- LordofthepiesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only at chapter two, but the premise is interesting and the grammar is good. Looking forward to future chapters!
- BlaxconioxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very much enjoyed the fiction. Kept my attention I read it in no more than two days, reading in my head as if aloud.
Style
Enjoyable.
Ialicized portions are not consistent which is a minor detraction.
Good on the author for believing in a Cause, but they've fallen into the seeming phallacy that they avoid in all other parts of their writing; the complexity of so many things and situations are conveyed wonderfully, with good and evil for several situations fleshed out, except regarding their Cause. It is apparently black and white there, which can somewhat alienate the reader depending on beliefs.
Story
Fantastic describes it well. An interesting scenario that could most certainly overlay reality. A sense of realism and wonder is captured to the reader's delight, with only slight exposition.
The setting is well-fleshed out, there are enough characters to tell the story without needlessly complicating it, and it has a satisfying conclusion.
Grammar
Naught to say. I'm not sure there was even one grammar hangup in my read.
Character
Love the characters, brought to life in many ways The story was not hurt by any personality, but it seems some were excessive or lacking at times. That said, I doubt that it would be improved by changes. - HaelamonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0To avoid spoilers, I will be vague. And I shall use bullet points for conciseness.
PROS:
1. The main character isn't static, and has a logical and investing character arc.
4. In short order characters developed and showed differences and actual personalities. And give actual different perspectives and thought processes to enhance the plot.
2. The representation of technology and development was interesting, understandable, and enjoyable.
3. Watching the bad guys get predictably owned was absolutely incredible.
4. Some light philosophical debate and motive delving to engage the reader and enhance the logical reasoning for the progression.
CONS:
1. Not enough, I want more, but understand that it'd disturb the actually reasonable ending.
2. Roughly 3-4 grammatical mistakes.
That's all the cons in my admittedly sleep deprived opinion.
Read it. It's not going to consume your life.
More rambling to reach the word requirement. The author made a description of a microcosm that developed into a macro-focused story based on technological and industry based progression. With some character profession as well. Doing so with a style that was descriptive but not overly so, wasn't afraid to make reasonable time skips, was gently enjoyable, and overall exemplary of a properly made and well thought out story. - IsTiredAndNeedsToPoopRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reads great.
Great plot so far.
Can't wait for more! - ZethuronRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of the greatest Sci-Fi i have read on this site, and it stays close to the roots of what Sci-Fi should be, while also expanding on it in a unique way.
The main character is the Human AI Nikola who boots up on a unfinished asteroid outpost, after getting it started, she finds out humanity has been wiped out and she is the last hope of them having any chance of further existence.
Considering all the other characters so far have been AI's, the author has done a great job at making them have some kind of personality, this does really show in the early part of the story.
The plot describes the aftereffects of the end of humanity. How the AI Nikola goes to rebuild and expand while finding out what has ended humanity and how to prevent that from ever happening again. There are just so many parts to the story, from the beginning, discovering what happened, the reasons for the fall, the start of the revenge, the war. An important point to the overall plot as a whole is the beginning of each chapter that describes a event of the past, this helps up to unvravel the mystery of what happened even further.
The story has some of the best constructed science-fiction technology i have read so far. This only shows just how much effort the author spent into researching so the technology makes sense, without going tooo much in it works because it is Science-Fiction. The technology is well described, atleast when the story focuses on it.
The author is essentially writing multiple storylines at once, the main storyline with the AI's, the background information dumps about the fall, and the memories of Nikola, this is normally very difficult to pull off, but the author has done it extremely well.
Grammar is near flawless, there are next to no typo's or mistakes to be found at all.
By all accords, Post Human is a great Sci-Fi story, written by a author thats very talented at writing Science Fiction. I do highly recommend any fans of Sci-fi to read this, this also does count for - An_Amazing_UsernameRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I've had a weird relationship with story, I'd started it several times but I never got past the first chapter or too. Then recently I was looking for books and saw this one and though, I should give it chance.
I can say with the upmost of certainty that I am glad I did. I started and finished the story in a single sitting and I noticed no major flaws in it.
A story will never perfectly satisfy every one but this is a story that likely will work for most. I feel at points things were inadequately explained but it didn't take away from the overall story at all.
I also believe that the author, while ending at a reasonable place, didn't fully explore the universe they had created or the actions the MC had taken. I feel as though the author could've done at least one or two short stories that expanded on the story. Still the choice not to doesn't hurt the story at all. - Ombre37Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Everything is in the tittle,
It's the epythom of sci-fi you can find grounded, logical and without pesky deus-ex or plot armor making no sense.
Everything as a mean, a reason, a goal, a logic behind. It's well build, with great worldbuilding. Good pacing if sometime a little slow. A main character who is NOT perfect and make error, but learn from them.
The only part who botter me is how idiotic, narrow minded and inapt to adapt and grow, berref of all scientific curiosity are the Aliens.
The whole "human are incredible" as alway make me cringe.
Good read, realy, try it ! - ToldiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The premise of the story really drew me in. The technical bits during the first part of the story left me a bit conflicted - on one hand I enjoy a lived in world, on the other hand a good chunk also felt superflous. That being said, the story was definitely worth the read.
- precinctomegaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I avoided reading Post Human for quite some time as, despite being a sci-fi fan, I felt like it wasn't the story I wanted to read.
I was wrong.
This is a short novel by Royal Road standards, easily readable in a single weekend. The narrative arc is not complex and the cast of characters is limited. The heart of the story lies in its exploration of a diversity of relatively hard sci-fi concepts into which the author has done an excellent job of research.
Stylistically, the author is deft rather than sparkling (although there are signs that he is deliberately restraining himself due to the nature of the story), which does have the benefit of allowing the plot to move along at a rapid clip.
The story is pretty linear and will be familiar to anyone versed in r/HFY ideas, but that doesn't make it a bad story. It could have been longer, with more ups and downs and twists and turns. It could have explored the MC's backstory in a more meaningful way. But not a word is wasted and the pace and momentum drive the reader along with only a few diversions to marvel at the science in the fiction.
A few grammar and typo errors here and there, but nothing that can't be easily overlooked.
Most of the characters in the story, due to the nature of the story, are versions of the MC and although the characters are well drawn and sympathetic, if I had any real criticism of the story as a whole, it would be that the potential that the set-up offers is never fully explored. The MC has a very traumatic backstory and, whilst we do get to see it, and whilst it does have some bearing upon the narrative, it's largely just offered as a reminder that the MC is (or at least was) human.
Overall, Post Human was a very enjoyable place to spend a few hours and the author's vision of humanity's potential is one I could definitely enjoy. And the author admits that this is an "alpha" version of the story. I think a good editorial partner could guide the author to at least double the length of the story as - K9Royal Road★★★★ 3.5I read quite a bit of this story but couldn’t get through it. Although I’ll make it clear that this is no fault in the writing, it’s written quite nicely actually. Im simply picky with what I like and this doesn't suit my tastes.
It’s a good book, but as the title says, just not to my taste. Would I recommend it to someone? Maybe, but for certain I would never insult or belittle it.
Ive given it as good a rating as I can, and I wish for your success. Good luck to all, happy writing to authors, and in case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night ;)
