fear. Dark Lord's Last Call has all the warmth and charm of fantasy's newest subgenre but with a hearty dose of grit and humor that livens up the story and makes the characters jump from the screen.
As far as the big 4 (style, story, grammar, and character) go, they're all solid. It makes for an easy and enjoyable read. The author's voice and style is confident and consistent, and the pacing is perfect for the story. The concept is fresh and interesting, and the characters are relatable and three-dimensional. I'm also not someone who usually reads a lot of humor-infused fantasy, but the humor in this story makes it really stand out and I'm truly enjoying it as a reader.
As a writer involved in a lot cozy fantasy spaces, one issue I've found in the community is that a lot of male readers are looking for cozy or cozy-adjacent stories, and there just really isn't much out there for them. Dark Lord's Last Call is a story that can definitely fill that void. The action, humor, voice, and male main character would certainly appeal to male readers looking into the genre. At the same time, the story doesn't do anything to drive away female readers, which is a plus too.
So if you're looking to try some cozy fantasy, but still want a bit of humor and action, give this story a go. I can't wait to see where Vince will end up!
