- ColonelSlandersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my first review on this site and may be a little biased, but I have a soft spot for Pokemon Platinum, since it was my first game of the series, and I also think Ash's journey throughout the Sinnoh region was the last time the anime was at its best.
This fanfiction blends both the story elements of the game and the anime perfectly throughout the MC's journey, while also making the battles imaginative and diverse (no four-move limit on Pokemon moves), making it feel like you're watching the anime all over again, while it also keeping elements of the competitive games for more thoughtful battles.
The characterisation of the original cast characters is also well done and like in the games, time actually appears to move (Ash is 13 [a miracle, I know]). The only thing that may put off some readers may be the odd expletive here and there, most likely an effort to add some realism to this world, especially since the MC is reincarnated from the real world, but ignoring that, this is one of the best fanfictions I am in the process of reading. - LiteraryWhoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't know what it is about this story that sets it apart, but It nevertheless feels very different from any other fiction in this (very niche) genre. I think part of it is that Luna is not particularly remarkable, and most importantly, isn't really trying to be.
In many ways, she really is just a girl having a Pokemon journey, like any of us normies could be - NomDePlumeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5If you like Fuggman's Borne of Desire, you'd probably like this fic (It's not directly inspired by his work, just in the same genre). The quality is similar and I find myself very invested in where the story is headed.
Pinnacle Platinum draws on a deep knowledge of the pokemon world to create something new and interesting. The story itself is primarily about the joy of discovery. Using pokemon canon as a jumping off point, Windsweptcity expands the pokemon world in a way that feels natural and realistic. Taveling alongside Luna and her friends, you learn about local ways of living and how cultures have formed around the unique environments of Pokemon, where people have had to work around and alongside (friendly) walking disasters.
The author has a gift for writing exciting fight scenes where the action both supports character growth and is just plain-old fun. You can tell that he has some knowledge of competitive play and I personally enjoy how he weaves clever strategy into Luna's developing style of battle.
I do find Luna's apparent (lack of) knowledge about the pokemon world jarring. She retains extensive pokemon knowledge from her past life, but doesn't always know common facts that somebody who grew up in the pokemon world should. It's pretty easy to ignore for the most part, but integrating knowledge in a more natural way for new fans of the series could be done more smoothly if the author ever wanted to do a re-write.
All the characters (even the pokemon) have very distinct personalities and their in-story actions always reflect their individual motivations. For example, Luna especially is a bit of a dunce when it comes to people, so I have to laugh when she says something stupid and is left scratching her head when people don't take her words how she meant them. Sometimes the side characters can be a little annoying (looking at you Ursula), but it's clearly intentional and the story's pacing is fast enough that we never linger too long on specific characters - OogaChoogaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I really want to like this story but it keeps disconnecting me from it by mentioning game mechanics. The author obviously spent a lot of time playing the games or doing research so there's not any inconsistencies. The MC has a large amount of Pokemon knowledge from her past life but almost no Pokemon knowledge from her current incarnation. Despite growing up with a gym trainer as a parent she seems to have picked up little to no tactics or strategies for battles despite having planned to be trainer from the start.
What is my main problem with this story is the mention of game mechanics. The MC is constantly trying to compare reality with the game and seems to miss simple tactics that would be blatantly obvious in that world. Like dodging, that is just something that would be very clearly necessary. Also there are a couple of mentions her trying to treat it like she would in the the game. With the turn based combat and high levels stomping lower levels. That doesn't translate very well to the more realistic Pokemon world.
I think the story is good and the characters have depth that many other Pokemon stories are lacking. It does a good job of expanding the world with schools and industries changing with the inclusion of Pokemon. There's a lot of lore that is completely original and interesting to read. Well original to me I am not that versed in the minute details of Pokemon towns.
I would say it's worth the read. - ZromakRoyal Road★★★ 3.03 stars for inconsistency. Main characters knowledge is not consistent, she is disrespected and walked over frequently and overall does not stand up for herself. Had a really Interesting start that feels like a let down. Reviews need 50 words so this is just some random filler, similar to a lot of this story.

Why did you have to send that little brat with her? Sorry I was enjoying the story until then. I never had a positive impression of him. But the story was great until then. It was well put together and I could see the makings of a great story but him tagging along just ruined it for me. All he does is babel and ct like a know it all. He might be different in your story but I just can't let myself get further just to find out he is the same. But I am glad you ,made him look like a failure.
