Razag: [A Dragon LitRPG] (Rewrite)
Community Rating
Description
Razag is born with a pathetic pool of mana. For most species this would merely be unfortunate, but for dragons? Well, it would be a death sentence for most, left without their species's most overwhelming advantage. Razag is not most dragons. He has a trump card so formidable that even this crippling disability can't balance the scales. He was born with a fully developed mind, able to think before even hatching. Unfortunately, without a way to communicate this, he has no way to prove to the adult dragons deliberating over his fate that he isn't a liability. And without that key piece of knowledge, they decide that the best choice would be to drop him off in the forest, so that their hands are clean of blood. They even decide to give him part of the key to a seemingly omniscient System, as if to reassure themselves. Razag takes advantage of this opportunity, following the path to power the System promises. An easy one, as long as the mountains of bodies he leaves in his wake are high enough.
This is my first story, so I would love to have any suggestions on how to improve it! I have fairly thick skin, so anyone willing to critique may go as harsh as they want.
Starting May 3rd, the update schedule will be a chapter a week on Saturdays at 10:00 AM. Any announcements on a change of schedule will be on the lower author's note of a chapter.
I graphically depict gore, so be warned about that. It isn't in every chapter, but it's close.

- 5FivesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was the first dragon story I ever read and I loved it! The first chapter really pulled me in with Razag forgetting his memories. As the reader I got to wake up and explore the new world with him!
For style and grammar: The prose was very clean and polished. It was clear to me that the author took a lot of time to make sure that the story was an easy read. I appreciated that the prose wasn't bogged down with any unnecessary details, which made this a very enjoyable read. (Reading this I felt like a dragon haha and loved it!) The narration is in first person, which made it very personable and I think it was the right choice.
For story: I never read a LitRPG before (I'm pretty new to RR) and I was pleasantly surprised! None of the chapters were boring - they were all engaging reads. For character, I loved Razag. He's a very likeable protagonist trying to navigate and figure out the world. It was easy to root for him and fun to explore the world through his eyes. Every victory Razag had was very satisfying. :D
Overall, this is a very polished book with high quality. I am so grateful for the read! - Rowdha Al SolRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ideally, there needs to be a dragon in every sentence for it to satisfy my dragon blood.
Jokes aside, this is a really good start that doesn't rush itself. I would much prefer this to be 5,000 pages by now but, oh well, we have to wait the painful amount of time between chapters releases to see more dragon.
And yes, I'm saying "more dragon", not "more dragons". - StrawberryRainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Clocking in early, given the chapter count. Worth it!
For a LitRPG, MC usually starts their existence with a little more support. When you're thrown to the wolves--or the squirrels, really--as soon as you make it out of your egg, life is a hot mess. It's a fun hot mess, and the love the author puts into all it comes with shines through.
Style is lovely. The author knows what they want from the get-go, and every chapter drives in a straight line with the plot perfectly in tow. Objectives are clear, progression is tidy, and despite my limited knowledge of LitRPGs, everything is splendidly easy to follow. Stats and screens are addressed in a unique and immersive way that doesn't stray far from a fantasy world, and it's a refreshing change.
Newly-born and reasonably-confused, little Razag is left to navigate his unfamiliar dragon existence, cast headfirst into the wild and starting from scratch--with not one memory to his name. As to where that's steering, only time will tell, early as we are. The tiniest of overarching mysteries are already beginning to blossom, adding on to the mysteries of the dragon life in question. It's to say nothing of what might be the worst birthday ever.
Grammar is lovely. Errors are minor and largely invisible, and syntax is nice and tidy. There are some small instances of inconsistent usage of italics, but nothing that interrupts story flow at all.
As stated, it's a bit soon to poke around in the character realm. Razag's caretakers--lest they be called parents, somewhat questionable as their parenting skills are--are largely confined to the background after a certain point. Still, what we see of them sets the stage for what strange motives are to follow. That leaves baffled MC Razag, literally clawing his way through a new life. He's smart, skillful, and creative within reason, interpreting situations offered up to him in a believable manner relative to the narrative. The author never lets him in on too much, nor too little. That, too, is r - Eva_EverquillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book offers an engaging and immersive experience, consistently told from the first-person point of view. It allows the reader to deeply connect with Razag and experience the story through his eyes. This perspective makes it easy to relate to him and feel his emotions as he navigates the world around him. Razag is a likable and well-developed character, and his journey through this magical world keeps you hooked from the start.
The unique setting of this story provides readers with a fresh look at a magical world, especially through the eyes of a dragon. The author does a fantastic job of describing the world in a way that feels vivid and real, making it easy to visualize everything from the environments to the myriad of creatures Razag encounters as he grows stronger.
While there were a few minor grammatical issues, these were promptly addressed by the author, and they never interfered with the plot or took away from the overall enjoyment of the story. It's clear that the author is committed to delivering a high-quality reading experience, and I appreciate the effort to refine the story as it progresses.
If you're looking for a captivating story with an endearing dragon and a unique magical world, this book is definitely worth reading. - FalstaffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is lovely. Very cozy. Not complicated. Strong recommend.
You wake up in an egg. Figure your way out.
I've only read as far as Chapter 5, so I'm judging those 5 Chapters as an intro. How well does this intro serve its function (Tell me who I am, where I am, what I want, and what's stopping me)?
The style is fantastic. Easily my favorite part. The prose is very readable. The writer doesn't waste time or try to impress us with verbosity. We're told what we need to know when we need to know it, and then the narrative moves on. The prose is lean without being starved for flavor. I love that.
The grammar is polished. The writer is clearly proactive in editing. I appreciate that very much.
Character is the weakest point, so I'll get it out of the way. The MC doesn't have any personality, at least not yet. He's been memory-wiped, so while his confusion and disorientation are palpable, that's about as much characterization as he's afforded at this point in the story. 2 adult dragons haven't been named yet, but they aren't characters so much as plot devices. But the writer did a great job of putting me in the character's head and thoughts. While reading, I felt like I was a fckn dragon! It was great!
I'm nervous about the integration of the MC's memories. I don't usually see that done well, but it hasn't happened yet in this story, so time will tell if this author pulls it off.
Story isn't really present here, either. I mean, there is plot, but there's no story as of yet. Our MC doesn't have an interesting 'want' besides staying alive. We're dropped into a field and told to hunt. I don't see that as a massive problem because in this genre, story isn't that important. There's LitRPG progression in lieu of story. And the cozy dragon protagonist helps a lot.
Candidly, I don't like 'numbers go up' as character growth. To me, it reads like empty calories. But RR's readership I think will love this. So while it isn't for me, it's perfect for a lot of readers here.

Razag is a progression fantasy that follows a newly hatched dragon as it navigates a mysterious world where there’s clearly more going on than it seems. Written in first-person perspective, the story immerses readers in the protagonist’s experiences and perceptions, creating an engaging and easy-to-read narrative. With its quick pacing, clear descriptions, and subtle litRPG elements, Razag is a promising start to a dragon-centric evolution story.
Strengths
Smooth Prose: The writing is clean and easy to follow, with no distracting grammar or syntax issues.
Immersive Perspective: The first-person narrative effectively conveys the protagonist’s confusion and curiosity, drawing readers into their journey.
Quick Pacing: The early chapters are fast-paced and digestible, making it easy for readers to engage with the story.
Simple LitRPG System: The system interface is unobtrusive and avoids overwhelming the reader with unnecessary stats or mechanics.
Recommendation
I recommend Razag to fans of progression fantasy, evolution stories, and dragon-centric narratives. The story’s smooth prose, immersive perspective, and quick pacing make it an enjoyable and easy read. While the litRPG elements are currently light, they have the potential to add depth to the story as it progresses. If you’re looking for a fun and digestible fantasy with a unique premise, give Razag a try! - DeathwingminionRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I’m only a few chapters in, but as an introduction, it does exactly what it should. You don’t get a full map or a grand prophecy—just the basics of a new dragon being bron and thrown outside to defend for itself: who you are (sort of), where you are (somewhere dangerous), what you want (stay alive), and what’s in the way (basically everything). It's refreshingly straightforward without feeling empty.
The prose is where the story really shines. It’s clean, intentional, and doesn’t trip over itself trying to be clever. No filler, no fluff—just good, tight writing.
But this is Where its also i think is the weakest. their's not a lot going on in the character, story or even worldbuling side of things. We just fellow as our dragon hunts gets stronger and just see the numbers go up. While it is alright, its just isn't what i want in the whole story. Their need to be a somthing or a goal that our MC needs to strive for other than the immadiate needs of survival.
As I said before, Character-wise, the protagonist isn’t deep yet, but the concept is strong enough to carry the story. You feel what he feels, and that's a win. Worldbuilding is almost no existant so far.
Overall? I recommend it. Even if its alright for the genre. - Goldboi217Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Pretty entertaining story still in beginning but enjoyable can’t wait for more chapters. Would like for longer chapters but can’t complain
