Summoned into a medieval world where corrosion devours the continent, Swift quickly learns survival is not a given. Armed with a firearm that evolves alongside him, Swift fights not for destiny or prophecy. He fights, because there’s no other choice.
Every battle demands he grow stronger or die as a nameless gunfighter. From the shattered frontlines to brutal tournaments in the capital, he must overcome monstrous forces and hidden enemies.
Swift’s path is about staying alive long enough to evolve his weapon. With it, he'll conquer a fate no one believes possible: destroying The Corrosion.
Will his gear and gun evolution be enough?
How far can he go alone?
Part 1 is complete; Part 2 is in progress

I’d even say it’s doubly intriguing.
Not only are we placing modern-day shooters into a fantasy world with bullets as currency (just like in Metro 2033, heh!)
But we’re also turning the protagonist into something of a melee fighter by giving him an outdated weapon. Funny enough, I like it... same as I like muskets, lol. As for the technical aspects of the story, I do have a few questions, but that’s just me being a nitpicker who calculates the GDP of every fantasy country, so I won’t count it as a negative.
Style and grammar
Personally, I didn’t notice any issues, which means everything is at least solid.
At the very least, I didn’t come across any typos.
Story rating
The setting is intriguing, as is the mystery of the Church. Overall, the plot develops at a calm and measured pace. At the beginning, the protagonist is more focused on improving his gear than on any grand objectives.
Character
Well done. Even though the opening scene is a commonly used technique, it’s an effective way to introduce the protagonist. Some writers use it carelessly, and as a result, their character later behaves inconsistently. That’s not the case here. The protagonist feels well-developed, with clear motivation and a consistent personality.
But to be honest, the supporting characters didn’t leave much of an impression. - KaelithRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Re:Volver is what happens when gritty realism collides with genre-savvy progression fantasy... and the result is magnetic!!!
From the first chapter, I was hooked. Swift, the stoic ex-military protagonist, doesn’t awaken in a magical world because of destiny or prophecy: he wakes up because he tackled a shooter in a grocery store and died trying to save strangers. It’s this grounded, human impulse that sets the tone for the entire series: Re:Volver isn’t about a chosen one. It’s about someone who fights because it’s the only way forward.
The worldbuilding is one of the novel’s biggest strengths. The concept of “The Corrosion” devouring a medieval world creates a compelling, oppressive atmosphere, and the Church of Recoil (with its divine gun-blessings and militant theology) adds a layer of both satire and intrigue. Swift’s bond with his absurdly long musket "Excalibur" might sound comical on paper, but the novel handles it with surprising nuance. Every weapon has soul-binding potential and a path of evolution, tying deeply into both the progression system and the character's identity.
Chapter 14 deserves special mention!! It’s a masterclass in tension and environmental storytelling. Swift’s solo infiltration into a spider-infested cavern reads like a tactical horror-thriller, blending clever improvisation with terrifying escalation. It’s a rare sequence that feels both cinematic and character-defining.
Swift himself is a standout. He’s not overpowered from the start, but he’s competent in a way that feels earned. His military background gives him a tactical edge, but he still has to claw his way through a brutal training program, low-paying guild jobs, and the politics of a crumbling world. His obsession with rebuilding real-world combat gear (down to tactical gloves and carrier vests) feels like a refreshing twist on the usual sword-and-sorcery route. And his partnership with Lee, the no-nonsense artisan with a talent for innovation, adds both humor and heart to the - TheplayVikRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5this is my first Review I have done and written when this work was at 31 chapters released
I personally really like what I've read so far. The Setting is somwhat unique with the reliance on firearms as opposed to similar Settings sticking to medieval weaponry
Something I would've liked more would habe been a tad more vivid description of say crescent city, but it could also be interpreted as the writer making a concession to our presumed creativity which is nice in its own way.
Certain things like the lack of an actually firearm training program not existing might seem strange at first glance and could be unrealistic considering this is THE (?) starting town but at the same time when taking a step back, the World is Stuck in a perpetual battlea for survival and an Fascist-like religious regime controlling the flow of information in a what appears to be like a mostly medieval Society. Being in a back country town far from the frontline might play into that aswell. So both options could be a reason for said illogical situations.
What really stood out to me were the characters and the behaviour of all factions. Their actions be it entitys such as the church or individuals made sense. The way they presented themselves felt really with them only revealing more of their lives in bits and pieces.
Overall I habe a good feeling so far and am looking Forward to how this (and thr gun) develops - Tiberius21Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I've really enjoyed reading this story, I don't have all that much experience with progression stories, but this one has definitely gotten me interested in them. It's extremely compelling so far, and I'm finding myself very invested in Swift's journey and the world he's stuck in.
Style
Feels a little stripped back for what I'm used to, with relatively simple descriptions and a very dry tone. That said, it definitely makes the story a breezy read and suits the tactical and military-focused tone of the story. I wouldn't mind a little elaboration on a few settings and character thoughts from time to time, but it certainly works as is.
Story
Very compelling so far, a modern day soldier thrust into a medieval world is a compelling concept, and I definitely felt a real sense of anticipation during his training, as well as concern for him as he had to navigate such an unfamiliar place. I love the idea of soldiers being brought to this world and forced to adapt or die. It’s a perfect setup for a progression-focused narrative. The world also has a lot of intrigue, the Church and its oppression is really interesting, and feels like it's going to get more and more interesting as we find out more. They're definitely shaping up to be a great antagonistic force. I enjoy the backstory with the 'trinity' and look forward to hearing more about it and how true it really is. Crescent City feels like a real place at this point, which is impressive. I do think that some scenes could be dwelt on a little more, and that some aspects of the plot in general are gone through a bit quickly. That said, the fast pace is still a strength of the story overall.
Grammar
I didn't see any notable issues here, the story is very readable!
Character
This is 100% Swift's story so far, and that's fine. He's a compelling character and his practical approach and longing for proper gear make him a perfect protagonist for this kind of story. I enjoy his initial embarrassment at Excalibur, as well as the weapo
