This review is part of a review swap.
This review will need a little explanation. I’m writing it based on experience from writing reviews on a writer’s site aimed at professional publishing (as I always do). That means that three stars mean that I find that aspect of the story perfectly OK, but no more. Four stars from me means that I think that this is really good, and a fifth star would mean exceptional.
    Review as of chapter 30.
The story is, for all practical purposes, a remake of Harry Harrison’s 1960 science fiction novel Deathworld.
This is an ongoing story, meaning that I’m writing this review from a point where the narrative is still developing. In fact I suspect I’m only at the end of the beginning of the story.
We follow the main character, John, from a first person point of view. While there is a reincarnation aspect of the story it’s downplayed to the degree where it plays little to no real role in the story. There are also three central characters around the MC, Greta, Frank and Owen. Add a number of real side characters. It’s made clear that the story is told from the vantage point of the MC sometime during the far future from the events unfolding. Basically I get the feeling of an old man retelling the story of his life.
The main character lives and dies in some kind of science fiction dystopia of our future when we have managed to colonise other worlds, destroy Earth, and some kind of elusive artifact screwed everyone over royally. Then BAM, the MC is reincarnated into a three year old boy named John. As of chapter thirty we don’t know if the little child (the one who lived the first three years) effectively died when the MC took over the body.
We have a four year time-skip and after that it’s clear that the MC  has reincarnated from a science fiction world into fantasyland. Here the first main arc starts with the kiddie version of a military academy. As readers we’re told that the MC and his three friends are genius prodigies. This part of the story

WC’s mutual review- As of Chapter 28
Overall 4/5 Solid, well written and entertaining light read with a hint of mystery and an interesting magic system. The pacing is nice and slow which lets you sink your teeth into the characters and their personalities and the 1st person narrative is done well, with an MC who is interesting but normal and easy to relate to. This work has potential but a lot of it is wasted by an uninteresting start, undeveloped side characters, weak plot and a lack of a proper hook.
Style: 4/5 The first person narrative voice is done well and is distinct. Although certain parts of the narration become a little corny/light novel-y. The author uses exposition well but readers might find it hard to become emotionally invested in your character because he’s so average and hence, his exposition can become boring at times. I’d recommend developing the MCs personality a bit more since right now he sounds like ‘the narrator’ which, since this is in 1st person, means that the style of the story suffers.
Story: 4/5 Deeper things have been alluded to and hinted at but the story seems to suffer from a lack of a ‘hook’ beyond that of the interesting magic system. Furthermore, it seems you came up with an interesting plot device later on but it is, of course, pretty awkward to introduce it so late in the story. The casualness of the story is nice and relaxing but could use a bit of depth.
Grammar: 4.25/5 Much better than most work on RRl but could use a PR, especially for the first few chapters. Run ons are a problem sometimes as are slightly awkward sentence structure/dialogue.
Character: 3.75/5 The MC lacks depth though he is relatable enough but the real problem is the lack of development of the side characters. It is hard to distinguish between Owen and Frank though Greta is fleshed out a bit better. The teacher was very interesting in the beginning but lost his unique spark later on. The other side characters are also kind of trope-y and could use some de
