Description
A world destroyed. An axe to grind. And a path to infinite power. Welcome to my reality.
When the cultivators came to Earth, they destroyed our entire civilization in a matter of hours. Armies fell, cities burned, and that was before the moon turned red and filled our world with monsters.
Now, over a decade later, what’s left of humanity slaves under the heels of our Qi-infused masters. The luckiest of us might even become one of them, they say—if we serve the Dynasty well enough and harness the power of Qi.
But I want none of that.
I’m sick of serving and I want nothing to do with their world. Instead, I want them to pay for what they did to mine. Maybe that’s whyshefound me. The fearsome, angry goddess who showed me a different path. Apparently, Qi is not the only route to power.
Now I’ll fight to take back my planet, to grow strong enough to beat the cultivators at their own game. Through blood, sweat, and pain, I will free humanity or die trying.
For that’s the Path of a Berserker.

- 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0An atypical story, the main character is angry, and rightfully so. Cultivators took over Earth, and humans are treated like dirt. The only way to move up in this new world is to become a cultivator as well, due to the sheer difference in power between cultivators and mortals. However, for someone who's hated cultivators his whole life, he could never join their ranks. Good thing Max is a berserker, empowered by a mysterious figure to fight back against cultivators.
Good premise, it is obviously gritty and dark, but such is life. I like the story so far, and it's kept my attention well. I haven't seen many Daopocalypse stories, but from what is displayed here, the genre has potential. Great start! - LuckyloliRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've never left a review before but i figured why not
So thus story is great I love it. Its tiring to read and understand all of the different magic and cultivation and whatnot deal on this site (not that those genres are bad I love them) but this novel is different its just an angry boi with an axe a the dnd style rage (super over simpalfaton but hey) and just read it man just give it till lilt chapter 5 my guy and I Carnegie with 76% cerntly you'll like it - SaiakeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Having read all the released chapters I can confirm this story has everything you need and expect from a story titled Berserker.
I have immensely enjoyed reading it so far and look forward to continue to do so.
Lets see how this story shapes up to be in the end together. Berserker souls unite! 💪🏻 - The Captain of HellsingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okey let me just be frank and say this is quite possible 1 of the best new novel on Royal Road and why I say this is just plain simple its unique and fun
With a cool twist on the average xanxia plot this story is shaping up to be quite the gem or should I say an ember that has balzed into an inferno - TunzaMuffinsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There's a lot I could say that wouldnt sway anyone opinion on if they should or should not start reading Path of the Berserker. What I'm hoping sways your opinion is the quality of the story itself. Its got flaws and so do the characters. If you want a story that is perpetually against the MC this is it. Max(Chun) has to go from zero to hero only to realize he's a small fish that punches above his weight class repeatedly but despite the odds being against him, Max stands back up.
Rick Scott is not afraid to use shock and awe liberally whether that be an unexpected way to victory or an unexpected reunion with family.
As far as the stories on Royalroad that I can say I love and would be proud to mount on my wall this is definitely my go-to example.
Chapters are uploaded regularly and the chapters are easy reading. For the most part every chapter has been substance very little unnecessary fat - dshort7by7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Read the first book on Kindle. It was interesting enough to get me wanting more right now!!
The writing is good with great characters. Looking forward to where he takes the fight against the big bads with the developing love interest.
I just wish there were more chapters online. - SuperPowerRonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story of Max and him finding his rage. From the first four chapters, prologue and up to chapter three, it sets us nicely. We have an apoplectic Earth, with Cultivators taken over. It has the whole package, racism, classism, and young-master-ism. Everything a true cultivator story needs.
Good thing our protagonist isn't going to be a cultivator. With the help of a mysterious benefactor, maybe he too can rise to the top.
The grammar is excellent, I did not see any major errors. They may be some advanced English mistakes, but nothing to throw you out of the story.
The story is unique to me, and it is told very well. There are some info dumps, but they are hidden and told in interesting ways.
Character wise, in the chapters posted already, the main guy is fleshed out somewhat. He seems flat in some areas. But he's not completely cardboard. The others around him also seem on their way to being real too. Only time can tell if they'll get better.
For a style, I can't say I haven't seen it before, but it fits what the author is going for.
Overall, a wonderful addition to Royal Road. It'll go far with more chapters and people showing it love. - xcaresRoyal Road★★★ 3.0World-building is pretty adequate. As long as you have read some xianxia cultivation novels that is. Not for the uninitiated.
Space Superchinamen cultivator empire has wiped out any prior local social structure and identity.
Everyone has a Chinese name now even if they remember their old one.
The new common sense just happens to be stereotypically confucianist. The normal local Chinese just happened to be seeded by the space Superchinamen in the past for some reason.
The cultivation system is the stereotypical one that leads to core formation, nascent soul and so on. The MC and his ilk are the anomaly
The MC cultivates feelings. Both his own and others. For example the pain of been beaten is transformed into the feeling of rage. That feeling is then used as replacement to qi. He circulates the feeling to forge his body for example.
I don't understand how it works but it's supposedly bypassing qi as a mechanism to directly cultivate the DAO. In this case the DAO of the feeling of rage.
The techniques used have to do with triggering emotional responses. All of them are very very overtly edgy. For example the MC will get better results at building up rage by acting cool and indifferent during taking a beating. He can trigger fear to those beating him up and harness that to cultivate as well.
There's also a huge magical limitation on the MC. He can't be tactical. He can't avoid a fight. He can only advance and overcome the fear of death. Even when the adversary can kill him with an errant fart. It's very plot-armor-ish overall.
This is the first time I've read about a system of cultivating feelings and nothing else...and I can see it working in terms of narrative. A cycle of humiliation and people around the MC getting hurt will lead to cultivation increasing and the sweet butchery of the offending cultivator superchinaman. Rince and repeat.
The MC is batman who didn't witness the deaths of his family only because they didn't matter. The MC is the guy everyone was beati - ShadowgemRoyal Road★★★ 2.5I honestly do not know why this has so many high ratings .. the novel itself is xianxia where everyone underestimates MC then gets face-slapped shortly thereafter. I would rate it higher if not for how brain dead the characters are.
The Berserker path is in short demonic cultivation. The MC hates Qi cultivation because "using lifeforce of universe for selfish purpose" disgusts him but somehow using other people's pain and fear is "cool". Also, i'm surprised by the fact the cultivators do not seem to realize the "much hated" demonic cultivation.
MC and the young master are both dumb. If MC didn't care about anyone / doesn't live inside the city i would agree with open conflict. But he does care about yu lin and his block so what purpose does openly challenging the "young master" of sect controlling the entire city does? Nothing. He could secretly kill him but no .. decides to openly challenge him.
If it was a real curel world like author described .. MC would have died right there. I mean they literally slaughtered entire human civilization. Not killing the MC and allowing him to live is a bigger stain. The MC then decides to show off his new found strength by defeating a goon in second confrontation and a trained foundation realm killer in third. The young master instead of being suspicious of how a mortal can do that decides to hide this fact. I mean really, is he that idk what the right would be ... stupid seems too kind.
There is so much the "young master" can do for revenge or just to hurt the MC. Brand him an evil cultivator and purge the entire block where he lives? Issue a death warrant? Cripple him to teach a lesson? Cut off tounge? but no ... nothing. Decides to gives MC a month for public "apology". This is something that i would expect in real world where "law" is still a thing. But in a brutal, cruel, cultivation world - what a joke.
Then MC with his amazing plot armor decides he can fake Qi cultivation and participates in the tournament. Seriously? When - SteeleoneRoyal Road★★ 1.5The story starts out well enough. Interesting take on the traditional xianxia cultivation story and mixes in some elements of post-apocalypse novels to boot.
The problems really start towards the end of Book 1. Things get rushed, plot lines stop making sense and charatcers get shoe horned in all over the place. Towards the end of Book 1 and start of Book 2, I began questioning if the author wasn't using AI to help write the story because interactions barely made sense anymore and the overall narative structure took a big nose dive.
Not a terrible read but don't let the start of the novel gets your hopes up too much.
