Description

Leo is a Grangari, a race of people who live in small "prides" and worship a beast-god named Rathanni. Rathanni's laws guide how Grangari think about themselves and live their lives. One these laws, Communion, is a core part of Grangari culture, in which every five years each member of the pride is required to duel a lion to the death. Leo is 17, the first year that Grangari are required to participate in Communion.

As the night of Communion comes closer, day by day, Leo is torn between the chaos of his internal emotions and his desire to maintain control at his father's direction. While he performs his pridely duties, his faith in his god and himself ebbs and flows. In this struggle, the nature of his connections with his friends, family, and love interest morph in varying directions. When the day of Communion finally arrives, after his chaotic emotional journey, Leo is forced to truly recognize himself for who he his.
