By day - desk job. By night - explorer. The theming. The tone. The mystery. Call me intrigued. Right from the off, I'm sunken-into the world — feeling just like Grace diving in hard with a nervous first step aboard a desolate ship. I'm fascinated. What happened aboard? Where will it go?  I'm excited to discover the rest of Grace's journey.

We start with Grace, a character that gets a brief but satisfying introduction, and we suffer with her at the betrayal that would cost her a lot of money. That is certainly a situation that is easily sympathized with. Then we get Chase, an interesting fellow that gets us hooked with a promise of nice old-school space fights that could happen in the future.
The main characters, along with the supporting crew, are well-developed and fleshed out. We don’t get confused with their actions, but agree that it’s something they would do. They are very much human and are easy to root for. With Grace, I got a feeling that I really want her to succeed.
The story is the main attraction, though. When I read it, I could tell it’s well-crafted and thought through. There haven’t been any exposition dumps. Instead, everything is nicely and slowly revealed piece by piece, just how I like it. There are points in the story that tease at something much bigger and that gives me - as a reader - a motivation to read more. Because I want to know! I want to find out if there are aliens goddammit!
I really liked that it’s heavy with action. There isn’t much introspection, but I didn’t feel it detracting from the story. We can tell when a character is frustrated, scared or excited because the author does an impressive job at showing that to us.
In the end, besides small grammar errors, there is nothing bad that I can say about it. I feel the author’s care and passion for the genre in the fantastic descriptions of starships or space in general. They are well-imagined and constructed in a way that doesn’t break immersion.
I advise any fan of sci-fi to check it out. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

The author does a great job of delivering sci-fi action and world building with some fresh ideas with classic tropes and themes. I personally love sci-fi that has a history so that not everything is shiny and new. This world has history and depth, and so many cool secrets! And I just love the FMC, Grace.

Okay so here’s the run-down. I initially wanted to drop this after Chapter 1, but I gave some lenience here with the understanding that sometimes works just take a bit of time to get rolling. In this case, I feel I have not been satisfied, so an early review is nonetheless necessary.
To give credit where it’s due, this does feel like it is ambitious and has a good sense of scale. The spatial awareness can be good in places and at times you do get that heavy sci-fi feel. I also think that in terms of what literally occurs, it’s not a terrible skeleton to work off of. My main advice to the author here is to avoid the idea that this story is actually anywhere near professional completion. This is on a level of many other RR novels within this genre and it should get the service it deserves to bring it to traditional publishable standards.
Also the characters aren’t too bad on the surface. They’re serviceable for the story. I think when you introduce two POVs early on the reader can buckle themselves into a ride that will last a while, so long as the author doesn’t burn out of course. It applies directly to this story.
My main observation coming into this is that the work is in a sense quite big. It does feel like something that’s going to take a long time to conclude, which is often the case when authors tackle multi-POV stories (Grace and Nathan). There are rarely any cases where works like this end up being great, because the author is normally not at the skill level needed to command one POV, nevermind two. This is not a jab at the author or anything, but there were times in this story where I was regularly confused about what was going on, where we were, and how any of it fed into pre-established components, if they even did at all. In Chapter 1 for example, which was the primary reason I wanted to stop, the pacing was meandering and things just didn’t feel tight enough to where I was engaged. Things are undeniably atmospheric, but the author keeps tipping their pe

This story is starting out great. It really shows that the author has already written three other books. The opening scene is spooky and intriguing, making me want to know the story of the ruined starliner. Part of me is screaming 'Keep Looking' and the other half is saying 'Get the hell out!'
The descriptions are great, the premise is solid, and we got right into the story in chapter one. I'm going to follow along and may come back to this review, but it's looking great at this point. I've read hundreds of sci-fi stories over the years, and happy to have found this one.

I've only read the first 10 chapters, but the story hooked me immediately and it just keeps getting more intriguing.
On its own, the story deserves 5 stars, but there are quite a few typos and oddly constructed sentences that slow down my reading, thus the 4-star rating at this time. (As an editor, it's almost impossible for me to overlook such things.) But the story is well worth reading!
Once I finish reading the whole thing, I'll do a full Advanced Review, taking into account any editing that's been done in the meantime.
