Pokémon: Source (Pokemon Time Travel Fix-It)
Community Rating
Description
For years, hidden in the shadows of society, an organisation rose up, extending its reach throughout several regions. It’s eyes spread across its five leaders, manipulating, lying, destroying, creating, all pointing to one impossible, yet oh so tantalising, goal.
To Harness the Power of Evolution.
The clock struck, and mysteries of Source were unchained. In a matter of days, what once remained of civilisation was nothing more than ruin.
Three years after the Source Storm unleashed, Ash and his remaining pokemon sacrificed their lives in one final suicidal battle against the Conduit, the centre of the Storm. In death, he passed the Veil, and met the Creator, who sent him back to change the past.
Whether in Destruction or Creation.
Upon awakening on Mount Silver, Ash finds himself keeping his adult body, yet his pokemon have devolved into Charmander, Froakie, and Pichu.
Now ten years in the past, Ash and his pokemon must unravel a decades’ long conspiracy spanning the regions. Armed with nothing but minimal information and his wits, Ash must Go Forth, and Prevail.

- zakariafRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Before reading this novel, I was bored and decided to read yet another short Pokémon fanfiction, mostly to pass the time and not really to enjoy it. What can I say besides how wrong and impressed I was? To put it simply, I was proven wrong twice: Firstly, the story is amazing, and it is the best fan fiction I've read; and secondly, the chapters are humongous, making it feel more like a 200-chapter long fan-fic than just a 14-chapter long one.
Story:
Even if technically this story is a fan-fiction, I feel like doing it a disservice by calling it so because, in my opinion, it has the same quality as a top novel. I would say this story is what Pokémon would be if it were meant for an older audience. We have an old, mature, and traumatized Ash (Red) who has a second chance to change the past. Death is omnipresent, which helps increase the already realistic setting. Real stakes are in place: it's not a matter of winning a league and trying in the next one, it's about doing it or losing everything. The succession of events is coherent, and there seems to be no plot hole or such. Lastly, the world-building is rich and does well using the Pokémon lore without straying far from the original Pokémon universe.
Character:
The story, in general, puts to light high-potential characters from the original world that didn't have much exposition rather than using the overexposed ones and changing them fundamentally. Every character seems unique, fleshed out, and has a purpose. The main antagonist is a real threat to the MC and the world. The other antagonists are organized and don't act stupidly to make the MC shine brighter. Red's Pokémon have well-developed personalities and backstories that make them appear more as main secondary characters than just Pokémon.
Style score:
Immersive storytelling that makes the reader happy or sad, delirious or lucid, hopeful or desperate not for the protagonist but as if he were the protagonist. The scene endings and starts are well-written, and th - EngineCrankMailboxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0But for one thing:
I need a map. Because the gray war supposedly consisted of Kanto (Japan), Johto (Japan), Hoenn (Japan), Sinnoh (Japan)… and then also Orre and Unova and Kalos (Arizona, New York, and France?) HOW DI THEY HAVE A GREAT WAR WHEN THEY DONT EVEN HAVE PLANES TO TRAVEL THAT FAR THAT FAST?! ORRE WAS BURNED BY KALOS GROUND TROOPS?! IN A ONE-WEEK ACTION FROM KANTO TO ORRE AND BACK?! HOWWWWWJSJCUSHAHAI - NaruBroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A ten out of ten story, in my opinion, and I really enjoy the battles, the world building, the pacing, the grammar, the plot, and everything else about this one. It keeps me interested and wanting more. Currently my top favorite story. Thank you for this story and keep up the good work.
- RestingSloth HiddenSnackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of those fan fictions that attempts to immerse the reader in those deep dark undertones that exist in the hidden corners of the source materials without abandoning the light-hearted adventure that drew us into the franchise in the first place. It's incredibly rare to find one which is ambitious, unbiased, and written well enough that the author can actually pull it off. Fortunately, this is one of the best! The chapter size was daunting at first, so I was hesitant to bump it to the top of my 'lets give it a shot' pile, but now I'm really glad I did and am looking forward to the next updates :)
The original, new, and unique story elements and characters are equal parts fun, compelling, and frighteningly plausible given the craziness of the ancient histories and mad science of the pokemon world. Reading from the various perspectives is, surprisingly, becoming one of my favourite aspects of the story since it's so well done without being too frequent, one dimensional, or self-centric (by not using me/my/I every sentence). A suspenseful weave of mystery is another strength in the flow of progression; some show immediate pay-offs, others take a few chapters, and the rest promise to be game changers far into the past's new future.
Whatever the category, I have to give it 5's, even the parts I don't necessarily care for, because they're just that good. Sorry if I over hyped it for you, give it a shot anyway.
Edit: after reading many negative reviews on my all time favourite story here on RR (still close to 5 rating with many vocal bad reviewers *shrug*), it suddenly feels important to clarify that a select amount of this author's writing wont be understandable until much later, so endure the confusion and push onward. The characters also have some pretty interesting and damaged psychologies so anyone looking for a basic UberChad MurderHobo will be somewhat disappointed. There is definitely UltraViolence, lots of action, and a dominating MC who is a literal hobo - StrikingEngineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Amazing story! I picked this up about 3 days ago and absolutely blazed through it, I’ve read a lot of Pokemon fics, and I can say that this is one that probably goes the most in depth, I am also a psychology major and so the PTSD portion Ash goes through is very interesting to read, can’t wait to read more though it kills me there aren’t more chapters out right now. Thanks for writing an awesome story!

This fic is something which made me look for updates every few days and emotionally attached... Interlude of Fuji is hands down THE best I've read period... How has this not getting the traction it deserves is beyond me..
- puregarnetRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Finished the ACT 1. Man, I am super surprised I liked this as much as I have. Everything about it was primed to be the type of fic I dislike. The super edgy war hardened Ash time travelling back to save the world premise. The angsty ness. The seemingly grimdark nature of the planned story. The author’s own admission to say while he plans to not be edgy, his writing tend towards the serious side. I was expecting some grizly, gritty, grimdark, angsty hallucination of a story. And well, it’s surpringly not. I wouldnt go as far as to say it is the complete opposite of that or that there is a shining beacon of hope and optimism in the story or anything. But yeah. It’s somehow hovering above the line going into grimdark territory. I’m impressed.
What carries this feat off is the author’s extreme care and preperation going into and writing the story. They have long notes, research and a big focus on the characters personalities, motivations and how these would react when collided with the external world. This is no level 1000 Ash coming back in time to wreck his enemies macho style. There is so much character exploration within and with others on how Ash could become Red. Pretty captivating I must say. And luckily, we see as Red slooooowly heals from his lone wolf self hatred state. Slowly. Likely to take multiple Acts to really get somewhere. Not sure about the other characters though. I am uncertain on if the author is going to do any paralel things or fate is for everyone to die in new ways from Red’s pressense direction. There is a lot of miroring simularoties between Red and his personal demon after all. And lots of talk about fate and how freedom is a lie. We shall see.
Spoilery Recap
Red only has devolved Pichu, Charmeleon and Frogadier or something. Travelling with Salvore who’s Silver from TR. mentoring him. Red got chosen by arceus to come back and stop team source from destroying the world with the power of unlimited evolution. Survivors guilt. Pichu is hella ma
