Pawn Shop Dungeon (A Dungeon Core Progression)

Description
Keeping the rent paid and the lights on is enough excitement for Rick and Jimmy, the mostly honest, crass-yet-loveable owners of Purple Sky Pawn. But when a customer brings in a strange jewel, neither of them could have guessed how much more exciting their lives were about to get.
Faster than you can say "You never know what's gonna come through that door," Rick had been sucked into the gemstone, becoming Earth's first dungeon core... and if that wasn't bad enough, they just set off the System Integration, throwing the whole world into complete chaos.
Now, if they want to survive in their new reality and save everyone they care about, they're going to need to work together. After all, family comes first.

An exhilarating journey of courage and resilience! This captivating tale weaves intricate plotlines, vibrant characters, and breathtaking landscapes into a seamless tapestry of adventure. With every twist and turn, the story grips your heart, leaving you yearning for more. A must-read for all fantasy enthusiasts - Justin MarksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyed getting caught up on this and was disappointed I got to the end of the posted chapters. It's a great story with well written characters and a well done system. Just enough challenge and stuff to be tense without going overboard. The personalities of the the dungeon creatures are really well done. It's gonna be cool to see them develop. Looking forward to seeing what's next.
- SwordofmytriumphRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love dungeon core stories. It’s my favorite genre, so I’ve read a lot of them, and so far this one is very promising.
Basically a pawn shop owner gets turned into a dungeon and this kicks off the system apocalypse. His business partner, Jimmy, becomes his dungeon administrator. The grammar is really good, very few errors, and the characters are interesting and three dimensional. I’m really excited to see where this story goes. - The Real MorningstarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Although insulting to the pawn profession which my family has experience in, this is a fun take on the dungeon and system genres. The characters seem a little contrived, one being almost a clone of Chumlee from Pawn Stars. System abilities are a little comedic with exploding golf balls and parrying multiple bullets with a machete.
- kelemitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
I would say this is a well written story and well developed within its Genre. It mixes the dungeon core idea with the Earth apocalypse (system version) although the system either is completely unimportant and pretty much is only used as a tool for the main focus of the story, or will slowly become much more pertinent. At this time, the system does not seem to be of any focus or purpose and seems to be just a method for the dungeon to grow, the main focus of progression is on the dungeon and there is no mystery to the system at all.
It does well to entertain and has the reader wondering what is happening next pretty firmly. The story only has one real major flaw which I will detail in the character score, but the rest of it is a fun read, everything flowing well together and driving the reader to know more.
Style:
The author has a good style, and it is easy to read and enjoy. I can't say anything that jumps out as amazing, but like many things of this nature, the style of writing can be good in the sense of "wow, it enhances the story so much" or it can be good in the sense of "wow, I didn't even notice it, nothing detracts from the story at all." The author's style is of the second kind, and a most excellent kind it is. (The first kind is very rare and often only 'useful' for short sections of a longer novel or for a short story... so... this is an EXCELLENT score! (My opinion)).
Grammar:
Nothing to say. Which, as above, is excellent. I didn't notice a single misspelling (that I can remember at the time of this writing, but even as I write this... I think I found one mistake in 50 chapters! O.o)
So, excellent in grammar.
Story:
The story is well written and a fun read. It is a melding of dungeon core and Earth apocalypse, but it also seems to be hinting at some 'kingdom' building in which the dungeon will begin building his own faction and base of operations. (Which fits PERFECTLY for this kind of story mainly because well... dungeon... can't move! Only exp - AkmedrahRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Pawn Shop Dungeon is a fantastic piece of ongoing Dungeon Core media! I really enjoy the fact that the 'system' in place did not immediately remove the ability of the MC to speak and interact with other characters.
The world is young, and there is plenty of room for the characters and the world to grow into an epic adventure. I look forward to seeing where this story goes. - D.M. Rhodes (Razzmatazz)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Pawn Shop Dungeon (A Dungeon Core Progression), written by author Bird Brain, is a dungeon-core litRPG story about a sleazy pawnshop/owner who gets turned into a dungeon. The premise is unique, and the characters are the exact kind of people you would expect to be running a struggling pawnshop, with good chemistry between the two of them. The writing is good and the numbers-go-up, what more could anyone want, except free infinite pizza?
Go on and give it a fair shot; it’s fun! =) - Vic_PieRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0After ten chapters I can honestly say this is a compelling, enjoyable dungeon core story. As of yet the characters don't feel overly distinct from each other, but we're still in early stages and insofar as I'm concerned they're all discernable due to their roles in the dungeon. The plot has begun to ramp up and there's a major event only a few days out (in story time) that should really change things up and make everything more exciting.
Rules are clear, not overly complicated to keep in mind, and don't get in the way of the actual drama of events unfolding.
I'm going to keep reading! Definitely enjoying this one - Codes247Royal Road★★★★ 3.5This story leaves me wishing for more chapters. The characters actions and behaviors are believable. The pacing doesnt feel too rushed or too slow even though there are some scenes that I wished the author elaborated more on. There is some mystery but most of the story is pretty straight forward. The story is less focused on the fights and more focused on the interactions between characters.
What the story is about: The story has an apocalyptic setting where people form groups/ gangs in order to survive. In the story the main character ends up going against a strong group for someone he cares about. At the same time he spends his time growing his dungeon to be strong enough to repell invaders but not too strong which would make challengers stop entering. There is even a part where he building a business by housing challengers. - impRoyal Road★★★ 3.0It's still early days at 29 chapters, but so far the combination of LitRPG System Apocalypse and Dungeon Core are going together like peanut butter and chocolate.
Seriously, this combo is so obvious I am surprised I've not seen it attempted before. There's even some spicy livestream stuff in the mix a la Dungeon Crawler Carl. The main question is can it keep it up longer term? Most dungeon stories loose steam after 3 floors or so or they transition to something else (and often worse) once the Dungeon has an avatar. I can't tell at this point If this story can keep momentum or not. I hope it can.
The actual story so far involves two, somewhat greasy, pawn shop owners that end up as a dungeon and assistant in a System Apocalypse. They are making a dungeon, trying to build an apocalyptic haven, and also involved in a faction war. So far so good. There is also some tensions between the characters which will hopefully lead to a good emotional arc and core in the story, but could end up frustrating.
As I said, it's early days for this one. So far it has potential and has a fun spin on two very formulaic stories. Let's see where it goes.
---update
About 30 chapters later and I must report that I don't think this is going to go the distance. The story reads like things are just happening and chapters don't move through arcs in a way that feels satisfying. It isn't bad, but it also isn't engaging. I don't feel that it has lived up to its earlier promise and it may have fallen into the trap of not having enough time to work on chapters before they need to release.
