Description

Woe is upon the town of Drezin. It knows it not. A magister had come on a hunt, invoking a prize beyond refusal and a secret not understood - one with consequences beyond the wildest estimation. Of course, no one could know that. Not even the vampire who the offer is made to. And the request was so easy: Help capture a variant demon that devours its victims through reflections. Take the payment in blood, then run before the past catches up with them.

That is of course, unless an opportunity presents itself to outrun said past. And none are more keen to do that than the immortal with millennia behind and centuries ahead. Or - as any descendant of the Hungerer ought to - devour it whole.

Expect: Unapologetically evil strong protagonist, fast pacing, a peek at fantasy from an angle not commonly discovered.

It's worth it. I read the entire thing in half an hour, with another five minutes for the surprise at the end, which is amazing, and a huge flex.
Also, the world building is incredibly cool, and I'm sad that I can't read more about this world.
The only criticism I have is that the world is somewhat ill-defined. I can't tell what it could even be - is it medieval, with fantasy elements? Magitech? Modern world with magic, ie Urban Fantasy? I can't tell, because it's never stated.
Though I imagine if it were, it wouldn't be a short story but a full blown book.
Nevertheless, it's very enjoyable. 10/10.
Minus half a star on the grammar because I spotted a few typos, and a few words that entirely didn't fit and I had to think of what the author could've meant. Probably because the autocorrect simply corrected an egregious typo into a completely different word.
But apart from that, it's perfect.

Практически идеально, но небольшие мелочи выбиваются в каждом блоке оценок.
Стиль шикарен и атмосферен, но иногда настолько зубодробителен, что прорваться довольно сложно. Тем не менее, такой стиль редко встретишь и он мне понравился. Грамматика хороша, ошибок не заметил, даже не смотря на сложный стиль, но вот причины использования некоторых слов я даже со словарём не понимал. Наверное, попытки понять, что автор имеет в виду в моменте - это самая большая моя сложность, возникшая при чтении, паруу обзацев я пропустил, так и не разобравшись.
Сюжету не хватило места в 8ми главах. Слишком быстрый переход к экшену из-за чего раскрытие тайны третьих потомков-вампиров выглядит не так эффектно. Но то, что автор смог успеть изложить мироустройство и у нас не возникло в конце каких-то вопросов по поводу того, "а что я только что прочитал?", - это круто.
Персонаж Реджинальда неплох, злодей как он есть, даже с небольшой мечтой, но вот второстепенные персонажи слабы. Да, их бы и не получилось раскрыть за 8 глав, и то, что они не являются картоном - это успех, но всё же за Артория обидно, из-за быстрого перехода к битве, мне не хватило немного, чтобы им проникнуться.
В целом же - все придирки незначительные, и я советую прочитать эту короткую историю. Она напомнила мне истории с закрученной мифлологией и магической системой, которые мне нравятся (самый яркий пример подобного - Повелитель Тайн). После прочтения появилось желание пойти читать онгоинг от этого автора.
