Primeval Champion [A Colony-Building LitRPG]

Description
Note: this story is on hiatus and pending a rewrite.
The new world before me is the deadliest in the known cosmos.
This world is a world of towering forests that teem with deadly predators, of sunless skies that crackle with ceaseless lightning, of shattered mountains that spew forth endless fire and ash.
I will use its power to nurture and strengthen the elves.
The air is ripe with primeval mana, and the creatures are bountiful with power-granting essence. In the wake of the calamity that destroyed our homeworld, I lead my people here knowing that if we can survive, we can prosper like never before.
And one day, we will learn to call this new worldhome.
Now I go forth to make ready for the arrival of my people.
The spell that brought me here stripped me of my levels, but not my class: I am the[Primeval Champion], strongest of the elves, as ancient as I am mighty.
I am the one who was chosen.
And I will not fail.
Expect:
Mostly Solo Action:Action usually follows the progression of a solo champion, with occasional companions or large-scale battles.
Combination Powers:Fuse aspects to create new skills. Rank up skills so that they can support more and stronger aspects.
Kingdom Growth:A persistent element will be the growth of the elf colony into a civilization. Elves are immortal, so expect longer timespans once things really get going.
Exploration:Discoveries await! Explore wildlife and ecosystems that range from the familiar to the bizarre. Make contact with other intelligent life and civilizations—ranging from hostile to indifferent to friendly.
Inspired By: Hero-centered strategy games like Warcraft or Age of Wonders, “primal” settings like Pandora from Avatar or Jund/Naya from Magic the Gathering.

- GaiaOctaviaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was a little nervous starting this based on the other reviews about a rough beginning, but did anyway because the premise sounded interesting and the author's other work is really good. Since those reviews were written though, the author has responded to the feedback and added a prologue giving some backstory and reworked the initial chapters, so don't be put off by the earlier reviews, this story is absolutely brilliant, beautifully written and quietly profound.
The prologue hints at the deep-time backstory of the ancient characters that we only gradually and satisfyingly begin to piece together as bit by bit is revealed to us, and then we are straight into the first survival arc, with well-written action. The story gets even better from the second arc, as the rest of the elves enter the new world, so we get a whole host of new characters.
The magical system is rather complicated and is revealed piece by piece as she uses them, which is a steep learning curve which I found a little confusing at first. However once it is all laid out and you get your head around it, you find it is an incredibly well thought out and elegantly designed system that is extremely satisfying and clever, with excellent world-building possibilities inherent to the implications of it - which are very quickly made use of. The world-building is vast in scope, and while we are only seeing a tiny piece of it, there is the sense of huge expanses and mysteries out of sight.
Character:
A real strength of the story. In the initial arc this is limited, as it starts as a solo survival story, but once the other elves arrive we begin to see the deep complexities in both the MC and the side charcters, with centuries of love and tension and rivalry and philosophical disagreement - often all just between a single pait of characters! The author incredibly beautifully shows how complex a realationship might be over such long lives. Some of the conversations are simple on the surface, yet show rather than t - scatty2010Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is, so far as I've experienced, incredibly unique. The worldbuilding is amazing and beautifully written, the character development thus far is intriguing, and the history that's been hinted at is an amazing hook. There's a lot of good here, and if you like LITRPG's, amazing fantasy worlds with rich history and characters, then this is absolutely for you. Give it a go.
I'm in love with the history of the MC, and what few hints there are in regards to her past are seriously intriguing. I want to know more about her, and each little bit that's added on just leaves me more curious than before. It's impressive to me how skilled the Author is with character developement and pacing.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of the world the Author cooked up come to life!
There were some negatives I covered some time ago, but most, if not all, of the concerns I had have been adressed, fixed, and/or improved upon in one way or another. So I've updated my review and rating.
Ps. Leaving most of my old review in a spoiler for posterity.
There are some negatives I'd like to cover, but before I do I'd like to say this : Give the story a chance. It takes a while to piece things together and start to even begin to understand how the world the Author is creating works, but it's utterly fascinating once it starts falling into place. If you enjoy LITRPG's and amazing fantasy worlds with rich history and characters, this is absolutely for you. Give it time. It's worth it.
With that said, I'll cover the major issues I've found.
First, the time required to start understanding things. Starting with the summary, not much can be gleaned in regards to what this story is about. It's written from a first person perspective which, while it may work, doesn't do this story justice. From what I've seen, the Author could have written a more traditional summary that could hook readers in with ease. If they avoid the unique terms and phrases the story is riddled with.
Speaking of, those are the p - the one who carries the swordRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5boa história, bons personagens até agora e um protagonista muito simpático, gostei muito do sistema e do mundo apresentado, além de achar fascinante como ele está se desenrolando, pois não leio muitas histórias que giram em torno da construção de cidades da maneira que está sendo feita. Isso me fascina
- SjilajRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0An interesting premise with intriguing worldbuilding that makes you want to see and learn more about basically everything. The lack of exposition at the start (especially regarding how the system works) makes for some confusion, but picking it up as we go works and does add something in itself.
Fairly well-written and as-of-yet well-executed, though kinda drawn-out (we're still on the first day, even if admittedly a lot happened and it is a very critical time).
Still getting started, but all-in-all definitely worth checking out. - thewitnessRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Love the writing itself, your characters and the world building - the only problem is the delivery with the beginning of the story being completely tell and no show for specificity the system and worldbuilding (despite doing much better on character development etc) making it a slog to get through to the much better story. A rewrite of that and its potential is way up there.
- uxelRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The start of a novel is usually the most important. Unfortunately I dont like the start of this one.
The novel begins with a action sequence thats only interrupted by info dump and then resumes. This wouldnt be a problem in itself, but the info dump is about the system and contains no actual info for the reader. We have no idea who mc is, why mc is there and what mc even tries to do. Only that we are aparently witnessing a fight plus some maths.
Now the system... Usually the systems purpose in a story is to allow the author to very easily give the reader dopamine, because number goes up. Its also usually a cheap tool by an author to quantify the strength of 2 characters/enemies. This novels system fails at both because you would probaly require a spreadsheet to comprehend it. Since I cannot be asked to do so all the system talk essentially becomes filler to me.
So yeah... To complex of a system and no context provided to set the stage of the story.
I have no idea if the later story/plot once there actually is one would be enough to carry this story but those 2 things are big weaknesses that will turn many people away.
What I can say is that your action with the spearfight was very well written. It was enjoyable to read that. - NoTime..Royal Road★★ 2.0The pace of this story is incredibly slowly and it is simply lacking in depth and detail. There is very little in terms of actual world building and character building,
Overall it is quite bland and honestly nothing is really unique about this story. The powers, abilities and more are all quite generic with nothing special
