Project Soul: Prelude seems to be a story about two relatively young adventurers who happen to be a (loving) couple on their quest to chase an old (fairy)tale that may or may not hold more than a grain of truth.
Style:
I really like the author's style of writing, even if it can be a bit hard to follow the story at times. It is very descriptive and it's not hard to imagine how the surroundings look while leaving the reader enough room for her/his own imagination. A minor critique in this regard (although it may just be my personal style) is that it's sometimes hard to figure out who's speaking in dialogue. At times, it is the character from the previous paragraph while most often, it is the character in the current paragraph. I'd also critique the PoV switch with some sort of '* * *' or a line, but it's rectified in the latter chapters. (Perhaps edit the first ones as well?)
Plus points for having PoVs for both MCs.
Story:
The story (so far) follows the couple of Rayze and Ionyr, a woman with a distant (but perhaps attainable wish) and a restless dreamer who lets nothing get in the way of chasing that dream. (I for one do not believe for a second he'd be capable of settling down, even if Rayze's dream came true.)
Build one's world through tales and diary entries is a nice touch for sure. Very elegant.
Ionyr's brother is bound to become a main plot point in the future.
Grammar: I'm not a native english speaker. The grammar seems decent to good, but it's a bit hard to read at times. I can certainly tell what the author's trying to convey with her/his words.
Characters: The chemistry and little teases between Ionyr and Rayze are hearwarming to read and the events of Chapter 4 certainly emphasize their relationship nicely.
Both seem to carry their (unsolved) burdens that are sure to haunt them in the days and years to come, but I'm confident to say that they might be able to overcome it together.
I like both and I'm curious to see ho - NixxyxoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Friend!
Of course I had to sign up on here and give you feedback! Luckily for me, I get to read this ahead of being posted. Now. Colour my bias but I think you're doing an amazing job in character, portrayal and story depth.
1. Attention to detail
This can also relate to world building.
Your execution in getting the reader to fully understand what is going on from the very first chapter. Of course there will be surprises along the way, foreshadowing, but what great story doesnt have that? The attention here is precise, this is the moment that pulls you in, and pulled in i was!
2. Character building
I am excited to see where this story will take the characters and how they have grown not only as children but into adults. There is a lot you can play with regarding past, present and future elements. This is a great start, forming the images in ones mind, telling that story of whats to be. I want to read more.
3. World building
As mentioned in attention to detail. This is something i look forward to seeing. So far you get a glimpse of what could have been, a what may have been situation. I would love to see more of this, the aspect detail of the horizons and the bigger picture, without falling into that trap of giving too much away. The key to detail in world building is that people see it as they read it. I would add a little more to future chapters of this.
4. Grammar
I would like to say im a grammar student haha but sadly it is something i have to go back on, usually getting carried away in the story. Considering your story, i see no errors and your words of use very valuable for the scenes that unfold within the story. You will continue improving the more you write. Not that, this needs improving, i think you have excuted this.
5. Imagination
This is something i am excited about reading. I am not much of a reader and it takes a lot to get me hooked, but i am excited to see where these characters go and where this story leads them!
6. Execution
The best part is that - RavensFantasyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style/Story: The story is set up well as the story introduces the legend the story follows within the first chapter. There we get a bit of information in regards to the Creators and the history of the world they live in. Following this we get to see the world open up as we follow two of our lovely characters on a wondrous adventure.
The overall flow of the story is continuous and consistent between chapters as the author does well to maintain the third person perspective and what tense is being used. The overall sentence structure is done well. Chapter length is also great!
Description wise - the story does well at setting scenes and describing how characters behave.
Worldbuilding wise - the history that we get at the beginning of the story clearly aids in our main reason for adventure. The bits that we have been given so far make me interested in wanting to read more about the world that is being created.
In all, the story and style are done well!
Grammar: I noticed very little to no grammar mistakes within the story. Overall, it is written well.
Characters: Our main characters that the story follows is that of a husband (Ionyr) and wife (Rayza). I have enjoyed reading about their relationship so far. Their connection seems real and their history gives me a bit of the feels as I wish them the best. Rayza is probably one of my favorite characters so far as I have enjoyed her overall personality. Ionyr, I hope you don’t lead the both of ya into trouble with your yearning for adventure, you’ve suffered enough haven’t ya?
The other characters of brief mention, Rudd for example, is an interesting one. The way he is written it makes it seem as if he is either cursed or perhaps a bigger part of the story that involves the Creators. I’m interested to read more to figure out more on his character.
In all, to me the characters were done well and their behavior and relationships seem realistic to me.
In Summary: In conclusion, I am happy I came across this story as I have com - ZosmyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a hard story to hard to review.
The reasoning being that so far, it's been good- but we're only in the setup phase. Hasn't really gotten to what the blurb has promised.
Now, I can't take off stars for an unfinished/short story- literally half the novels here are like that. However, it does make it harder to review accurately, so I ask that you take that into account. I'll probably come back and re-review in the future.
Style: Very long/through descriptions, which can be taken either ways. You could say that it's a positive, since it gives more details. Or you could say it's a negative, since it makes the story longer and more difficult to read. Personally I was fine with it, though I did find myself getting bored at times.
Story: Needs more time to develop- we haven't reached the uniqueness that was promised. Going off of strictly what I have access to right now, it's good (events happen, lead to other events happening) but it doesn't strike me as different from any other story.
Character: They seem like reasonable (or weird, but that's on purpose) people. The MC(s) are given backstories and motivations. I would personally never do what they decided to do with their lives, but I can definitely get behind it.
Final Thoughts: This is one of the very few review swaps that I could consider putting at 5 stars. Obv I haven't done that yet- reasoning being that I'm looking at how the execution of the uniqueness plays out.
