Description

Nine times Paul had died. Nine times he'd been brought back. But the next time... there might be no return.

Death tastes different the ninth time around—bitter with failure and thick with the promise of finality.

Paul Steele is no stranger to death. Each time he enters the portals, he risks everything—his life, his humanity, and the very essence that powers his progression. With every run, he faces more deadly monsters and traps that push him to the edge. But there's no turning back. With the system controlling everything, Paul's survival depends on his ability to adapt, evolve, and fight through unimaginable odds. But each death is a reminder of how close he is to losing it all. As the stakes grow higher, Paul must find a way to survive one last time before the system claims him for good. All while the apocalypse looms on the horizon.

What to expect:

Lucky to have access to this novel's later chapters. I already loved it during the beta read.
The premise is simple enough but has great potential to expand. It's fast-paced while ensuring solid world-building. The setting has already laid out future development paths.
Can't wait for more, especially since it starts as a solo adventure, which is exactly my jam.

At this point, I will read anything this author releases! Haha.
This novel is, in my opinion, better than the last one in several aspects. Since I've read the advance chapters already (up to chapter 20), I can say the magic system of this story feels more present and well-developed. It satisfies my need to see numbers and stats throughout the narrative. Of course, it's perfectly fine for the author to choose different approaches for each novel.
Regarding style, it's different but still excellent. The fight scenes are clearly simplified compared to the previous work but still convey the pressure and epicness of what's to come. It makes you eager for more.
As for characters, this novel takes on a darker tone. Paul and Michael are relatable, they face misery but still shine through. The other characters flicker in and out when necessary and provide great support for the story's progression.
I'm pretty lenient on grammar, and there are no major flaws to criticize.
I left the story for last. It's promising, just as I mentioned in the title. I can already imagine how this world can expand with its maps and progression system. The interactions between characters, factions, and organizations create a dynamic that is both interesting and engaging.
Overall, it's a good take on the apocalyptic niche with great combinations of roguelite mechanics.

I got addicted to Roguelite Survivor games. Ahem. I'm looking at you, Vampire Survivors. So when I saw a novel that wanted to integrate this concept, I just jumped in. At the moment, I'm loving it. The mechanics blend nicely with the story. Whether the author can maintain this engaging path remains to be seen. For now, it's a great concept to explore. The story, as I see it, is well-written. The motivation and conflicts are relatable and strong. It has the foundation of a promising setting. I really look forward to the other maps when our MC ranks up. Oh yeah, the talents, too. If what the author promises to deliver is true, the stats are also something to anticipate in this story. Maybe there's already a plan for it. I think so. I barely noticed any grammatical errors, so I'll give the author a pass on that front. Style score? Hmm. Good overall. Maybe this is an old project that was reinitiated, as it feels a little inconsistent at times. I like the characters, so I'll rate them 4.5/5. Open for adjustment in the future. I think this is a great read, even though it's just a few chapters for now.
