Description
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps.
An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous.
Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option.
This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either.
Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!

- funkyguy09Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this story, im so glad i just randomly clicked this when i saw it on the latest updates category.
The writing flows together in what seems like a professional way, it's super easy to read and follow along with.
I've only noticed one grammar mistake and it was just like "The" but "Thae" so obviously just a misstype. Everything else is completely fine and i have noticed no other grammatical errors.
The plot seems to have direction and the world building is superb, all the backstory is spaced out evenly and theres not one info dump thrown at you, it feels like reading a proper professionaly done story where the writer has forked out thousands on professional editing and such. It could definitely get picked up by a publisher if this quality continues.
The best thing is, is that this guy is uploading a crap-ton! High quality - High quantity!!! How does he do it, the only reason i can think of is he (or she or whatever pronoun they prefer) is not only just incredibly talented when it comes to writing, but they also never sleep.
The only gripe which isn't really a gripe and not really fair of me to ask for seeing as how the chapters are uploaded regularly, is that i wish the chapters were longer, i don't know how long the average chapter is but it's not very long. However i do have to state that this is kind of sorted by the amount of chapters uploaded, maybe it'd be better if instead of uploading multiple chapters on the same day you could perhaps merge chapters in to one longer chapter? Well that's certainly personal preference and definitiely not a reason to not read this story!
It can ultimately be stated that as i was searching through a ton of crap as-per usual on this website i came across an amazing jewel which is already thoroughly polished.
Don't hesitate to read it! - KaneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Dude I absolutely LOVED Paladin!! I want to visit/live in Camelot, it’s such a cool story I love it. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Keep writing because I want to see what happens next!
- jmc5003Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fantastic story, well written, interesting characters and story line. It does have a fairly satisfying conclusion but I would absolutely love to see the author continue with another book.
The MC is very relatable. I don't want to say anything that could be a spoiler. I binged this book and would have binged 5 more by this author.
If you pass this by, you're cheating yourself, IMO. - CymRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best story ever on RRL! The story on itself is really interesting, a realistic post apocalypse world, with aliens and mechas. Honestly the story alone could make it to the top 10 of RRL easily. But what makes it amazing is the story teller.
This story characters have a very real depth, their thoughts and emotions are so realistic that you can easily identify yourself with them, and reading the MC adventures and hardship will make you live them with him.
I'm honestly not good enough at english to tell you how amazing this story is. Try it yourself :-) - Vowron PrimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story grabbed me by the horns(yes I claim to have horns), and threw me around until the last chapter, and I absolutely adored every minute of it!
There is a real tension in the MC's journey that had me eagerly consuming every chapter until the fateful moment(I'm being ambiguous to avoid spoilers), that I find lacking in so many other stories.
This story was very influential in the formation of my own story, so thank you author, for being an inspiration. I do hope you will come back one day :-) - BlapzappRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I genuinely am having a hard time finding any genuine flaws in this story. It was extremely down to earth in the sense of that characters felt do damn human! The character development in this story is outrageously phenomenal. I'm not a huge fan of hoping characters but when the author did, it was for an explicit reason and made each character so lifelike.
The MC, is smart and easy to imagine as an actual genuine person. He has ruts, he has fits, he has pains and most enjoyable, were his moments of personal victory. Whether they were in battle or in his basement, or mind, they were amazing and so very absolutely Human. The book also ends off on a kind of cliff hanger that you can imagine your own resolution to the apocalypse fittingly with just enough to possibly give birth to a second book.
This author has a real legitimate talent that I wish he would get this published so I can buy the book and he could write more. However he hasn't been active in any shape way for form for 6 years to date according to his profile so here we wait and hope with baited breath. - craxuanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Spoiler Warning: Don't even bother reading this review if you're afraid of spoilers!
Let's start off with the criticism right away: everything went a little too well, and the people are a little too kind. Now, I'm not saying that you should do the Walking Dead, because literally everyone in that story is excessively and unnecessarily pessimistic to the point it feels like you're watching a planet of mental patients trying to survive the apocalypse. Rather, I should say that the people shared too many common sentiments like 'we shouldn't give up on human lives', 'we abhor slavery and control', 'we have no wish for power or dominance', 'put trust before caution' etc. Barring Jane and the Sterling Outpost literally no one has screwed over/backstabbed the Sam yet, and the offenses are incredibly minor.
Now for the good. The grammar and writing are fantastic. There is not a shred of doubt that you're bred a Westerner, because you are clearly quite attuned with your culture from a foreigner's point of view at least. The dynamic between the characters are also incredibly interesting, but the emotions are the real cake here: Sam experiencing a panic attack and let people die while he did nothing, Adelaide implied to be afraid of letting Sam go for fear that he would die and she would be left all alone, the surprising amount of understanding showed by John (I... think it was John?) when Sam revealed the mistakes he made... it was pretty cool.
Speaking of surprises, the twists in this story caught me off guard more times than I'd expected. For example, I never thought that Adelaide was an alien because it just seems so natural to think her as a sentient AI. The fact that Camille alive was another shocking revelation, since it means WAR BETWEEN ADEL AND CA - wait the recent chapters kinda shot that down. There's still Rebecca though. My point is that the surprise twists in this story are really good. You played the 'it's obvious in hindsight' card really, really well, so I'm c - Sir ProperRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5You have done excellent job with pacing, drama, emotion, character development, and action. Really well balanced story. You have done a good job of grounding the story in realism while adding a healthy dose of science fantasy, and even more amazing is your avoiding getting bogged down flat exposition. Keep up the good work.
- isominRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Great read with endearing and charming characters and so far decent story progression. It is still early days however.
You will more than likely love it, so just read it.
Character limit ftw: qpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqpqoqpqpqpqpqoqpqpqpqpqoq - tomcatfeverRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The first part is very good. However, once more characters are introduced, the plot and stakes get lost in "slice of life" exposition and "luckily I have engineered a solution" moments
Also, the first person point of view is sometimes journalistic and sometimes almost as if the MC is a 3rd person narrator.
The combat description is very good and action-oriented. The world building is good, esp the alien technology stuff. On the balance, I'm giving a three for style.
The characters and their interactions are humorous at times. But, honest, a significant amount of dialogue is either painful to read or a slog to read.
The grammar is great considering the pace of releases. 5 stars.
In summary, the author starts off great and then begins breaking Vonnegut's sixth rule of writing. Captian Marty Stu ... oops ... Paladin Captian Sam and his awesome robot suit is boring military science fiction after 500 or so pages.
But, read part one for sure.
